  1. Got a nice wee surprise yesterday when my drivers window stopped working. Obviously a very common problem according to google searches and reading previous posts, My questions being...…If repaired, What's the majority of people do? Replace the whole door loom for it to happen again? or Crimp or solder? Thanks!
  2. As daft as it sounds, There’s not one other platform that uses our vents, you get the golf R stealth vents but no chance they’ll fit, I’d maybe even buy a spare vent and try mock one up yourself? I thought about sticking a gauge below the stereo, kind of above the cup holders but then you lose the cup holders and these cars ain’t got much luxury as it is 😂. I’ve got to the stage ai can have the front bumper off in about 10 minutes, can’t count the amount of times I’ve swore trying to get the furthest in bolt on the bumper brackets on each side, Need to hire a midget to fit in there.
  3. Left a post on the mk2 Fabia Vrs Facebook page and a few bodys have had the same problem, If I Can find a cheap door loom I’ll fit it and wrap those wires up properly, other wise it’s getting attacked with crimps and tape.I've got the intercooler from Rtmg, Being brutally honest it’s just a chinese intercooler Rebranded and sold on, but it’s done me for £80 I paid for it. I’m liking those quick release brackets for the bumper, they solid? I see one button for the meth on/off....what’s the other orange switch for ? Hats off to to you, some amount of work.
  4. I’m in Scotland my man, Hopefully get to one of the R-TMG Days out in the future, Christos came upto a scotland and mapped mine and a few other cars in November, Can’t speak of him highly enough. My FMIC is cracked and leaking boost and the Fabia decided to present me with another great surprise earlier......
  5. 5w40 or 5w30 will work fine mate.
  6. Oil & filter -Absolute canter as the oil filters right in front of you as you open the bonnet, circled below, Only issue is the alternators below the filter, cover the alternator with an old rag or paper towel when removing the old filter to reduce the chance of dripping oil into your alternator. Usual process when replacing the new filter, run your finger round the seal with a bit of engine oil before screwing back on. Oil - 14mm sump plug on underside of the engine, Should have a metal washer on it, Sometimes rubber. Should be located more to the passenger side so jack up the car from the Near side(drivers) front wheel and this will ensure you've got a good angle to drain and no oil/debris are left in the bottom of the sump, Again check the condition of the washer and decide if you need a new one or not. Air filter - Unscrew the airbox and have a look, see what condition the air filter is in and decide from there. Pollen filter - Yep same again, Access above the passenger footwell, have a look but this isn't essential for an mot. Spark plugs - All depends if you knew when they were last changed? Again not essential unless the cars showing symptom's of them needing replaced, ie misfiring or the ones installed have been in too long, If unsure take them out and check, bolt size is M14X1.5X22 (16mm socket)and they should have crush washers on them, The spark plugs are NGK IZFR6P7 Iridiums, or VAG PN 03F 905 600, gapped at 0.8-0.1mm. You can also buy a plug puller for a few quid off bay/amazon if your struggling to release the plug from the coil. Tighten until you hear an audible crack(crush washer). Fuel filter - Located in front of your drivers side rear wheel(follow the fuel lines). Simple to replace, although messy. Again unless signs of any issues most people will never change it until it breaks, Cheap enough to replace, As @Roottootemblowinootsoot mentioned, Everything else is really visual inspection, Brake pads, Tyre wear etc, If you have the car on ramps or axle stands at any point at all give all moving parts like anti roll bar, drop links, wheels etc a quick shake by hand to see if there's any play. I've seen too many incidents of garages claiming to fit service parts and don't bother, serviced my own for the last 15+ years. People will argue the point of service history however in my personal opinion "service history" means absolutely nothing in this day and age.
  7. Nice one mate! I know of a few folks running meth now on our engines but all been a ball ache to set up , You gonna need to head back to RTMG to get the maps set up for meth?
  8. Brilliant, Quite a few people will be interested in your posts mate, The DSG has always been a horror for people whether it’s the Box, clutch or mech that goes. Then to be told the tools to remove the clutch cost nearly a grand, I even began to panic. Have you worked on any DSG boxes before? You seem to be quite knowledgable or have you ended up on a YouTube/Google journey like I did and decide to have a go yourself.
  9. Ahhh get you now! Yeah mate I'm not scared to get my hands dirty if it comes to it. .
  10. absolute legend! n terms of using Odis or VCDS.....Is it just to clear the fault codes or is there ay programming involved? I priced up clutch packs at £380 before however will keep an eye out on GSF, To think in the 3 years I've owned mine I've seen people pay £3500 for a clutch and new mechatronic unit from the dealers or a bit less from an independent garage. To think you can do it yourself for under £600 is absurd, Id rather give it a go before paying someone else £3k. Again many thanks, I watched & watched YouTube convincing myself I could drop the box out and give this a go, That's me made up my mind, first sign of clutch slip and I'm stripping that box out.
  11. Thanks again bud, I looked at buying the whole kit for like £400. Sorry if I have misread your first post but how did you measure the clearance so that its 0,3 – 1,0 mm without the gauge as below - Thanks again!
  12. Might be giving you a message for a loan of the tools LOL!
  13. I purchased my fabia in Poole, Not far from you, Lovely part of the country.
  14. Excellent mate, Thanks for that that's some good info. I think I've watched every YouTube video going on the DQ200 and mech unit going, I'm 100% tackling it myself. What did you end up setting the clutch tolerance at as I know there's a threshold that must be stuck too, Obviously the more power you run you set the tolerance lower to avoid clutch slip and did you install the modified selector fork available? Thanks Michael
  15. Excellent mate! I’ll be doing mine myself If I can get a hold of the tools(To adjust the clutch tolerance), Are you a mechanic by trade? I’ve had many an argument on how easy it actually is to change a clutch pack when the box is out, A good Vag mechanic should change the clutch in less than 30-45 mins if they have experience. Again when I first joined here I seen people paying 3 grand upwards for mech units and clutches to be fitted, Just another reason for staying away from a dealership as the job can be done for well less than a grand these days when a clutch pack can be purchased or £370 and generally you can repair the mech unit for less than under £100.
  16. Cheers mate, Need to win the lottery to make it as fast as I want.
  17. Only a week before did I decided to get off my arse and do Scotland's Nc500, 500 miles in a turbo/supercharged fabia combi on scenic long roads by myself? Hell yeah! Sorry for the picture overload, I've kept the pictures as low quality as possible to try not kill your browsers. Lets have it! Loaded up the fabia will fuel and essentials and headed off, My first 3 hours would be spent just getting to the start at Inverness. Reached Inverness In no time and proceeded up the east coast of Scotland while visiting a few places on the way before reaching my accommodation( Bower Wig Wams) in Wick Dunrobin Castle, Golspie Second day seen me travel the whole breadth of the North of Scotland form east to west, I've seen most of Scotland before but this place will stick in my memories forever and I seen my first puffin! As you travel from east to west the beaches and views only get better. Dunnet Bay, Thurso. 2 miles of pure white and aqua blue water.....Best beach in Britain in my opinion. As you make your way across the north coast through the Bay of Tongue and towards Durness the beaches continue to be as spectacular however the landscape get a bit more rugged. Ardvreck castle from above Decided to camp up on Balnakiel Beach for the night, Had the whole beach to myself...... To my surprise I woke up to the sun splitting the sky and some visitors.......Yep its 7am and the cows are crossing the beach to reach a fresh water stream, Apparently a daily occurrence Leaving Durness Your pretty much in the most north westerly point in the UK, Visited a few places before heading south down the west coast and entering Wester Ross(Game of thrones fans will grin). Smoo Cave The landscape changes dramatically on the west coast, Huge rolling mountains start to appear as I headed south towards Ullapool,Gairloch and Applecross. After staying in Ullapool for the night I was off sharp in the morning for another spectacular drive south west, Passing the Kylesku bridge and hotel for some well needed grub! From here I continued south through Wester Ross at which point he NC500 heads to Applecross then Back to Inverness, I went off track and headed home via Skye, Fort WIlliam and Glencoe When reaching Applecross you encourter the "Bealach Na Ba" mountain pass, Regarded as one of if not the best roads in Britain with views of the Isle of Skye to the West and The mountain pass on the other. Deciding I could probably be home for midnight I cut my last day short and blasted the 6 hour journey home passing "Eilean donan castle" and the might " Buchaille Etive Mor" mountain in Glencoe. So nearly 3 tanks of fuel and 960 miles later I made it home, Car was awesome, Weather was awesome and the scenery was even better! Would highly recommend anyone to head up north and just do it, The road conditions are perfect and if you get the weather......I don't think may places in the world could top it. I'll hopefully have a drone vid posted up soon. Thanks for reading.
