Mirror glass dropped out

Featured Replies

Passenger side mirror glass dropped out as i was driving last night, are they just bonded in or do you need to take the back off the housing?

Looked on ebay and a new glass is a tenner or £48 from Skoda.

Oh no, not again!! Loads of reports of this, including mine. Most of us just stick the glass onto the existing backing plate using various methods. I managed to save my original glass and stuck it back with small blobs of Dev Con epoxy resin (5 minute setting time) holding it in the correct place with masking tape while it set.

No problems since (so far!).

Bear in mind it warms up so you need a heat resistant adhesive if you intend to use the mirror demist function.

cheers, have ordered one from ebay.

I ordered one from eBay last week as the driver's side one was on sale. Less than £10 delivered...

Arrived quickly and well packaged. Just waiting for passenger side to go on sale as that one probably wont last next winter out.

Happened on my Superb, but they're not heated and luckily glass didn't smash so a bit of super strength double-sided tape and it was all Blue Peter :whew:

Both of mine came loose last year in the heat (that one day we had!) Stuck them both back on with araldite rapid. Still heats the glass aswell!

This happened to mine too. On the way to the MOT but lucky for me its not come off completely yet

my newly replaced one is showing the same signs, wiggle above 60mph so will be checking shortly to see if I need to call the people on ebay for an exchange

Just had my nearside one go, daft design as said in many threads on here

Happened on my Octavia last year. I used a two part epoxy from Halfords and stuck it down. I clamped it whilst it set overnight. It provided a strong bond and still did heating.
