What can be done with a 1.2 Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

You most likely laugh but what can honestly be done with the engine of a 1.2 HTP 55BHP Fabia.

Is there anyway to say bring the engine up to 100BHP ??

I have heard of Small gains from Induction kits and exhausts and a remap of the ECU would be minimal.

I have also heard of low pressure turbos and dump valves.

I love this car and have realised a Vrs is a long way of insurance wise so I would like to make the car a little bit more nippy.

Anyone have idea's, I have asked erik in aat but he has a few minor suggestions but tbh it would be a great project to see what could be done to the engine.

100bhp ?? Throttle Bodies maybe ? but you are looking at serious dosh. Isn't the 1.2 engine a 3 cylinder ?

Plus by the time you have declared all the mods , the insurance will be as much if not more than a 100bhp tdi furby

Looking at it from a power to weight perspective, you could up the bhp/tonne by lightening the car, ie replacing spare wheel with tyre weld and a pump, light-weight alloys, etc, etc. This will probably be cheaper than modding the engine, but will depend how far you want to go and how much luxury you need :)

agggggggggh, it is either this or for a few hundred quid get the 1.4 16 V 101BHP

Now what could be done with that baby...

I am not a boy racer BTW I just like having a little bit more oomph.

PD100 diesel engine is much more tunable for less money as it is a strong lump with a turbo that can be easily and safely mapped to 140bhp by Jabba for around 365 quid (and that's without the Briskoda discount). :D Have a look on Erik's site as he details what can be done with the 1.4-16v but I suspect it isn't cheap for similar gains :)

The price of petrol and diesel may sway it as it is costing a fortune now to run any car.

What kind of gains would you get from a 1.4 TDi ??

Seriously, don't waste your money modifying it, it will be cheaper to just get something more powerful. Getting more from naturally aspirated engines needs a lot of money and effort and all the gains will be at the top end anyway.

If you must keep your current car a straight engine swap would probably be the best option, but then insurance might be a problem as you'd have 55bhp brakes, suspension etc etc, not to mention the warantee!

Yeah I know, I have to keep the engine below 1.6 for insurance to be decent.

I wish insurance was'nt an issue and a nice vrs would do the job

Check out here. 1.4TDi block is all aluminium so is nice and light compared to the 100bhp and 130bhp PD engines.

Apparently fuel economy can improve after a remap too, although it depends on driving style ;)

Interesting I assume the top car there with 75BHP is the 1.4 TDI, so you could get say up to 106.

So if a decent exhaust, induction kit etc was put there aswell it could give it a little more.

mmmmm

What for example 1000 quid could you do to an engine like that and expected gains ??

Not sure about costs, but there is also the "Smog-enator" on the horizon which is a tuning box which gives an extra 10+bhp on top of the remap (well according to the info Ade has found out). Would imagine exhaust and filter would buy small gains - maybe 10bhp tops, but I don't know how restrictive the OEM exhaust is on it :) Maybe give Jabba a ring and let us all know how you get on :D

For

It does sound as if you've ruled the vrs out because of insurance.

But it is "only" group 9A insurance, and I gather a heavily modded 1.2 or 1.4 petrol engine would cost more in insurance than a standard 1.9PD.

If you have enough cash up front to change to a vrs, and insurance is the only stopping point, maybe it's worth taking a look. There's a long thread with insurance costs for a fab vrs. Bearing in mind I'm 24, 3 points, 0 NCB, i still had the car insured fully comp for about

Whats the VRS Octy and Furby like on juice I do a lot of driving but keep it easy for the sake of economical fuel consumption.

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9241 this should help you but I have seen on many a run 55mpg no problems :D

If you drive economically, i.e. 70-75mph on the m'way, I'd say fabia gives you 55mpg (diesel). Not too sure on octy, but will be lower - probably about 35-40mpg.

Also, octy has group insurance 17 ('cos of the nice 1.8T petrol)

Does make the fabia relatively cheap in comparison ;)

Damn you Chavyboy :D

Lads I may have a look at the furby vrs now as it seems a lesser hassle option.

If I am to do it, I will sell my own privately as trade in's on 1.2 's would'nt be to good.

I wonder if there is many second hand Furby Vrs's, i shall look in the auto trader :-)

what is the exact cc of the furby vrs ??
