Columbus MFD3 RNS 510 Custom POI tool available :)

Featured Replies

Yes it is now available but still in progress.

With this tool you can add your custom poi`s onto the DVD and it works great.

First you have to create an ISO image from your V2 or V3 DVD.

Now you can mount it with your favorite image tool (i use daemon tools).

Fire up the the tool and browse to the Drive letter.

Select your language and add the poi`s you like.

This is a screenshot of version 2.0 but 2.4 is now available.

In the directory where you extracted the rar file it will create a directory localsave when you added some poi`s.

You have to copy these files into the iso image again (i use UltraISO) and save the image again.

Now burn it with a max speed of 4x and load it into your NAV system and start navigating :)

Another tip is to use a DVDRW until you are sure it is working then burn it on a DVD.

If you create a poi in the root it wont work though you have to create it in a sub directory.

The icons have to be 34x39 pixels and 32 bit or else they wont show up.

The looks excellent.

I was just wondering if you can use the DVD as an "upgrade" and install it on the HDD or do you have to run this from the DVD?

Yes you can run it from the HDD.

Few simple steps have to be done.

Step 1: Rename the DVD label

Step 2: edit cdrom.toc with notepad in the root of the DVD.

Example:

My DVD label is CD_6160 (VW DVD V2) and the cdrom.toc has the same info inside.

Just raise both with 1 so it will be CD_6161 and burn it.

The Columbus will recognize it as a new version and it asks if you want to use it temporarily or load it to the HDD.

Easy as that :)

Nice work.

That is brillaint. Lack of users own POI's is the biggest negative in my eyes of the in-built sat navs.

Is there a limit on the number of POI files and the number of entries contained within?

I really dont know if there is a limit.

We have to find that out i think.

I will send the creator of the tool an email and ask if there is a limit.

Will let you know.

Got an answer from the creator of the tool.

Hi, there is no limit, at least I guess so. You can add as many POIs as you want. Only have to use uniqe numbers.

Does anyone know if this works with the MFD2 ?

MFD2 uses a different mapping company Ray.

Nice work.

Hmm explain please so i can help you with it.

Read the first post again and let me know the part you dont understand.

I've not had a chance to look at how you would add a UK camera database to this, simply not had the time yet.

One minor concern I would have is that if you keep installing 'newer' version numbers to the unit how would you then install a new genuine map update if it were released? Would you have to edit every future version of the map that you use to increase it's version number?

  • Author

Easiest way to change map version is to switch between 2 numbers.

I switch between CD_6160 and CD_6161

It will detect a new map when the number is different and it doesnt matter if its higher or lower.

Would this help with a problem I have? Presently my columbus displays "VW Centres" Not Skoda ones! Everything else comes up Skoda! It must therefore be reading VW POI files for some reason. So could I alter the coding for the existing VW POI's so they became Skoda ones & vice versa? So that way it would fooled into displaying the correct POI's, If you follow what i am saying!! Sorry I'm not sure I've expressed myself technically correctly here!!

I dont know if thats possible but you can always add the skoda poi`s yourself.

Thanks SV, it might take me a while as I've never used ISO images or Mounts so I'm struggling to get off the starting grid!!

Downloaded all the tools you said you used, but it dot soemthing I'm familiar with! Any help with more detail on the basics would be appreciated!

Cheers

Anyone know of a Mac Version?:D

I dont wanna insult my beautiful 17" MBP by boot camping XP or Vista. :D:D:D

Carl:thumbup:

This should work with any Blaupunkt system, on any car, wont it?

Where can i get the maps in v3 version? , i have v2 installed and the dealer said that it doesn't have the v3 version unless comes with a new car so they can copy it.

Is anywhere on the internet the maps for eastern europe v3 so i can download them?

Copying a DVD would be illegal ;)

Legally - Which is of course the only thing that can be discussed on these forums:

EBay.

Will cost you around £50 for the V3 maps.

V3 is still the newest, no word on if/when we'll see a V4/2009 update.

I would expect to see a V4 disk around April/May time if the last updates have been anything to go by.

Anybody got a new link for the mercedes download - they are both dead
