Anyone here own an Octavia involved in this recall?

Having been out of the country for the past 2 weeks I'm catching up with the Briskoda news. I

I have already changed the vaccum pipe on my octavia estate.

I had to buy the part. now I want my money back.

Following two visits to Horners in Manchester, I am now recalled and fixed. One visit to check and see I my 'parts' were affected and having found they were, another visit 3 days later to have new parts fitted (parts were not available on the day of the first visit).

For info my car was registered September '99 so I guess manufactured mid '99

Now to the thread about brake judder.............there's always something:(

I've seen a lot of these split & splitting inside & outside of the affected chassis range. If the car is still covered by warranty I change the pipe when it's splitting wheteher it's in the range or not. If it's not covered I advise the customer about it & 9 times out of 10 they have it done. Only in 1 case however out of God knows how many have I actually known the pipe to split right open & lose vaccum. This was on an AGR TDi & only after a timing belt had been replaced by a Bojjit & Scarper lot, whom I think had pulled the engine about quite a bit to try & remove the infamous front mounting.

The problem has just been spotted on William's car and fixed and the same thing happened to a friend of mine when on holiday in Ireland last year. From this I would deduce that the recall hasn't been as effective or foolproof as it should have been.

Your experience and comments mirror mine of nearly a year ago!!! Why am I not surprised?

Good job that Briskoda exists to share this information...

The problem was spotted when my car was in the dealer because of a problem with its throttle body. What is worrying is that the car was serviced just 4 months ago and past its MOT with out this being noticed.

As far as safety recalls are concerned back in 1998 I did recieve a recall from Skoda for my Felicia due to a problem with wiring in the drivers airbag, so sometimes their system works.

Hi all, just joined.

I found out about the brake problem at about 80mph hurtling towards a roundabout!! This was at around 8500 miles sometime in about June last year. Got the car new on March 1st last year and this is the first I even knew about a recall for this. Explains to me now how the garage found the problem so quickly!!

shouldnt have affected your car dave...it was a manufacturing fault during 1999 so you may just have been unlucky

Yes my TDI was. Replaced the brake vaccuum hose from engine to saver. Seemed to be better after replacement. Apparently they were prone to cracking from engine heat

I had a problem with my new SDi Estate reg Oct 03 the brake pedal was going hard and loosing servo assistance so I took it in and they found that a vaccuum pipe had rubbed through at the back of the engine when contacting with the plastic engine cover. I don't think this is part of the recall (can't be as the car is too new) but the speed that they fixed it at seemed to suggest that they knew what to look for. I think they just cut the pipe back to take away some of the slack and refitted it. No probs since.

:) Has anybody any photos of what to look out for as I have an Octavia 110bhp aug 2000 tdi, is the pipe at the back of the top sound deadning cover ? as far as I know the vacume is derived off the alternator so is there a pipe running upto the top ? :(
