Hi All,

About 6 months ago a bought a Fabia Sport 1.4 (75BHP) great little car but its crap on low end torque, theres just no pulling power when trying to get outta junctions.

I have resently started doing longer jorneys up and down the county and the little car is just not big enough for me any more.

SO! im thinking of getting a Octy 2.0 TDI Elegance, I cant get insurance on any VRs model weather it be a fabia Vrs or Otcy Vrs so biggest and most powerful is the Octy 2.0 TDI (140).

Is the Elegance a good choice? anything I should watch out for when buying a octy? Is there a better model that would suit me? (I want alloys) I dont wanna fall into the same place as I did with my Fabia been very sluggish, looks great but performance just isnt there.

Im also thinking of having it remapped is this worth doing with the 2.0TDI? It would put the BHP up to around the same as the VRs.

Hi,

The 2.0 tdi elegance is a very good choice. I recommend getting one with the optional Pegasus alloys which comes with sports suspension. Is it a new or a used one you are looking at? I am on my second octy 2.0 tdi estate, fist one was an elegance and the new one is an L&K. The first one was great but had a few rattles and squeaks but overall a top motor. I would not even consider remapping as it will be plenty swift enough compared with your 1.4 fabia.

Also your insurance premium would probably go up to more than a VRs's , and your warranty would probably be null and void.

I was wondering about the Sports suspension how do I know if it has got this? as most of the elegances have the same alloys which look like the Pegasus ones?

I am also looking at a used one, I am only 18 so dont have that much saved up lol.

I really like the Red Octy's they seem to stick out from the rest... I told my local dealer to give me a shout in 5 month but I am so tempted to go this weekend and buy one!

the Pegasus alloys are std with the sports suspension which was £400 on the elegance and £600 on the ambiente, but obviously can be brought seperately. The std elegance alloys are the vega.

Another way of telling the sportss uspension is that the car sits 15mm lower, so the car will look like it's sitting lower. The normal suspension can look a little high.

Also you could just ask.

A remap will give you around 170-180bhp, you don't need it, but a friend has it and it pulls a lot better.

I'll line up all the octys on the courtyard on saturday then lol.

I would really like the lower sus, i think I will skip the remapp for now untill I am older and insurance will allow me modiforcations.

What about the "Sport" versions are they any good?

The sport as a trim level isn't available any more, you have to buy an ambient/elegance and spec it up with the sport pack, rear spoiler and body kit. Of course there are a few available second hand.

I'd recommend driving the 1.9TDI - if you are stepping up from a 75bhp 1.4 then you may find the 1.9TDI more than adequate - and will remap to 140bhp is should you desire when you get bored of the performance.

The PD140 is a great engine as standard, and more refined than the 1.9, again, I'd recommend getting bored of the performance before remapping.

The Elegance is a nice spec for sure, but tbh the Ambiente has all the stuff you need, and if you spec that up with the sporty bits you'll have a very nice car indeed.

I have found a really nice red sport one in Nottingham but is a DSG which I ant too keen on if it breaks alot of £££ to fix lol.

Ive booked a test drive for saturday for a 2.0TDI Elegance and see what its like.

Btw whats the sound system like in these cars? Do they have rear speakers in the Sport and Elegance?

Yes! In a word.

I've had mine nearly 4 weeks, done 2.5k in that time.

Absolutely loving it, ok, it's not as fast as a VRS,

but it's certainly a massive step up from my Octavia MK1 90bhp TDI.

I had back to back test drives in a MK1 130 TDI then a MK2 140TDI

I didn't look at another MK1 after!

I test drove a 2.0 TDI DSG today, enjoyed it very much but not sure on the DSG gearbox in terms of its runnings. Are the DSG known to have problems? break easy?

I placed a deposit on the car just incase anyone sees it lol.

I have a petrol one and its nice. according to vrstu who has sat in it the trim is basically at vrs spec inside, basically its a vrs without a turbo (and 50bhp less too). there also isnt to many about (if you want something that isnt common as muck).

Got it for £9,995, Full tank of fuel, mats and 12 month road tax.

Hey all, got my car! Loving it to bits its great.

Though I made a mistake! I thought it was a 2.0 TDI but infact its a 1.9TDI! Found out when I went to pick it up and was stuck on what to do for around 10 minutes lol. Went for another test drive and thought well its certainly got the power and the room I needed so bought it lol.

Thats elegance spec. The wheels give it away.

You need a new skoda badge for the front passenger side wheel.

The badge fell off on the way home from work, dealer gonna give me one when i pop in some day.

I got my elegance estate tinted by Fadenshade of Sheffield. Rear doors, estate windows and rear window for £200. Not the cheapest but has lifetime warranty and uses top quality moonraker film.

I got my subaru done 4years ago by the same guy and the film is still top notch.

You can chose the colour & tint from a wide range.

I will have to take a run to sheff and see what they can do for me.
