Recomend some plastic treatment?

Featured Replies

I spent a few hours giving my car a good clean. I used the products that I bought a week ago and I'm very impressed with how it turned out. I didn't have a great deal of time to use them, as I had to go to work that night (it chucked it down with rain and the car is dirty again now).

I need to find something to do the external black trim. I used to use Back to Black on my older cars, but wanted to know if there was anything else that I could use, that would last a bit longer.

I used Autoglym shampoo and Collonite 95 wax, with some Megs Wheel brightener (really need to remove the wheels). I tried a out little bit with a clay bar, but not sure I'm doing it right :D

Thanks

Neil

PS I tried to upload a photo, but the size is too big and if I reduce the size, the picture quality looks naff :thumbdwn:

ah ha I used the add link option. As you can see, the black trim has some old polish marks on it from the previous owner

Back to black gives a nice shine but it's not long lasting (top tip: the spray version is excellent for speeding up seat belts!).

I would recommend Klasse AIO to remove existing polishing marks. Peanut butter (or peanut oil if you can get it) is also excellent at restoring trim. My personal favourite is Poorboys Trim Restorer and I also love Chemical Guys New Look Trim Gel as a finish.

heat up the trim first so that it takes the product better then it should last longer

The best i have found is Klearcote rubber and vinyl dressing.... available from www.detailedobsession.co.uk

Takes away the polish marks easy peasy and leaves a nice gloss finish that leaves a paintwork like wax finish (i.e water runs off)

This stuff is great, you can also use it on your tires aswell and i even got carried away and did my dash etc with it.

A must own product

I've used and would recommend Meg's #39 Heavy-Duty Vinyl Cleaner. Don't know where you're based, but if you're near Manchester and fancy a demo

After wiping off any excess, I'd leave that overnight to dry properly before putting some Meg's Trim Detailer over the top.

i use a little boiled linseed oil on exterior plastic trim

just make sure you rub it in realy well and spread it thin

its also good for resurecting sun faded plastic as well ive used it on an old suzuki jeep whos trim had turned almost white and it brought it up a nice shiny gloss black

WARNING the cloths used to aply linseed oil have been known to self combust so dispose of by burning

I use Autoglym Bumper Care for great results. I also use it on all door seals and boot/bonet seals where it sheds water brilliantly and preserves. For my Tyres I spray them with Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care then use a paintbrush to work it in. Don't wipe it off but leave to dry. Great!..No I too don't work for Autoglym but like their products.
