TT lower control arms

Featured Replies

Are these the same as the Octavia RS?

I've been advised that the rear bushes on mine are worn and will probably fail the MOT. I'm going to call Skoda and see if this is something that can be done under warranty, if not I've got to foot the bill and may aswell improve them! I've read on other forums that the TT rear bushes are better than the standard RS ones and aslo prefered by many people over poly ones.

The mechanic I would use if I had to pay to get this done said he would just replace the whole arm rather than faffing around cutting the old bush out, as the extra labour cost would more than offset the extra cost of buying the new arms with bushes in place. So if I do go down this route, could I just order up TT lower control arms and fit them?

Ta!

Just been looking at this for you and I reckon the bush itself will fit but the arm won't. It looks a little different to me, although I am no expert, I can have abetter look later for you if no one else can verify.

Mmm

The TT`s the majority are 4wd

So dont know about that , as these are different

There is a 2wd variant though which may use the same wishbone set up as the octy iirc

Yes , but that is it , the 2wd is the same as the Octy , will be same bushes

1j0 part number?

Same bush?

Oh, I thought I'd read on here that the bushes at least would fit, I thought I'd erad it on the Seat forums too, maybe it was the UKMKIV's then and they were reffering to 4 Motions?

Although, I might be being stupid, but surely the front end on the cars, 2WD or 4WD can still be the same!?

Powerflex Uprated Suspension Bushes - car polyurethane suspension bush, bump stops & exhaust mounts. Bushes: wishbone, anti-roll bar mount, track control arm, beam mount, TCA, shocks, dampers, springs

That is the listings for the TT 4wd

The bush is the same for the front wishbone rear bush

So the OEM part numbers will match

 so all the TT`s are going to have the same part numer so what bushes are you using?

Umm, nope. I was under the impression the OE TT ones were the ones to go for, and they fit!? Let me see if I can find what I was looking at that made me think all this...

You can fit the TT lower arms but its not a straight fit. The arms are different being forged? maybe but they are a lighter and stronger design. They alse use a different ball joint. They recently fitted a set onto Neil Birketts Golf in Volkswagen Driver magazine, APS did the work.

This combines std TT lower arms, Defcon front bushings and new ball joints. It give a improved cornering ability and allows for camber adjustment on the ball joint.

Lummox how about just the bushes in a std octy lower arm

Not sure if they would fit.

But either way I would fit some Poly bushes anyhow if using the std arms.

Which is what I'm doing next job:thumbup: , just wondering about the TT bushes thats all

Hmm, it seems the solid bushes from the TT or a Leon will fit in the RS control arm. Is it worth attempting this or just getting new OE lower arms fitted?

From reading a few more old threads in there, Lummox you are correct, the forged lower arms from earlier TTs and LCRs will fit but you need some other parts, does seem to be worthwhile, but at what cost!?

Polys are probably the most cost effective route. In theory it should be last time you ever need to change them

Not true, apparently. Looking around on UKMKIVs and VW Vortex there are quite a few guys on there with cars that have nastily worn polys on. Apparently they're good for some of the bushings, but not all.

As I said in theory:rolleyes:

Still they should last longer than the VAG alternatives (hopefully)

Which ones??

Umm, I can't remember now! I think they were saying they were good for bushings which are like cotton reel shaped, but not big flat ones... or was it the other way round....

Click on that link I put up and it'll go all over the place with loads of different threads but there's some interesting information to be picked up.

the forged TT arms have larger front bushes, use larger balljoints with a degree of camber adjustment due to the balljoint fixing holes being slotted, and increase the front castor angle compared to the pressed steel arms.

... and the rear bushes are solid rubber rather than the RS's ones with the little 'voids' in.

correct  although they are still as soft and worth changing for poly's IMO

When they are new they are better than the mainstream version with voids.

So if the TT bushes fit the RS lower arms, are the poly bushes the same part for both? I'm guessing the poly part for the RS wouldn't have the stupid voids in it, would it?

I really don't know what to do, I've been advised they are worn and to be honest the front end of the car doesn't feel as tied down as it should, plus I can now detect a slight clunk from the front end. I just really cannot be arsed with my dealer. I know I'm entitled to get things sorted, that's what the warranty is for, but I'm sure they must hate me now. Since getting the car in August it must have been back to them a dozen times. I've had two coil packs, a breather hose, an anti roll bar link, three clutches, a flywheel and 'steering knuckles' replaced, whatever the hell they are. The thing is, it feels better once they have done something and then it gets worse again. So I say ''Yeah, thanks, thats loads better'' and then call them up with another problem the next week. Plus they're crap and I have to tell them what I think the problem is most of the time! I just want my car to be how it's supposed to be...

Three clutches? Something wrong with em or just not sympathetic?
