dented 16" elegance alloy wheel :(

Featured Replies

Finally found the right car a couple of days ago - Y reg TDi elegance estate. 74k with full service history.

Was giving it a check over, copper-slip on the alloys etc when i found that one of the alloys is dented on the inner edge. It's a 2" flat spot with no obvious damage to the tyre.

Should i replace the whole wheel or will i get away with it?

If i do need to buy a wheel where's the best place to buy - had a look on ebay and can't find anything.

cheers

andrew

it really depends on the flat spot. I ran a 3 series BM with quiet a large flat spot and it was fine for 12 months. There is no cure for a flat spotted alloy, if its bad then it needs to be replaced because attempted repair will most likely crack the wheel.

you could check the spare wheel, you maybe lucky and it be an alloy.

spare's a steel.

I can't feel the flat spot through the steering - no vibration etc., just concerned about the loss of strength in the wheel (and don't know how long it's been run with the flat spot)

Does anyone know the part number for the elegance alloys?

if you remove the wheel, the part number is stamped on the back by where the bolts pass through.

ok, thanks

don't suppose you've got a spare one? :)

If your wheels are the same as I had on my 4x4 Elegance the part number is 1U0 601 025 M. I've now got black chrome L&K wheels that could really do with being refurbished, but I might change for some 17" vRS wheels if I can find some at a good price.

got a feeling they're slightly different to the 4x4 wheels - will have a look later on today for the part number, Thanks all the same
