Best mpg you've had ?

Featured Replies

Was quite happy with myself tonight, drove from thirsk down to Sheffield on the A1 with lots of traffic, cruise control at 60 all the way returned 72 mpg ! Although it is downhill most of the way, sat at the same speed on the way back up to Darlington saw me 65 mpg :)

What's the best everyone's had in their cars ?

80.2 mpg on a 21 mile stretch between just outside Penrith and junction 43 of the M6. That was driving at 60 and smoothly.

Helped by the fact that theres a good downhill stretch to begin with, so the readout started out at 99.9 and slowly went down from there.

Still very pleased though. The average by the time I reached Newcastle (sticking religiously to 60mph along the A69) was 68mpg.

Round trip from Yorkshire to Hampshire on Tuesday saw 65mpg on the maxi dot which probably equates to about 62/63 real world (Haven't filled up yet to check this).

50.1.....

Can't wait to get my EGR replaced

Are these Mickey Mouse computer figures or calculated?

The computers all lie anyway. I know mine does a real average of 50mpg, or thereabouts and I am happy with that, I regularly get the readout saying 65mpg+ but its taken with a pinch of salt and is merely representative that I might perhaps be pushing mid 50s if I am lucky.

Who cares? I've got approaching 300 horses under my right foot. Fuel economy is beginning to take more of a backseat in my life now.

55.81mpg calculated. Not bad for a 1.4mpi.

Sadly it was coming off vented fills to normal fills :)

Mine always ready about 53 mpg it's more like 47 reality.

Not that I'm too bothered as the car is a joy to drive and none of my other cars have been as quick as the fabia yet be so cheap to run!

Mine always reads 60-70mpg but combined calculated is usually 55mpg

30mpg 90% urban driving. The best mpg i've had was on a 6hrs drive to south of France, i got 40mpg doing 60mph most of the way on the motorway.

That was on the computer, but my last trip was 398 miles (50% motorway/ dual carriageway at 60mph, 50% winding, hilly Lake District roads) at 57mpg, calculated.

On that evidence, I'd be surprised if the trip computer was any more than 5% out.

tbh i have only just got my fabia....but i have come from a 3.0 petrol auto lexus to the 1.9tdi and im well happy with the fuel consumption...have seen like 50mpg so far....

To a tank, mostly stupid town driving, usually not even up to temperature, I see an average of about 43.

I'm not sure if that's good or bad!

Although on a run in my old stage two s13 I saw 20mpg over 400 miles. Had a t28 an r33 gtr fuel pump and a massive boost leak! So worth it :)

how do you go about calculating the mpg? :)

Fill it up to the brim then zero your miles and when you fill up again you do the miles you've done ÷ how many litres you've put in to brim it again x 4.5

80mpg recorded on Trip 1 at the end of a 140 mile drive from York to Cambridgeshire cruising at 60mph. The true (brim to brim) figure was 60mpg.

I prefer just looking at how many miles i have remaining from my fuel on the computer display, when i start seeing it go down by 5 every minute, it's time to relax and slow down, sometimes it even goes back up again :)

On the motorway, cruising at 60mph in 5th seems like it can carry on going forever, it doesn't go down for ages

Then i get off the motorway and it goes down by 20-25 miles during the last 1 mile of going up hills to get home

how do you go about calculating the mpg? :)

I use Road Trip to log fuel/tyres/expenses/servicing, its the only way I can keep track of what's due on 3 different vehicles easily. I did 459 miles using a vented fill and put 37.39ltrs in at 129.7/ltr giving 10.6p/mile and 55.81mpg. As I mentioned, it's coming off a vented fill and going back to a normal fill so will be high, the previous tank (low because I put the extra fuel in) was 35.4mpg, which puts my average at 45.6ish over 843 miles, slightly higher than my lifetime average of 41.x but with careful driving in the (slightly) warmer month of June and a recently fully serviced engine with circa 31k on it doing 47.5 miles each way daily of mainly clear motorway/A roads its not unobtainable, i'm not that far off repeating a similar distance on my current tank and that's with a wheel bearing starting to grumble (again!).

The best I had (although only trip computer) was from Southampton up to Santa Pod, which averaged at 71.8mpg over 200ish miles. Although from Winchester to Southampton I have had over 80mpg

64.5 on glasgows m8. Was doing between 70/80. Engine had a goid warm in it.

See this most weeks, travelling between Cornwall and Bristol at a steady 64 mph.

Realistically, that true figure is about 68mpg, although I have got 72mpg out of it before. Calculated correctly, not just going off the computer.

I have no idea how you calculate MPG, but a friend of mine did manage to get my 1.4MPI down to 0.62 liter per 10km (EU mile.) Then again he does teach eco-driving so I'm pretty sure he could run it on fumes.

Managed 71 MPG calculated (in a PD100) on my commute home today. 20 miles on motorway/A roads, and cruised at 60 mph indicated behind a large motorhome!

The rising air temperature (+10c here today) is really having a positive effect on the fuel economy......my average on my current tank so far is 64 mpg calculated and rising......still 300 miles to go on this tank, so it looks like I'm going to break my personal record tank mpg (stands at 63.7 mpg...set last September) over the course of this tank!

Don't rely on the read out. Do the calculation yourself. The read outs are never accurate particularly when driving around town.

True.

My dash readout under reads by 6.75%
