New Roomster SE TSI 86ps

Featured Replies

 We got our brand new Roomster on Friday a smashing car and goes like muck off a shiney shove  l. The salesman at Caffyns did the usual introduction to a new car explaining everything, any way whilst showing to a friend I noticed that the front and rear had disc breaks but the spec showed that the rear breaking system should be drum. I am not complaining as that is a lot better but wondering wether they have changed their spec as they are only on the top spec vehicles :hi: ..

My 2012 TSI 105 SE+ has rear discs and I'm also sure the spec was for rear drums, it also has (seemingly) the most enormous front calipers with only a mm or two clearance between them and the Antares wheels.

I queried the rear discs with the salesman and he said perhaps they were standard if the car has ESP or ESC or PMT or DHL or something (in short he didn't know) but, like you I just accepted it. Perhaps they've given you a 105 by mistake (?) but more likely spec has changed and brochures are a step or five behind

The only thing I can think of is when we bought the car it was waiting on the dockside in Germany, I wonder if it is the speck for another english speaking, left hand driving country like Austrlia or NweZealand

My mums 105 TSI DSG has rear disks too, I think it's got ECP/ESP as standard on the SE?

I think if I remember right the vehicles with DSG rear disc's come as standard :sun:

I have a 2011 1.6 tdi 90ps SE and it has rear discs. Brochure states that only 105ps or DSG should have rear discs or if ESP is fitted. I have checked the engine code and it is a 90ps so I am at a loss. Not complaining though as discs obviously provide better braking performance.

I had a similar discussion with my dealer when buying my Roomster. The long and the short of it was the dealer could not tell from any of the Skoda spec sheets which spec would give rear discs and which rear drums. As others have said it is most likely down to some of the traction control features installed as to which type of brakes get fitted.

Mine is a 2010 105Hp one in the very basic specs, it's called Style in Greece, and also have rear discs, but no other acronyms beyond ABS. So no DGS, ESP, TCS, Hill Assist goodies. But breaks much much better than my previous Octavia and Fabia both MK1 cars having rear drums.

My 2007 model has rear discs... is there that much of a saving in it for Skoda to revert the new ones to drums? Or is it because mine is a 1.9 105ps engine?

I wonder if the ones with drums are prone to rust as much as these discs though. Every time it rains (nearly every day) the discs seem to rust over. I tend to use the handbrake on the first couple of stops to clear the rear discs, and possibly it wears them through alot quicker but the other option is ignoring it and have them go to pot. I've already changed the rear discs once due to rust buildup, when i first bought it from its previous owner.

My 08 1.6 3 has rear discs.
