Insurance and Dragon Tuning Box

Featured Replies

Hey Guy's

OK I have aquired a Dragon Tuning box and before I fit it to the beast I have contacted my insurers to inform them and they have requested a engineers report to ensure it's been fitted correctly etc. the issue is I'm fitting it myself and I'm guessing a garage won't be willing to sign and stamp this form without doing anything. Has anybody else come across anything like this?

The insurers are quinn direct and have only recently added mods to the quote part of the website.

Appreciate any help/advice.

Cheers

Not heard of anything like that except for alarms. But then, I've not heard of Quinn Direct either.

:+1:

I'd look elsewhere for the amount a technician's report will likely set you back...

They are shipping a form out to me for the garage to sign surely this can't be a fully fledged tech report?

Edit: Just found the form on the website seems it is a full report

Engineers Report Form

If your vehicle has been modified from the manufacturers specifications and you wish to get a motor quote please complete this form.

I've got one in my car, insurance never asked for anything like that. Think they might just be over cautious?

i will write you a technitians report for £10,

insurance companys are too anal, look elsewhere

Neither had I, out of interest what would be the implications of sacking them off and switching insurers to a mod friendly bunch. I only have 2 months left this year guessing it's not going to be worth it and just sit on my new toy till then.

Quinn are actually meant to be one of the best for modified cars and in my experience they tend not to be bothered as long as the modifications remain cosmetic only and not performance oriented. Since yours is performance oriented it's not surprising they want a little more from you.

Count yourself lucky for finding an insurer that just won't refuse outright to give you a policy, or load your premium by £500+ because of your lil' box of fun.

What they are looking for is confirmation that some muppet hasn't fitted something like a jet engine to their car.

When I insured my quite extensively modified Fabia with Adrian Flux I had to detail what, when, how much and who did it and I was quite happy to do it after all they are just trying to establish what they are insuring.

It's quite understandable really and actaully a good practice that will protect you as much as them

That's still a possibility, they submit the report to the underwriters who will come back with a figure or refuse to cover it.

I never got asked anything like that when i added mine last year. I'm with Chris Knott / Highway. I fitted it myself anyhow so wouldn't have had anyone to fill out the form etc anyway!!!! Added approx £20 to my premium with about 9 or so months left on it.

Cheers

Dave.

I've just got a quote from swinton specialist on the se with 9 points declared and all my mods too, they blew everyone else away by a mile, they knew what i was talking about mod wise, and don't charge the earth, they didn't even load the quote for half the mods:thumbup:

You got a contact number for them mate???? I've just received my renewaly this week..... Not too bad has gone up by about £40 which i was expecting....... Am still gonna try a couple of others though to see if i can get it down a little.

I just called swinton, as I will be changing jobs soon, and will need a different insurance policy....

and oilburninnut is right, they have their own modified car people, who know what they're talking about, and I got a quote for the fiat (remap declared) of £410 fully comp , protected no claims ect

which wasn't a bad quote....
