I have read somewhere on here that there is a choice of tyre when ordering a new Octy II Vrs. Is this true? As a lot of people are suggesting staying well a way from Dunlops and others have mentioned that they had Conti's as OEM? Can someone clear thais up for me? Thanks

Nope, no choice. You get whats in the factory at the time, and that depends on what prices skoda can get them for.

I don't think you can. It would be a first for any manufacturer, if you could.

IIRC you are likely to get either;

Continental Sport Contact 3

Michelin Pilot Primacy or Exalto 2

Dunlop Sport MAAX

Bridgestone RE???

The only way to get exactly what you want would be to buy a set of them and then sell the OEM ones on ebay (or something) or somehow do a deal with your dealer.

I've seen Michellin Pilot Premacys, Conitinental Sport Contacts, Dunlop Sports and Bridgestone Potenzas on new vRSs. Like Manny says, it depends whats in stock at the time, and the car buyer doesn't get a choice I'm afraid.

They seem ok to me at the mo, mind you I've not really had much of a chance to push it yet, plus it is only 100 miles old.

I've got the Dunlops on my car too (perhaps that's why you're quicker on the roundabouts Tom :P) and I don't think they're too bad, certainly had worse fitted on to a car and I'd say the Bridgestone Touranza's (If thats what they're fitting to vRS') are worse, they couldn't cope with the power of my previous 90bhp diesel MKI Octy .

Turanzas are dreadful, but these are fitted to some Fabias, not the Octy vRS - they come with Potenzas which are miles better.

I am looking at a UK Mark II 07 reg 2lt Diesel vRS and noticed the following. Wheels on car are 225/45/R17s and Bridgestones with 3- 5 mm of thread left on them. The spare is a 205/55 R16 with Continentals unused.

Do Skoda (or any car manufacturer) supply different sized spares to the standard fit? (apart from *spit* spacesaver tyres)

Second ...would the spare have a different brand tyre to the main tyres?

Its a 07 April reg car ....orginal post edited. Would it be likely that a second set of tyres would be nearly worn after just 19K Miles?

EDIT: Just did a tyre size check at Tire size calculator and it shows that the spare and fitted tyres are nearly the same (0.4% differance)

This is perfectly normal; don't worry you are not being conned.

All Octy Mk II get a 205/55 16 steel spare as the well in the boot is not deep enough for anything wider, even though Sport, vRS and L&K have 17" or 18" wheels fitted. The brochure refers to 'space saver' but this means 205/55 16 and not some wafer thin thing!

As to brand. My vRS has a Bridgestone ER300 as the spare (205/55 16) but came with 225/40 18 Continentals from the Factory.

I have a vRS wagon on order. Here in Oz they come with 18" road wheels (mag) and a 16" spare (steel wheel, same rolling diameter), the two that I looked at also had different brand/model tyres for the spare.

I see them as a slightly less irritating form of space saver (they can carry a full load and don't have a speed restriction, but would definitely have an adverse affect on handling).

Same thing happened to me. I tok delivery of my L&K estate with Michelins and a steel wheel wheel with a Bridgestone tyre.

To me too, Dunlops 17' and Bridgestone with steel rim 16'

Mine's a '56' plate, built Jan '07. 2.0 TDI with 16" rims, with a full size spare, the same as the other 4.

Seriously unimpressed with these Michelin energy savers I've got on the front now
