Whilst changing over my alloys, I found this...

Featured Replies

Decided to swap over my fronts and rears.

Front right which I thought had a slow puncture was found with a nail on the inside of the tyre. I think it's repairable, but need to find one of the plug thingies used to repair. Halfords were useless, as always :(

Then, in removing the rear left alloy, two things surprised me.

1) the small phillips countersunk screw that's about 1.5cm long that goes on the mounting plate came off. Makes me wonder if it was ever screwd in properly or if it was just loose and floating around in the little triangular space on the inside of the alloy  What does this screw do? I put it back in place but worrying to think it was loose.

2) at the back of the caliper, object "thingy1.jpg" was attached. A little tug released it from the calipers. Any idea what that little thing is?

Lastly, whilst scurrying in the boot to get the spare wheel out (cos Halfords were useless (ditto) ), came across "thingy2.jpg" in the spare wheel well. Any ideas?

1644.attach

1645.attach

The screw doesnt serve much of a function.. its mainly there to hold the disc against the hub when the wheels are off.

as for thingy 1 and 2... i have no idea :P

thingy 1 looks like a long bendy thingy with clips for uses by secret services and thingy 2 is obviously a little plastic cover thingy used for covering other thingy's

I detect a common theme here :)

Thingy1 looks like one of thoughs thingy things that I have no idea what their for. As for thingy2. Its does look like a plastic thingy thing.

Does this help?

see, someone else on here is a true techie, like myself

The long plastic thingy is attatched to the handbrake caliper from the factory. It is used to pull the handbrake mech on the back of the caliper down when attatching the cable.

Thingy 2 is a model A402/PBT plastic thingy. It has many applications, too technical to discuss here. It's a late '03 model, easily distinguished by the pink colour, and the secret markings.

Hope this helps.

... Thingy 2 (model A402/PBT) : the PBT stands for "Plastic Bit of Thingy"

A402/PBT is fitted throughout the whole Skoda range. The part description is 'Code 2 - part number unknown' and it comes in all shapes and sizes; in all materials and colours; and can be glued, screwed, rivetted, tied, clipped, clamped or just left loose in various positions in, on or under the car.

Sounds almost like a technical comment out of etka, but somehow doubt it :D

Hmm could be but again....

Cheers Ross for your comment. The most unlike-Skoda and most helpful one yet  :P

Wondered what the replies would have been if the pics were labelled something other than "thingy"

Thingy 2 is probably made of polybutylene terephthalate.

HTH ;)

Now where did I put that GPS RF transceiver ?
