This usually means the engine is running rich (diesel) or very rich (petrol). I'd start by changing the air filter element, oh and not using full throttle below about 2_000 rpm.

Dunno for sure but if the oil level is good I'd suspect a bunged up oil pickup, which is a sump off job to confirm and cure if I'm right.

Your other possibility is that the drains through the back edges of the front arches are choked.

No, that's a header (or footer) tank. There is no coolant flow through a shroud. It's just a screen that flows all air that flows over the radiator fins through the fan. Please note that a thermostat does more that just "stop water going to the radiator when the engine is cold", it also controls the coolant flow when the engine is hot, and perverse as this sounds removing the thermostat doesn't always give you more cooling although it will probably give you a longer/slower warmup.
