Remap smoke

Featured Replies

Greetings, remapped my car the other day, it runs great nice power increase and so on. Thing is when I accelerate I get more smoke than I used to. The garage says this is normal..I just thought I'd check..is it normal? 2004 vrs 1.9 tdi

Yeah I little if it smokes a lot could be over fuelling a bit :) mine smokes a little more than it used to :)

Yep its normal. . . Run it on shell v-power. . .i noticed significantly less smoke compared to normal diesel . . And a ton less smoke than super market fuels

How would I know if it is over fuelling?

Who mapped it?

If it was over fueling badly it'd be chucking plooms of BLACK smoke out. . .

Like on old pug 306 d turbos when the boy racers used to just turn boost and fueling upto full. Haha.

Shouldnt really smoke too much

Too much smoke is unburnt fuel which increases exhaust gas temp which can eventually blow a piston if too bad

I can relate to that, 50% of my mates do said modification and then they wonder why they only get 18 mpg!

Who mapped it?

Local garage, AMS Radcliffe. Is it worth taking it some where else ? Just to check or will it have to be remapped again in order to check or can they just see of the computer read outs?

Just have a rolling road tested you'll be able to see if the map is nice and smooth and other bits and bobs :)

I got a shark map off cn tuning and it doesnt smoke. Actually think there is less than std.

Never see anything behimd me ne way

Rtech map and mine barely smokes unless I been poodling along for a while and boot it, even then it's only minor.

There shouldn't be any need for any excess smoke if the remap is done correctly

Thanks for your interest, I have had a day of driving it around, I don't really drive it much during the week as I use a van. Anyways today it seems better. It smokes after 3k revs but not as bad.

Should intake it back? Or can anyone recommend where to take it for a second opinion?

To be honest the mechanic has a racing heritage, and does seem to know what he is doing. Where can I take it for a rolling road test in Manchester ?

Awesome gti mate they are there somewhere

Awesomes rollers are miles off

My average mpg has gone up a bit.. ! Must be ok???

My Shark map smokes less than standard :)

Smoke + MPG display up = indicative of a badly written map. The mechanic may have racing heritage and may seem to know what he's doing when it comes to cars, but that unfortunately doesn't mean whoever wrote the map did.

Sounds like they've just turned the fueling up to give more power.

How much did it cost you?

I see... Shark your reputation is a good one, can I bring my car to you to remap... Does it matter how many times it gets remapped?

I agree. Sounds like the smoke maps and/or duration maps have not been edited correctly.
