All of you remember.Always replenish when the engine is COLD. Let the engine cool, preferably overnight and do it in the morning. This is VERY important, any good mechanic will confirm

Yep, I have replenished when cold. The Skoda assistance person brought along a bottle of coolant and said new engines use up coolant?? This new Yeti is maybe using more than it should as the level has now dropped a cm (I carefully drew a line at the level when topped up) after a further 1000kms. Maybe someone forgot a washer when assembling it. I am taking it into the dealer tomorrow, hoping to get a replacement car while they look at it. It is deeply depressing when things go wrong with a new car.

Enlightened,it is indeed depressing having problems with a new car.I totally sympathise your situation.

I would suggest you send them a registered letter for the record right away, and better still a warning from your solicitor ,it is time to take your gloves off.

I am sure you are liable for a substantial sum of money to compensate you. Having to part from your NEW car until the end (?!) of November is a bit much to say the least and no joke.Activate your solicitor immediately. He shall have to read the small print and sharpen his teeth.

By the way , telling you a new engine consumes more water is utter nonsense. It might consume a couple of hundred cc or so for the first few miles until air pockets are filled, but that is it.I live in a hot part of the country ,temp. doesnt go below + 40c July and August, I have driven about 3000 km during these months and replenished about 150 cc only.A healthy Yeti is Not a water guzzler.Period.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Cathy, did you get your problem solved yet?

Cathy,

can you be sure that nobody ever topped up the Coolant system with the wrong type of Antifreeze Coolant?

You should have asked that person that came out to put in writing that 'New Cars use coolant'.

It is a sealed system.

Many Vehicles sit at Minimum for years & servicing workshops top them to Maximum and after the first time they are up to running temp they are back to 'Minimum' and stay there'. They set there own level, all my cars for ever have done this.

(As the system pressurises it open the Radiator or Expansion tank cap and ejects a small amount of Coolant from the overflow pipe & the Level is set. When hot the coolant might be near MAX, but as the engine sits cool will be at or near MIN,

Different from Vehicle to Vehicle and engine type, but its been similar for many decades, Over filling ca cause major problems with wrongly fitted pressure caps, radiator or Expansion/filler bottle)

A vRS i had serviced last month did it, The Workshop topped up the bottle, I collected the car and checked,

got home, back as it was before the service, at Minimum.

the level will stay at minimum for ever.

The Correct Antifreeze only is so important. G12+ (G13) if that is what is specified.

good luck

I am topping up with the G12 coolant as prescribed. Today I took it in to a garage courtesy of Skoda Assistance with all the equipment to test it and I was given a little car to use while they pressurised the system and checked for leaks. The mechanics were as helpful and as understanding as could be but they didn't detect a leak. I don't understand how a loss of about 200mls per 1000kms can be detected by a pressure test. There probably is no way of testing for such a small yet extremely annoying leak in a brand new car. I'll just have to live with it and wait for the warning light to come on again, then take it back in. Not sure what will happen in the long run. They won't give me a new car. I have been very unlucky.

I have had loss of coolant in my Yeti, the guarantee ran out  2 weeks ago. I took it to ATS and they said it was the water pump but can't fix it. Skoda want nearly £400 to fix it and won't cover it. The service I have received from the Skoda dealership has been shocking start to finish. Whatever I have taken it in for, it has come out with triple the problems.  I would never buy a Skoda ever again.

Could you give dealership name and details of bad service ?

Why take a car to a tyre dealer for a mechanical problem?

Exactly. ATS are fine for tyres, brakes, exhausts & batteries - and very little else.

If your dealer isn't helping I would personally be logging a complaint with Skoda UK customer services - explain the car is just out of warranty and your dealer is being unhelpful.

If you get no joy there, find your nearest VAG specialist and have them change it - probably be half the cost or less.

I would not expect much joy where the water pump is concerned. Water Pumps are serviceable parts. They are designed to leak when they're nearing end-of-life so that you realise they need changing rather than them just seizing and leaving you with a complete engine to replace or rebuild.

My 1.2 petrol Yeti has been losing  water at an alarming rate for a few weeks now. I have to top it up every time I use it. Usually it is at the lower mark on the reservoir. No sign of spray off from the fan and I am hoping it is a hose leak but some of these comments are very alarming. There is a constant puddle on the garage floor. I am about to take it in to get it checked. This together with the appalling oil use is making me feel like selling it. It has done 37,000 miles and I bought it new in Jan 2010. My previous Fabia which I had from new never needed topping up with any fluid between services.
