HOW To - Octavia MK1 rear window (dropped) - regulator cables/clip replacement

Featured Replies

In a short period both rear windows in my Mk1 Octavia Estate failed and dropped inside the door.

The Haynes manual was pretty useless - so in case any of you encounter similar problems, I decide to make an illustrated pdf guide on how to repair/replace the dreaded dropped rear window winder/regulator mechanism.

Unfortunately I have no idea how to go about uploading the pdf to the Briskoda website so for now I have put a copy of the HowTo Guide (280KB) on my own website here:

How To

I hope it is helpful.

(Mods - I am not sure if this is the right way to upload stuff, so if you prefer, please feel free to put this document on the Briskoda site somewhere and update the link.)

Chaps,

To keep this uptodate can I add the following:

I have followed this guide and was unlucky as the cables had chewed themselves. I ordered a replacement clip and a regulator repair kit from eBay for a total of around £20 which included the cables and pretty much everything you need. The job of attached the cables, getting them tight and wrapped around everything properly was extremely frustrating and took me around 30 minutes. It is possible though! I was so absorbed by the exercise I have no pictures however if anyone is desperate get in touch. If the other rear door goes I'll take pics next time.

Thanks

Hi All.

I have been fightng with this problem almost 4 years.

Every replacement clip I have fixed have been broken imediately or within 1 week.

I have found different solution. I have redesigned it and made it solid and durable.

You can find the fixing guide on my website:

http://www.briskoda.net

and buy from ebay:

I am working on new front doors electric window regulator Clips (Sliders) and going to publish soon.

Trust me, this makes me really happy and brings me a lot of design experience and satisfaction.

Regards.

I have just replaced a regulator clip on mine having followed this useful guide and its a very straightforward job for anyone who does home mechanics.

Parts are dirt cheap on Ebay. Two points I would make is don't separate the motor from the spool unless you really suspect cable damage as the spool and motor are joined so when you take the motor off the spool pops off and cables spring out then need to be rewound which can be tricky (as I found out).

Second point is if one sides broken chances are other side may not be far behind so whilst your at it remove the door card on the other side and grease both sides of the metal slider on the regulator, you can reach inside the door to do this so whole job only takes around 15 minutes.
