  1. Each to their own. 🤷‍♂️
  2. Isn't 5 enough? Anymore and it will be very cluttered and hard to read and select.
  3. It sounds like a camera failure is imminent. I had it a few times, then it started slamming the brakes on as if it were going to collide with something that wasn't even there or near. Then it started saying traffic sign recognition failure, front assist failure, adaptive cruise not available, high beam assist failure and kept going on and on and on.... Took it to the dealer who had it for a week and it was only when they replaced the camera and updated several significant bits of software on the car did it cease. They accused me of tampering with the camera and assist systems, which I haven't done. But since they updated everything, I've had only one spurious warning like this, which could have been a bird or something that I didn't see, no spurious emergency braking and no other issues with the car, apart from one spurious oil warning, had it checked and found nothing wrong. Still hate it though, don't trust it one iota.
  4. Look at it this way The 1.6 is better for pottering about, doesn't have too much grunt and is more for for those people who consider economy/range over performance. The 2.0 is better for performance, has the grunt for quick overtakes and combines it with a slightly lower economy and range. Maybe a little bit quieter as you won't have to rev it so hard. It also seems to be more suited to the DSG box than the 1.6 having read some of the comments by other posters in the past. I know if I had to choose between the two it would be the 2.0 and DSG, I don't think I will ever be able to make the return to a manual gearbox again, they're just too good and easy to use.
  5. Try a rubber mallet and a broomstick, put the end of the broomstick against the caliper and then whack the other end with the mallet, it solved the issue on a VW Passat.
  6. Go to the dealer, they should be able to look up all of the parts applicable to your car via the VIN and order appropriately.
  7. Yep. Replacement of the whole unit, whilst is going to be initially more expensive, it's more cost effective in the long term as you won't have a recurring fault.
  8. My infotainment system does exactly that, asks me for a line number, however the voice control is so 5h17, that I tend to use the voice control on my mobile which does it almost perfectly.
  9. Quick question. Fuses 29/51 on a petrol 245 RS, does they do anything as they're for Adblue and are they switched by the ignition? I seem to recall that other one's to use are 47 (rear wiper) and ????, I'm thinking of having a go at doing the job myself.
  10. It would probably best to change the whole unit, because once the moisture/water is in there you'll never get rid of it entirely and it could cause damage to the electrical system too. Also by law of sod and averages, it'll short out and lose the headlight(s) at the most inconvenient time such as heavy rain, fog or night, which is not only dangerous, but probably illegal a likely to attract the unwanted attention of the police. 👮‍♂️
  11. I suppose I did get a result in one way, in that I used a work benefits scheme (Xclusives) and got 10% off the camera and hardwiring kit. Got a voucher for the full price, however I only paid £242, so in essence I got the hardwiring kit for nothing and a few off the camera too. It beat the cashback websites by a mile. I only got it from the black and orange motoring store because if it goes wrong it's easy to take it back to the store. Now just got to find a place who can fit it for me.
  12. TBQH with the state of radio in the UK, you're missing nothing.
  13. Didn't the OP try Skoda Fixed Price Servicing I know my next service should be a freebie again, but the 3rd won't be, although hopefully it'll be gone by then.
  14. Yeah I agree with that sentiment. The problem I have is two fold. 1. I'm used to driving at odd times when no one's about, this has been even more evident than usual thanks to Covid, where roads have been empty even at when "normals" would be about and it's too easy to forget about the limit. 2. Now they're starting to get back behind the wheel, they've forgotten just about everything and fail to realise that others are about and do stupid things like forget red lights, illegal turns etc. They're also driving like Miss Daisy, which is driving those of us who haven't been affected by lock down and been driving throughout mad by trundling along at silly low speeds like 20 or 30 in 40+ area's like dual carriageways or the A3! 😡😡😡 What I'm finding really really annoying is I bought a Nextbase 612GW and hardwire kit a while ago and put it somewhere safe and it's so safe I can't find it anywhere! 😠😖
  15. Meanwhile I got a new toy... Got a Sandisk 128gb high performance U3 card from Amazon for £19 to go with it, not paying the rip off price that Nextbase want for their own cards of lower capacity.
  16. It's a odd thing, it's like a flight or train data recorder, it'll be your saviour and save you if you're right, but try wriggling and BSing your way out, it will be your executioner. The problem being is that (from what I have been told) most insurance companies want (or insist) that the speed is displayed on the footage at all times in case of any incident.
  17. It's a drain for the fuel filler so if you're filling up and the trigger kicks in a fuel spurts back or overflows slightly it'll go into the catchment and down the drain pipe and it will drip out next to the wheel below it. If it's a little blocked then use a pipe cleaner or use a high pressure air can which you use on a PC motherboard with its fine straw and give it a blast with that.
  18. Maybe just your unit, return it under warranty if possible. I want the 622GW as it has what3words built into it.
  19. You mean townies, in particular the ever whinging Londoners, the same inept individuals who buy 4x4s/SUVs and live in a city. Yeah righto. Faux safety lobbyists, faux environmentalists. Faux/Pseudo friends.
  20. I won't be! Nor will I be buying a hybrid RS Octavia either with its pathetic 32 miles on electric. Utterly pointless.
  21. I can drive at least 2½-2¾ hrs non stop, if I have a stop it's just 5 or 6 mins (less if it's in lay-by and in bushes) for a pee, then away again. No longer. Time is money unless I'm on leave. I refuse to pay extortionate prices at motorway/petrol stations for food and drink. I might get an hour at the final destination, I literally sip water en route and again it maybe a 5 mins stop for a pee on the way back. I'm used to driving distances and sustained levels of concentration as I'm a train driver, I don't have the attention span of a goldfish office "worker".
  22. Well when they can do a safe 350+ miles on a single charge (which is what Ican get out of a tank of petrol on my RS), have loads of ultra fast charging points across the country that can give a very significant charge in a very short time say 5 mins (broadly similar to filling up with fuel) and great performance, then I'll consider it. Until such time I'll pass.
  23. Anyone got the Nextbase 622GW? Also does it have the capability to link in a rear camera like the 522GW?
  24. Still wouldn't want one. Not enough charge points and it takes too long to charge, like I said I'm not adding anywhere between 10 and 60mins to my overall journey time, when I can do a refuel (to get me home) in 3-4 mins. It's simply no contest. It might be OK for tree hugging townies who want to jump on the environmental bandwagon for show and placate their green buddies. (Faux environmentalists) 🙄 There's already too many Chelsea Tractors around and yuppies who we don't want or need.
  25. OK, who's going to pay for a cable run of 15m or so from our house (G2 listed) to the garage under a footpath (paved) and into the garage or carport and who's paying for the high power ultra fast charger? How much is this all going to cost? I would suspect at least £2k, if not more.
