If you can get Skoda to write a report that states that the filter was incorrectly fitted and this was noted at the time of removal and that in their expert opinion this has caused damage and wear to the the top of the engine then you "might" get somewhere. Without a report from Skoda I have a feeling that you won't get very far. If there is wear to the top of the engine it will be a complete new cylinder head (or refurbished 2nd hand) at a cost of ££££ or £££. The wear will be to the camshaft, followers, injectors etc. If the low oil pressure was sustained for a long period then the bottom of the engine might have suffered too.2 points

^^^ Guff on pessimistic on the 'budget brands' You buy a vehicle that has the official Max PS, & Max Nm Torque figures. You pays your money and what is shown as Max is actually Minimum that it will produce. Those are at the worst possible temps / weathers / hight above sea level in your world region or even globally on the fuel shown as the recommended minimum. So no way in the UK with Height above sea level the vehicle will be at no more than 3,500 ft, or ambient temps higher that 35*oC or lows below -27*oC on UK Fuels are the Official Figures optimistic. As we know VW Group will have a heavier VW or Audi with the same drivetrain as a Skoda or SEAT show the 'Premium Models' with better figures. Oddly or not so oddly. they VW Group were caught out with Implausible Co2 g/km with Euro 6 Petrol & Diesels in some VW, Audi & SEAT and Skoda were not. I have the CHPA engine & all the VAG documentation on these engines..& the self study guides which the dealers & techs for the most part don't read..... There are several water pumps, only one is part belt driven & NOT on the timing belt..on the other side on own belt so if the impellor jambs it will shred that belt & not the main timing belt...which was the reason for swapping the previous water pumps as the plastic impellor would separate off the brass /metal spindle... & according to VAG ERWIN servicing for June 2017 NO change on timing belts for UK condition.........CHPA engines....however others on MK7 Golf forum have reported that VW UK are now saying every 5yrs??....& yes these are "for life ultra durable belts in special sealed timing belt covers etc to keep more dust out....2 points

Skoda have generally been pretty decent at getting this tech out to people I think, the original fee was pretty reasonable and they don't even charge that now on new cars. Compare to someone like BMW who want (I think) nearly £250 for 3 years CarPlay, not even a permanent enable. As far as the Octavia 3 goes, yes. SmartLink is MirrorLink, Android Auto and CarPlay. Available on MY16 cars with the MIB2 head units (generally 65 plate onwards) as a paid upgrade for around £150, facelift vehicles all get it free from day one. Some other Skodas, Fabia maybe, had a brief period with units that just had the MirrorLink part, not Android Auto or CarPlay, the Octavia 3 didn't get those though. As @john999boy mentioned, any phone with Bluetooth should be able to connect ok to the head unit. Which Bluetooth features (profiles) the phone supports will vary but any modern smartphone should be ok making and receiving calls, or streaming music. MirrorLink, Android Auto and CarPlay all work via the USB cable. When you connect to CarPlay at least, the standard Bluetooth connection to your phone is disconnected until you unplug again. This means any phone calls or music streaming from your phone then come through the CarPlay interface, not the regular car Bluetooth interface. It's all quite logical once you are using it.2 points

I've seen photo's advertising petrol cars with a 5,000 redline tacho and diesel cars with a 7,000 redline tacho, clearly showing the wrong mileage on the wrong car, they get confused bless them!2 points

3 things to be bedded in properly; engine (modern engines have such tight tolerances), tyres (usually get them scrubbed in within 100 miles) and the brakes (high temperatures on new discs and pads causes no end of problems) My dealer advised me for the first 500 miles to drive it gently, so all the parts get seated together properly. The next 500 miles make sure the engine temperatures are all up before driving it with some enthusiasm..................and after a 1000 miles, the break in is done. I did notice when I first got the car, the engine braking was severe, but a few thousand miles it was as normal. The mpg did rise as well.2 points

Hello all, Today I bought my first Skoda, it had a Briskoda sticker on the rear window hence joining up here. 2015 Skoda Octavia VRS TDi with DSG, 1 previous owner. Seems to have lots of extras, think I’ll be happy with it. Will browse for best preventative maintenance and servicing tips. Cheers, Lee1 point

He can't if he has 256's, he'd need new hubs as well. OP if you have 256 mm front discs then they are FSIII calipers and you can find those on 1.4 16V petrols as well.1 point

Exactly..mind you his first "complaint" about the "R" when he bought it was the sound as "its not a 3lt straight six".... No **** Sherlock....but its just as fast & cheaper on the insurance, not in the top 10 for stolen UK cars (that's BMW) & you get better MPG.......mind you the new M40 will eat tyres & the fronts & rears are different sizes/widths....& the rears are huge on 20" rims (standard).....mind you I'll just keep winding him up with my car & the MPG I can get..& he knows how I drive (heavy right foot).....1 point

02Q and 02M are gearbox families, JLW is a gearbox code (which pins down the exact ratios inside, etc.). Google says it's part of the 02Q family, see on here for example: https://workshop-manuals.com/audi/a3_mk2/power_transmission/6-speed_manual_gearbox_02q_front-wheel_drive/technical_data/gearbox_identification/code_letters_allocation_transmission_ratios_capacities/1 point

IMHO, the digital dash is not worth paying for. Go to a VW dealer and have them show it to you. Then make up your mind if that is an advantage to you to have or not,1 point

Just ask to see the old filter which should still have the two seals fitted, one* in the sprung plastic carrier with the notches and another that sits on the metal can. *the one that can be left behind Tell them your request and concern before they service your car. Oh and congratulations on not naming this thread Hetty1 (again)1 point

I recall seeing dyno printouts on SEATCUPRA.NET of both a Leon Cupra 280 and a 290 which both produced ~300bhp, from the factory (on the same dyno). The power curve of the graph was practically the same too so the general consensus was the difference between the 280 and 290 Cupra was one number, on a badge and a nice little marketing exercise from SEAT. As @Offski has pointed out above, we in the UK are lucky to have climates/altitudes that offer induction engines the best chance to operate at their upper tolerances and max permissible performance; twinned with higher quality/octane fuels it's a recipe to get some % more than the (minimum possible) quoted manufacturers figures. Exactly why people who continually run their TSI engines on 95 Supermarket unleaded are quick to let you know they do and that it's never caused any issues and the car runs fine, etc etc. Well yes, it's designed to do that but it WILL RUN BETTER if you run higher octane fuels. Manufacturers don't produce region specific engines, they have to be able to operate at extremes and everything in between.1 point

In this PC world, we had a deaf guy turn up for an interview with his interpreter. Now that all seems fair, no issue with that as many deaf people can lip read etc. Its when you realise that 80% of the job was answering the phone you see the full futility of the situation.1 point

you say you were doing 8k miles a year. it would have to go up significantly to be worth changing to diesel. i run my vrs daily and do about 25k a year, varies with work but not sure even that mileage would benefit from being diesel v the cost of fuel. i wouldnt change fuel system, but thats me,1 point

Well, our rally finally finished last night in Monaco. My only frustration was being pelted by hail stones the size of table tennis balls resulting in a few dents in the bonnet. It's the first time I was in such a hailstorm and was genuinely scared that the windscreen or glass roof would give way. Half way up a mountain with no shelter... But on the positive side, we all finished and a general feeling of accomplishment was certainly felt. Here's my route: Over 2500km covered in a few days: Tomorrow, I'm installing three Tesla Destination Chargers for all to benefit from1 point

Well, in my country I had option to pay 15 euros for bigger fuel tank, I think standard is 60L but mine is about 70L. I can see that equipment list is little different in names but here Style Plus is just below L&K and it has a lot of standard like Colombus navigation with Europe maps, sunset, DAB, Front assist with adaptive cruise control up to 160km/h, 19" wheels and so on. I'm not sure that fuel tanks is identical as in UK, but who knows. @penguin17 I had 2009, 2.0tdi diesel, so I'm so excited about all technology and all the power i have on daily basis. Fuel consumption is well above diesel model, but you can handle it if you have a good self control, even below 7.5l/100km. I'm very happy with purchase and I'm gonna still post about it and stuff that I think is great and no so great because I'm driving it about a 150-200 km per day. Thank you all !1 point

Welcome. No need to worry, but you need to check if it required Service Campaign '34H5' which some 2013-2014/15 DQ200 DSG did. a software update. So check if it was required and was done, and check the cars Service & Warranty history. There might be a sticker beside the build sticker in the spare tyre well if done, there should be if done, so it will have '34H5' on it. http://skoda.co.uk/about-us/contact-us1 point

A number of firms who've promised investment are set to follow JLR in announcing publicly that these won't happen if we leave the EU. Considering how much of Mini production travels from the UK to the EU and back again several times (over 20) before a finished car rolls off the line, I can't believe BMW will keep Cowley going. I'd be cheaper to just import them from the EU1 point

A two year old car really shouldn't need regassing unless it has a leak. If it has a leak it shouldn't be regassed until the leak is fixed.1 point

What you're looking at is called "orange peel" imperfection. Your car was involved in an accident and some body shop did a poor job. It is human error. The solution is to polish the bumper with compound.1 point

Erm, what?! I've visited Mlada Boleslav and I didn't see anyone of those ethnicities or religions there. It was predominantly white, local people. Not just in the factories and plants but in the town outside it also. The Wikipedia stats for Czech Republic in 2011 show: Ethnic groups (2011[4]) 64% Czechs 26% unspecified 5% Moravians 1.4% Slovaks 0.4% Poles 3.2% other Religion 44.7% undeclared 34.5% non-religious 10.5% Catholic 2.1% other Christians 0.7% other religions If those ethnic and religious groups aren't in the Czech Republic in notable numbers, then the statistics would suggest it is also unlikely they are employed by Skoda and shown in a "propaganda" video. No far right agenda, just basics of the available population for the workforce.1 point

Buy a used MP3 Stream for about £40? Buy a 3.5mm jack plug and pins and use the Aux in with your phone or MP3 player. I do this though I suspect a pin has dropped out at one channel buzzes with no output.1 point

Also managed to do a top speed run on the autobahn - and the wheel trims stayed on With the 5 speed box that's all she could do, nothing more to give.. She does struggle with engine temps on full load runs a bit. It's something that's being looked into but cools down quickly again when driving a bit more "normal"1 point

I'm not sure we can blame glass area or size. My wife's new S-Max has much more glass (and volume) than my Superb but her air con makes the car cold enough to hurt my (arthritic) hands within a couple of minutes. Meanwhile in the Superb I'm still sweating and wishing the bloody thing worked better. It does get there in the end, but efficient and very cold are two things it isn't.1 point

There ARE several walkthroughs and spreadsheets available on several forums, however many of these are no longer updated due to issues with people using them with hacked software or different types of software and then running into problems. Those who have bought genuine VCDS tend not to help those with hacked versions as they want to protect their investment, who will roll out the free updates if Ross-Tech decided to cease trading because the revenue coming in no longer covered the R&D costs for updated software (they buy and hire new cars for this reason). Nobody is forcing you to buy a genuine interface (or any interface at all) but pleaseeeeee do not come on here or other forums and bitch when you do not get free support.1 point

Love it regardless of others opinions. I wanted one before getting a Fabia Twincharger, even ordered one, but Audi did not want to build a A1 195ps 1.4 TFSI with the free option of no sport suspension and the dealer could not believe i wanted 16" or 17" wheels but no 18's. Great interiors IMO, and good comfort with the right suspension and tyres for the UK.1 point
