The Fabia Sedan is the Forgotten member of the Fabia range and compared to the Hatchback and Estate Variants it is seldom seen on roads.

Info:

Small Sedan's, or any 3 compartment Limousine are not popular in Great Britain unless they are quite hefty, such as the Volkswagen Passat and Vectra Saloon. The Fabia "Notchback" as Skoda Call it is therefore supplied to Britain with restrictions on Trim, Colours, Accesories and Engines. It wont hold it's value very well either. On the up side, this Fabia has incredible boot space for it's size. It has a bootspace larger than the Estate version and many Mid-Size cars Like the Outgoing Astra and Fords Focus.

Avaliable Trims:

Only two trims are avaliable on UK Saloons. They are Classic, which has the same specification as the Hatchback Classic (See First Post on Fabia), but a special Edition called the Classic + Which appears nowhere else in the Fabia range, add's Electric Windows and Remote locking, basically taking it to Comfort Specification, but keeping the Seating material and interior trim of the Classic (unfortuanatley).

Colours: Sadly you won't be seeing any Lemon Yellow Saloons on our roads, and there is a limited range of colours apparantly, but Lemon Yellow is definatley a No. Admirable Blue is not avaliable either as it was only avaliable 46 weeks after Fabia Production. The Saloon was not produced until 2001 , so this colour is not avaliable on even used models.

Engines: Only 3 Variants are avaliable and only 1 is capable of any real speed. They are the 1.9 SDI 64hp, the most economical Fabia engine avaliable (And the Slowest), the 1.4 75hp only avaliable with an automatic transmission and a 1.4 100hp, the only engine to offer any reasonable performance. 1.9 SDI is Painfully slow from 0-60 being nearly 19 seconds. It also only Produces 92 lbs/ft of torq, 1 lbs/ft less than both 1.4's. The Automatic Fabia is little better, with Skoda's Claimed time of 17.3's, but this has been beaten with Factory Standard models (Cough), it has a triple figure top speed, unlike the SDI of 103mph. It's worth noting that the 75hp Engine is actually more elastic and Powerful than the 100hp, Producing it's torq lower down in the Revs, but it's lack of 25hp means it looses out on the 100hp's top end whack. Talking of top end whack, the Fastest Saloon is the Manual 100hp 1.4, offering a much more resonable 0-60 in 11.6's and a Top speed of 115mph.

Fuel Economy, Emissions and Tax:

Despite being the Slowest the SDI Shines with a Fantastic Urban MPG of 44.1 mpg and a Extra Urban of 68.9, Combined is 57.6, Truly Fantastic. Producing only 138 g/km of C02, This Fabia is in Tax band A and in Insurance group 3.

The Fun of the 1.4 100hp will cost you a little more though. Urban MPG is 31.4 and Extra Urban is 52.3, A combined of 42.2. It produces 168 g/km, putting it in tax band B and insurance group 5.

The 1.4 75hp Auto, For it's power output and performance is the Worst Fabia avaliable across the whole range for Economy and emmisions, with Urban Consumption at 27.2 and extra urban of 47.1, a combined of 37.2. Sadly Bad fuel economy isnt the only problem, Insurance is also Group 5, despite the fact that it can be outrun buy a man on foot, Emissions are also bad, at 182 g/km, knocking it back another band, into C. Certainly not worth it for Automatic Gear changes. The 2.0 would actually be found to be marginally more economical, whilst delivering Much better performance.

Ride and Handling:

It's much different to the hatchback, namley being more wallowy and soft, but giving more comfort than the Normal Fabia. It doesent like to be pushed round corners and has a nasty habit of oversteer that is hard to correct, especially with the Heavy 1.4 75hp and 1.9 SDI Piling on the Nose weight. It's a better motorway cruise than the Hatch however, as it's larger body soaks up the bumps better. It has been noted in all reviews that the Saloon has incredibly upright rear seats to give it it's Big boot, and it's true, they hurt after a while, especially because of the nasty Classic Trim Cloth. A far cry from The Seat Cordoba sister of which handles much better.

Weights and Dimensions:

As you can imagine, it's heavier than the Hatch and lighter than the Estate, but only marginal differences occur in the weights department. The Saloon is 4,222 mm long, 1,449 mm high and 1,893 mm wide, giving it better space than the hatchback and more bootspace than the Estate.

As a summary, when you go to your nearest Showroom and asko for A Fabia Saloon, the Salesman may try to see if Beadles about, and you might have a long wait, or end up with an ex-Skoda Fleet car like I did. If you have to pick one, it's the 100hp Classic+, But don't waste your time, the Saloon is unpopular for good reason.

I was going to get a Fabia saloon but unfortunatel the only engine worth having is the 1.4 16v which is a bit thirsty. If only they did the 1.2 12v I wouldn't mind paying the full book price for one and then put a rear spoiler on.

I've only seen two after spending over two years in a Skoda dealer.

Lummox, is that a Fabia VRS estate? or should that be hatchbak cos i've never seen or heard of a vrs estate before. If so do u have pictures of a vrs estate?

Wind resistance is better than the hatchback but not as good as the estate. I think the hatchback has resistance factor of 0.32, estate has (if I rightly remember from an older brochure) is 0.29, saloon somewhere in between.

The fact that the estate has lower wind resistance/more aero dynamic than the hatch might explain why the estate seems quieter than the hatch- to me anyway.

I am female!!!!!!!!!! I say "ooo that car is pretty i want that one please" And big cars arent girls cars, certtainly not Octys, or Estates. Girly should own pretty little cars. (Yes I am THAT shallow that I judge other women by the manlyness of their car :D)

That car wouldn't look out of place at a cruise. I think you've taken a standard estate, modified it and then called it a vrs estate, so it's not really a vrs estate, it's a modified estate! Having said that I suppose you could build a vrs Roomster, vrs superb and vrs all the rest of the range.

True it is a modified estate.

But you don't get alot more vRS than that as it has engine, gearbox, electrics, trim etc etc from a vRS on it.

My boot is empty most of the time but i'll probably have an amp and a speaker in it soon. I just prefer the estate body style. I don't fix stuff. I may have a small engine with a big boot but my driving makes up for it!

True it is a modified estate.

But you don't get alot more vRS than that as it has engine, gearbox, electrics, trim etc etc from a vRS on it.

Did you have 14inch alloys before on it, let me know if you're selling them.

Only the steels as it was a basic spec.

I'm after some 14 inch wheels on it. I know they look a bit small and 195 50 with 15inch alloys will fit and are a more readily available sized wheel, but i've had 4 new tyres on it. Do you know if polo or golf wheels will fit. I think my fabis is 38 offset and are 5 stud? (Not sure yet, haven't taken the wheel cover off to look)

Check the Fabia alloy archive thread but yes 9N Polo wheels fit.

I 've checked out the alloy archive but none of the links work and they're all talking about 16 or 17 inch wheels. What do u mean by '9N'

Also it is fair to say this estate will give a stock Fabia vRS a damn good hiding with the Quaife, hybrid turbo and currently about 200 bhp, with a fair chunk more to come ;)
