Have DSG reliability problems been cured?

Featured Replies

We went to look a the Rapid today ( it was **** IMHO), I had to drag my wife and 15 year to the dealers as they hate looking at cars, but both fell I love the Elegance spec Superb with cream leather interior and begged for a test drive!!

We are now seriously considering a DSG Superb probably new and the 6 speed diesel but haven't totally discounted the 7 speed 1.8 petrol I'm just concerned about the DSG long term reliability. Have recent fixes been successful and if so what model year as I may consider a demonstrator if I can find the right spec?

I'm no expert, but most issues I see on here about DSG problems are related to the 7 speed

The 6 Speed gearbox is a real workhorse today. It's originally from late 2003, so all bugs are ironed out by now.

I haven't had any issue with my 170 Diesel DSG, and i have a heavy foot.

My old 2008 6 speed DSG ran perfectly for the 2 years and 44K miles I ran the car. it was also remapped by shark for quiet some time.

I have had both. 6 speed VRS diesel and 7 speed Superb 1.8

Overall the 7 is smoother in all gears except the change into 2nd gear where sometimes the take up can be quite harsh until the clutch is fully engaged and is more noticeable going uphill.

Has been into my Skoda dealer where they and an Audi tech confirmed there is nothing wrong with it.

However if you are buying new go for the diesel as the depreciation will much less than a 1.8 petrol

If you prefer nearly new look at this one for a good saving

If it sets your mind at ease, the 6 speed DSG in my 2006 140PD (remapped from new) Octavia currently has 522,000kms on it ,and still running fine!!!

1.8TSi with 7 speed DSG. 30 months and 27k miles with no problems. Would have no hesitation (apart from need to cut costs!) in buying another.

Got one of each - both excellent.

I have a six speed DSG in my Octavia, no problems at 225K. Just change the oil and filter every 40K.

I now have 550,000kms on mine.

I am at 41000 and 6 gear dsg is making noises due to be change by dealer. So be very careful, get extra warranty etc

I have 94,000 miles in 2.5 years on my 170 DSG and no problems

Hi all,

Is the Superb estate 2.0 CR 170 diesel a 6 or 7 speed DSG?

Thanks,

Rob

It's a 6 speed. I think the 7 speed is only available on the TSI (petrol) models.

THanks,

It seems most reliability issues are common with the 7 speed. Is this correct?

Cheers,

Rob

Well I've had mine for almost a year now and its never missed a beat.

Regards.

Mike.

Thanks Mandp.

Go diesel n DSG.. My Superb with 6 speed has just done 20k and not missed a beat, although I try to drive economically.

Had Octavia previously, with 140hp 2.0tdi. Drove it hard most of the time and 6 speed dsg always smooth as silk.

Before Octavia was an '04 Passat with 6 speed DSG...a right dog in town. I think the 6 speed is old enough now to have had the bugs sorted.

Buy with confidence mate, DSG is a sweet box and mine was always good.

1.8TSI with 7 speed DSG.

12000kms and going in for clutch pack replacements in about two weeks.

Mine had 70k on it and was working perfectly, I had the DSG service at 50k,

I was loaned a Golf 1.4TSi at one time and I found the box snatched a bit,

Most common on them is the do the dual mass flywheel in at 90-100k and the way to tell is you can hear what sounds like a pebble in a washing machine when the car is cold,

Cars from 2006 2008 vintage did suffer from mechatronic faults but iirc VW did them under warranty at the time,

In the USA VW have to put a ten year 100k warranty on the DSG.

I've had my 6 speed VRS diesel 15mths now, & its' my 1st. Must say that I'm really impressed with the pick it has when in sports mode. It's just had the clutch adjusted by computer after 44k miles. After a week, it feels even smoother...
