There is a section of the forum for this very thing. Unfortunately most people don't check it regularly or even know of it's existence.

I think tbh it would take PM'ing months in advance a link to a thread in there to as many Irish members as you can think of on here, asking for the word to be spread. It has been discussed before and seems to always fall through with late drop outs etc. My own availability depending on a set date I would be happy to go to one. The section above had a 'Ring of Kerry' one in it, that sort of thing would be great but, it's unlikely people will be able to make it from one end of the island to the other just for a meet some afternoon.... Somewhere central would be good for a big one. Ideal world smaller regional ones would be better and then the rare big one.

Thanks Fubar I said I'd ask here with the hope of a bigger response than in the events section as I noticed the poor response to previous ones mentioned above. Another idea would be to have our own mini meet at the monthly vagdrivers/autostadt Midlands meet held the first Thursday of every month in Athlone which is fairly central.

I just picked it up Wednesday, love it so far. It's much nicer than the GTi I had previously. The power delivery is much smoother IMO and continues all the way through the range. Just planning a few little bits to help it along at the moment over the next few weeks. Starting with mud flaps I think, some German pressed plates with Skoda surrounds, LED interior and possibly registration plate lights and finally some yellow fog light bulbs!

 

Any recommendations?

Also the remap potential, if it has not already been done is a nice cheap mod (Joe Power in Dublin comes highly recommended on here) 

 

Reg lights to LED may need to check around the forum for ones which will work without tripping the light out alerts, can bus ready ones etc. (definately worth a search to find a tried and tested set from Ebay)

 

The new Skoda badges as a popular mod to do now too, they do not de-laminate and go all scabby like the green ones inevitably do.

 

Sound like you have it all sorted for mods to be getting on with. I have a colour coded grill surround (as per my profile pic). The chrome one on the pre FL like yours is a lot more discrete than the massive mirror job that came on mine. Some colour code them, some don't. I still think it looks good done.

I've had a couple of cars that were kitted and lowered (A4 & Accord) so I'm hoping to keep this one nice and simple. Have 2 niggling issues to start with, a dint in the passenger side wing and a pressure switch on the air con system to get replaced. I bought the car knowing they needed doing so once they're out of the way I can spend something on a few little mods. 

 

What's the "forum accepted" way of connecting an iPod to a Stream stereo? I know over on Type Accord all of us used an XcarLink and it worked flawlessly.

The Bolero stereo might be a good upgrade on Ebay (cheaper than Columbus) touch screen with 6 disc changer built in and you have an SD slot in it etc, then you can also if you want get MDI and retrofit it to that. Not sure on going rate prob find one for sale on the forum too, Columbus (RNS510 same as in VW/Audi etc) is £500 ish on Ebay. With MDI you can control via the touch screen and charge the ipod (or any device connected)

I am not a fan of anthracite wheels now as they have been done so much. I like the race blue with the normal silver personally. Mirrors I have left alone and remap is a must! I had mine done in NI at Auto-Tune. Joe Power in Dublin comes highly recommended on here in the past. Grill surround I paid around £60 (GBP) and I think only £50 for it to be painted (any body shop should be able to match the paint and do a good job, id still only use a place recommended for that though).
