Best mpg you've had ?

Featured Replies

Best I've had out of mine in 60.6mpg (calculated) after topping the tank up after 98 miles

best i've had is 310 miles on half a tank back in february, when i drove up to teeside from south wales, cruised about 70 mph and trip computer was between 56-58 mpg, i filled the tank to the brim, so say 50 litres full for the long journey and i managed getting 535miles with 70 miles left in tank and then i put 20 litres in from a fuel can which got me home. i'm quite happy with my cars economy.

I'm taking part in a properly organised economy run on sunday, hoping for a good figure :D

Best was 71.3mpg indicated dirving from newmarket to skegness and back with a car full of equpiment (literally to the brim!). Though my readout seems to be 5mpg or more short of actuall, so could have been closer to 76mpg.

So above and beyond the obvious things ( such as; driving smoothly, motorway driving, avoiding excessive speeds, correct tyre pressures, not carrying pointless loads) what technical things can you do to ensure that the car is running as efficiently as possible?

From time to time if I can be bothered I get 47mpg on my 15min drive home from work. Longer trips I see around 55mpg.

On a side note, I worked my mpg using the brim to brim method, worked out almost identical (less than a mpg difference) to the computer.

Usually after a tank of mixed driving my computer says I've averaged 40 to 42mpg.

Is this a normal?

I do hoon sometimes but not excessively.

Just had my best ever mpg, so thought I'd post an update here.

208 motorway miles from Taunton to North Yorkshire. I was driving at a steady 55mph (although the trip computer reports a 51mph average).

83.6mpg on the trip computer, 84.1 as measured by brimming the tank :-)

It was a dull journey though...

29 mpg. With that crazy 3.6 V6.

The longer and more steady the run, the more accurate the dash read out is. On runs of 80-85mph mine shows 55mpg. I checked this on a run to and from London to Doncaster. I filled up both ends and it was fairly accurate. Around town it is not so convincing.

I was lucky to get above 45 with my Fabia. :(

The 330d will do up to 50 over a tank, but 42-44 is a general average.

consistently returning 53-57mpg . trip computer on 2 after 2,500 miles is 57.8, so not too far off.

Not only recording miles and fuel used now, but also how I've driven those miles. On my spreadsheet I note down how many motorway, dual carriageway, a/b roads, town driving and blasting it!

As an example one week I did around 60% driving on dual and motorways got 53.9mpg overall. Last week did 75% driving on dual and motorways got 56.9mpg overall (but included more town driving). seem to be using a tank every 5 to 6 days

Most I've ever had calculated is 48 mpg to a tank worked out 52 on a run when I filled up just for that purpose.

Is that bad I know everyone's commutes are different?

People claiming quite high in this thread my trip computer is always about 15mpg wrong lol.

The other day i got 65mpg. Best ive had is 75

This is the problem with threads like this, single tank fills take no account of air locks or vented to normal fills or variation resulting in less fuel being put in and bumping the mpg up, combine that with some people post trip guesstimates vs others posting calculated figures and it just gets silly.

Very rare I get anything like this as cant help but hit the loud pedal lol

I usually get 450 miles out of a full tank ( street, backroads, dual cw and mway driving )

Not bad on the motorway

Sent from my iPhone on the toilet!

430-450 miles from a full tank with no venting , etc

about 80% motorway

half of that 80% is going at around 55-60mph through motorway road works 50mph limit, usually stay in 5th

6th gear doesn't feel right until you hit 70 at least

That is not very impressive for a current, I can get ---.

Ha you get infinite mpg!!

This is almost infinity, "average" not current was 87.8mpg over 24 miles down M62 to Trafford Centre. But the motor is a Fabia 2 1.4 Greenline. Not even hugging the hard shoulder in the inside lane - 60/65mph.

The best tankful average I've had was 57.8 mpg. It was Folkestone to Home with a slight detour to Gravesend, 316 miles. At the time (Easter 2010) It only cost me £30 in Fuel (25l). emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Using the trip computer, I've had much better mpg for much shorter journeys though.

I can regularly get 60 mpg on the way to Redcar (approx 8 mile). My highest in my car for that journey was at one point 67 mpg, then at the end 65 mpg. On the other hand, I have once on the back road to it got 28.5 mpg! :o However, my Tankful average is normally between 45-50 mpg.

My Father once averaged this on a that journey in our PD100 Fabia:

12/4/2010, 9°C, 8 miles, average 25mph. He said, If he hadn't stopped for 3 sets of Traffic lights, it would have been at least 95 mpg. emoticon-0144-nod.gif
