1.2 tsi advice sought

Recommended Posts

Hi all, looking to buy a 1.2 tsi roomster, having a quick read of some posts I can see there has been some cam chain/ tensioner problems.

I should be trying to get as new a car ( 64 or 15 reg ) as I can, I would be interested if anyone has any comments to make regarding this.

Thanks in advance

We got a late 2012 (2013 model), but I'm not too worried.

Will follow services and has factory warranty until 5 years/100 000kms, and insurance also covers until 8 years/200 000kms.

Either way, for me it seems the 1.4 TSIs are worse off than the 1.2s, although much the same.

Primarily I understand overrunning on oil intervals is a major killer, so I got my programmed for 15 kkm intervals.

Suspension problems were a noise when turning the wheel to the right at low speeds and parking. Cured by steering rack arms being fitted and graunching noise over speed humps cured by replacement drop links. It was a known problem but cured

Very strange, but I was a little unsatisfied with the instrument cluster... Driving in dark Norway, I didn't like no info except lit needles in normal mode. A shame to turn for night mode all the time...

Then we pulled a diagnostic scan. Voila. By some miracle (car hick up?) there is now also info in the info-screen with the speed in bright white letters, and I can toggle car computer data. :D

So, no big thing to consider, but I do approx 6.5 L/10 km it seems, that is local traffic only.

Do you only turn on Sidelights & Headlights when it is night time in Norway and not just because it can be Dark Norway even in the daytime.

That happens in the UK as well, people seem to think there is no need for others to see them in poor light / visibility / poor weather conditions,

or that the DRL's (Daytime / Daylight running lights) are doing the job. If they are even working that is, because many seem not to check that they are working.

No, it's setup from factory to be always on on all cars sold through Norwegian importer. :)

We simply make a choice of the "added extra" on the lights in night mode, or in my case - I do this to get lights in all buttons and instrument functions.
