  1. Good point, unless there's a manual override to the gearbox. I had to use it two weeks ago when my car had to be towed away (non startable due to smashed oil sump) and for two of us it was quiet easy to do by putting it in N, without it I don't see how you can do it, as you're going to be fighting the gearbox & engine.
  2. Yeah. I've got a MY 19. Due to change late this year, not keen on the switch arrangement. Like I said my existing car has N which I use at lights with the handbrake (I hate electric parking brakes too), so I don't dazzle the driver behind. I don't know what my next car will be yet. I'd like to think that it'll be a Mk4, however with the way I feel about the existing car and all of the glitches and issues that other drivers are having with it, it has put doubts in my mind.
  3. If you could choose any colour for your order what would it be? I like Race Blue, but would like a different one like this purple! Or a really nice deep metallic red. Skoda's idea of a metallic red is a bit of a joke, when you compare it to the red's of Peugeot or Mazda.
  4. I like having a N position, it allows me to put the car there whilst sitting at lights or traffic and not keeping my foot on the brake pedal which means dazzling the driver behind.
  5. Personally I just bought pro level GPS speedo software for my phone and bring it online when I'm in SPECS camera areas, areas where I know that the local plod regularly do speed traps. I now know that IIRC when my speedo is showing 73 it's actually doing ~70.2 mph really and that's confirmed using a Garmin Sat Nav too.
  6. If you can't do this basic maintenance then you really shouldn't be behind the wheel of a car, let alone own one.
  7. Not going to have the General Lee horns then?
  8. Without wanting to seen to be a creep, if Sasha doesn't know then it would have to be a dealer thing. TBQH I find it quite odd that you can't put into the infotainment system the size of your tyres, so that you get a correct calibration on your mileage and speed readings.
  9. All above board, just very sneaky. 🥸
  10. Or do a deal for £49,999.99
  11. This is the one for mine. https://www.sump-guard.co.uk/steel-sump-guard-for-the-protection-of-the-engine-and-the-gearbox-for-skoda-octavia-3-automatic-gearbox £149. Might have to get this next month, just need someone with a set of ramps so I can get it fitted.
  12. That might reduce the amount of clearance under the car and consequently risk grounding on things like speed humps which you would normally clear with ease. However it maybe worth it.
  13. Yep. Mine was. I don't know what they're replacing it with. Hopefully with a metal one.
  14. At the end of the day, if I declare it, they cannot accuse me of being dishonest and cannot penalise for that. Yes, I know that in all likelihood that my insurance will go up, I accept that fact. My insurance policy is fully comprehensive and covers accidental damage, so it's covered. What I object to is people saying that I knew that my car was significantly damaged and I drove it knowingly so. I DID NOT. Also if the car's management system is so bloody clever why did it not flag up the fault immediately? Instead it only told me that my engine oil system was seriously compromised when I reached a hill when I was almost home, where, when I parked it, it continued to drop a good 1½ litres of oil on my drive? It has to be asked why are they using a plastic sump? It should be metal as it's exposed to all sorts of conditions, stone chips etc. 💩 design.
  15. I wasn't aware of any issues regarding the oil system until I was about 500-600 yards from home, the stupid car never alerted me to any issues until I was on a hill, then it was a simple case of letting the car coast down hill and part of the way up the next one. So don't put words in my mouth. I have been honest and 100% truthful about the incident. I'm expecting an increase in my insurance as I do each year. Anyway when I spoke to a technician about it he was just as surprised as I was that it didn't alert me sooner. I've never known a car to do such a thing, the last one instantly alerted me when I didn't put the oil filler cap back on properly! Like I said, if they say it needs a new engine then I'll bring in an independent engineer to confirm it, but as I haven't got £8k for a new engine it'll go off to the scrapyard and bloody good riddance IMO.
  16. So I. I miss the grunt of my RS. But I'm afraid that I'm thinking that this may well be my last Skoda, I'm looking at the BMW 128Ti and thinking that's very nice. I don't need an Octavia sized car anymore, this one has been a RPITA with all of its faults and now this (OK, my fault for thinking it was an empty builders bag), just need to raise £11k for financing the new one.
  17. I notified my insurance company, so it's done, as I also needed a hire car to get around and that comes with my insurance policy. No date for start or completion yet either. Still I got a nice Nissan Qasqai which is a bit gutless, but very comfortable.
  18. Oh yeah, I appreciate that, my insurance has increased year on year and I pay that little extra to protect my NCB, which is a bit like robbing Peter to pay Paul. But if the worst comes to the worst, then I won't lose my NCB completely, I will still have some left.
  19. I pay extra to protect my NCB, it does transfer between insurance companies I know that as I've transferred it in the past, including when I cancelled a policy mid term after Lloyd's Bank insurance tried to wriggle out of a claim, got a ruling against them via the ombudsman (I had to concede 2 years NCB). If they don't pay then the car will be scrapped.
  20. Got 10 years protected NCB. It probably will go up as I'm due a new car in the next year. TBQH I'll be glad to see the back of this car, it seems to be absolutely jinxed. From electrical and OBC gremlins to this. Haven't decided what it'll be yet, Skoda, BMW, VW, Jaguar are all possibilities.
  21. You've got to have a laugh nowadays, otherwise we're all going to go (ok too late in shyVRS245's case) completely mad. 🥸🤡
  22. Just got the excess to pay £350. So it's at least a £445 saving doing it via insurance.
  23. It's going to be an insurance job... £795! That's if the engine isn't damaged, apparently it was running for a few miles without any oil in it, as the oil was sprayed from front to back, also it has done minor damage to the front lower spoiler too. If its damaged the engine, then £7895 for a new one! But I think that will be Lookers trying it on and I'll be having an independent assessment done to make sure.
