Stripped out interior

Featured Replies

Set to work trying to sort the little niggly rattles out in the fabia, they were coming from the boot trim area. after having a browse around and trying to sort the noise i gave up :thumbdwn:.

So i stripped the whole back interiour  lol, no more noise

I still have my spare to strip out and the back seats, which i'll do next weekend.

So i have 3 questions....

1. How much weight will i save and will i notice it (the whole rear/boot/ rear pillars / speakers etc are out)

2. Will my car look like its on stilts afterwards? its lowered on eibachs so will it look like a tractor?

3. Anyone replaced the spare with that air stuff that seals the hole? is it also advisable to take the spare on long journeys?

Cheers

Jason

Always carry a spare.

Ive got a feeling if your car is supplied with a spare, you must carry it.

Ill ask my mot mate.

Dave

I understand the law to be that if you carry a spare it must be legal.

Am i right in thinking some new cars arent even supplied with spares? just a puncture repair kit which is that air weld tire stuff

But i know what your saying about the fabia having one as standard

I thought it was law to have a spare? Isn't it an M.O.T failure not to have one?

You could get a space saver spare?

some new cars dont have them, the folks bmw has run flats and no spares and IIRC some new cars dont have anything bar a puncture repair kit:confused:

clio 182 dose not have a spare and i know there are a few other cars that dont. if you carry a spare then it must be legal

I believe IF you have one in the car it must be legal, but if you don't have one....? Well, what can they test? "Damn, I can't measure the tread/check the sidewalls on this invisible spare wheel!" ;)

I carry one - just in my boot as my spare wheel well is full of LPG tank, but if I thought the risk was worth taking, I'd leave it out.

i also heard that one, if your spare is bald lets say and you have an mot just take it out, urban myth maybe but what i've heard

if you have a spare it must be legal if you fit it to the vehicle on a public highway.

it is not an offence to carry a bald tyre in the boot.

it is not an offence to not carry a spare.

You understand incorrectly.

There is no legal requirement to carry a spare , or for it to be legal.

Think about this for a minute.

If it was illegal to carry a non-roadworthy spare or none at all then what happens if you get a puncture and need to swap wheels?

You put the spare on the car and you'd have to walk to get a new tyre because you wouldn't be allowed to drive with the punctured one in the boot

Well I know a mate of mine had a puncture. And when the AA bloke came out to sort it, my mate told him that his spare couldn't be used because it had a puncture from 2 months previous.

I believe the AA fella reported it and my mate got a fine or whatever...

He could just be bs'ing

He is talking crap.

I'll pay money to anyone that can prove that it's illegal to drive a car on the road with no spare or an unroadworthy one in the boot.

Then it would appear he talks crap :P

The spare is not part of the MOT test.

As you may know, my car is stripped of everything except front seats, dash, harnesses and roof lining. I DID go round with no spare - until i hit a pothole and split the sidewall. Tyre foam is good, but it's not that good. I always carry my spare now, plus the rear of the car is too excitable under hard braking once you remove everything. Id be leaving in the spare.

As for how much wieght you save overall - remove everything and see how your car feels ;)

well it started off as a repair the annoying noise but after getting annoyed i started ripping it to bits (along with my hands)

it might continue as the plastic trim bugs me, i think i have an overcompulsive disorder when it comes to rattly trim... either that or i'll self tap all the plastic together and drive in bliss:thumbup:

Stripped, pah pansies..
