Orange Guitar Amps

Featured Replies

Now that my Fender Twin has finally bit the dust I'm considering switching over to an Orange amps.

Any of the Briskoda 'band' had any experience of these they could share with me?

The best Amp I've ever used was an orange. Get yourself a vintage one and you cant go wrong. Nothing but gorgeous tones.

Only downside is the old (late seventies) combos are VERY VERY heavy for their size. Think they're lined with bricks or something!

Looking at the AD140 TC and a 4x12 cab.

Weight isn't an issue as I'm used to heavy gear as a bass player.

The 140 is supposed to be a great amp. (guatarist really liked it anyway)

Not so sure how it'll sound if you're going to run a bass through it though (or am I just being dumb)

Not using for playing bass as I have my Trace Elliot and Hughes & Kettner set up for this.

Just for my guitar playing.

Ah! That makes more sense :D

Just bought a Marshall JCM800 from Ebay and currently selling a very rare IMPACT 60w all-valve, point to point amp head at the moment. Used to run a couple of Marshall Bluesbreakers which was one LOUD set up lol! Orange's are great amps but if you want value for money (you are a Skoda owner after all!) then try:

www.matamp.co.uk

These are very similar to Orange and were once the same company. You get a VERY high quality amp here that would cost a lot more if Orange had made it.

Just my 2p's worth,

Cheers

Need something new with good manufacturer cover as have had problems in the past (especially with Marsshall).

Just seen a nice matchless head.

Matchless, very nice although I don't think there are many distibutors/ manufactures cover over here for those yet. I'm a Marshall man I must admit, tried a few others but always came back, great amps. Sorry to hear you've had problems with them in the past. Another way to go is Matamp will build your amp to your own spec, not a salesman for them just heard they are a very good company to deal with.

Try also : www.torresamps.co.uk

They do a 'bespoke' amp building service,

Cheers

Off to Yorkshire next week to visit Matamp.

Like the look of the GTO but need two channels (hence the Orange AD140TC) but Jeff said if I go in for a chat they should be able to suggest something.

What colour do I go for though????

Snakeskin, has to be!!! lol

Cheers

Quite like the red leather.

Just got my wage slip and discovered my bonus has doubled my salary for this month so can spend a bit more now.

Very nice, I know a guy up here who has the purple colour leather finish and it looks the part too. He also has a 2x12 cabinet which has been made to look like a 'mini' angled-front 4x12 cab, very cool.

Hope you have a good day out there, sounds like a good day if truth be told, messing around with some top class amps!

Cheers

Just a though..

You could just go for the full MIDI patched rack mount set up. You'll never look back (well I haven't anyway). It can work out a bit more expensive but at least you can pick your own pre-amp/power amp/effects combination rather than relying on just one manufacturer.

Not got a problem with midi, our keyboardist uses it but using it for my needs would just over complicate setting up.

As I play bass and some guitar bits I have enough gear to worry about already and don't think I would gain any advantage.

Advantage with Matamp is that can help me sort my sound.

Have only heard good things about Orange amps. Not used one myself. Not good enough to warrant the outlay!

Have you considered Vox? Also from what I have read/heard, they are very good amps. ;)
