  1. Next time try sending a simple email outlining the problems. Instead of what seems like loads of text messages. You both end up confusing each other. Certainly seems like that to me as you at times start talking over each other, so to speak. Plus if you know it's the wrong part and has the wrong buttons, you don't go and fit it. If he asked you to jump off a cliff, would you? You explain simply and politely in an email. No wonder he eventually said he hasn't got time for it. Most others would have said the same thing, their phone beeping every minute with another message containing a few words.
  2. I have heard, but not sure from where. The premium fuels are only designed to give better milleage on petrol vehicles, as they have a higher cetane rating. For diesels the premium fuels aren't designed to give improved mileage. It's mainly to keep the engine etc cleaner. Meant to help the DPF as well. Of course, a side effect of this is probably slightly better milleage, but that isn't the initial point of premium diesel.
  3. Don't update the Sat nav. Easy. It doesn't make that much difference. Even if you do find a road layout slightly different to what is displayed on the Sat nav, the chances are the update wouldn't have helped. Anyway, very few layouts change so much that a bit of common sense wouldn't do the trick.
  4. Similar to my experiences. First Skoda. Generally very good car but with things that let it down. The cheapo suspension definitely the main one. Door cards could also be a little nicer. Amundsen is pretty good on the whole. If you want unresponsive, try the new Jag system (not the pro version). Arrrgggghhhh!! Still, Amundsen could be slightly better. I suppose thats where Columbus comes in! The thinness of the paint job is another poor part. Scratches and paint chips are impossible to avoid. Road noise isnt brilliant on anything but the best surfaces (upon which it turns silent), but this is like pretty much all cars within the same price bracket. Plus points- As with all Skoda's, its a pleasant well laid out interior. Nothing too in your face. Looks arent anything too shabby either. Only Jags and Astons top it. Its a nice effortless drive (well, apart from that suspension), which is pretty comfy (until a family member reminds you of the harsh ride, which is annoying as id gotten used to it). I actually think its more fun to drive than a lot of people give it credit for.as well, and it hasnt missed a beat in over 2yrs. Plus probably the best bit about the car. The absolute peach of an engine. Amazing. Quick, and well mated with the gearbox. Plenty of oomph when you put your foot down, but also a slow coach if you so desire it to be. Oh, and it sounds just like an engine is meant to sound. Yep, the 2.0TDI. Gorgeous! Would I get another Skoda. Well, Id have no reason to get another Octy III as I already have a top notch one. The Superb isnt really for me. Dont like the specs. Anyway, I've decided its time to keep up with the Timoctav's of the world. Its time to go a little sporty. I hear the XE calling!!
  5. Yep, my car is earlier than yours. Late 2013 build. However if it transpires your car already has updated seals, then the dealer should tell you this. I had this when i questioned the harsh ride of the Octy. Dealer i went to looked into ordering the revised shocks (which did exist despite what SUK said to some). However it transpired my car already had the revised shocks, and this is what was said to me. I have no doubt the revised seals do exist, despite what SUK say. Based on a few instances mentioned on here, with regards to seals and other problems, I get the impression if you go direct to SUK you are shafted, and are blacklisted from then on. You need to go via a dealer, and keep looking until you find a decent dealer. Most of the time it seems if you go direct to SUK they deny everything, and once they have denied it first time, they always deny it, and your name is then highlighted if you try and go via a dealer afterwards. A few have had luck by going via SUK, but they seem to be a lucky few who have dealt with someone decent. Get the wrong person to start with, and you may as well kiss goodbye to ever getting it sorted.
  6. I was asked if it affected rear doors as well, but i said i didnt think so. So only fronts were replaced. So whether they have replacements for rears or not, I cant say for certain. Sorry
  7. Did the phone start smelling from all the **** coming through it by any chance? How does it take until the day before to realise the seals they had ordered dont actually exist? That would have been obvious the moment you tried to order them. Anyway, new seals do exist. More than one person on here has had them fitted, myself included. Now perhaps SUK have realised the new seals don't actually solve the problem. In which case say so. Dont make up a load of bull. Your dealer is lying through their back teeth, and i'd be straight round kicking up a massive stink. Oh, and naming and shaming them.
  8. Late response, but I got my seals replaced at nearly 2yrs old.
  9. Which supposed cheat is affecting yours? The NoX cheat or this apparent CO2 cheat. Reason being, the Mk3 has a different engine to the engine type we keep hearing about. Dont think ive heard of any Mk3s having been affected yet.
  10. Taking into account where I spent around 6 happy years growing up, its you thats the southerner!!! I never pick on the north. Only Sheffield Unfortunately where i live not only do we not have fibre optic (unless you go with some unknown entity that the village gave a fibre optic contract to), but our normal broadband is also incredibly slow, and getting slower. Even the fibre optic we do have is only fibre optic up until the village main exchange, and then it runs off normal BT wires, so wouldnt be too sure that will be very fact fibre either. Perhaps if the village hadnt given this silly contract to an unknown entity, BT may have been more willing to install full fibre optic.
  11. At the time no, it was a good reason not to update, as it seemed as though updates made no difference (not new roads not on a newly updated satnav). However I have just noticed this time round (as you have now just mentioned) that the updates arent exactly new. That would make a lot of sense, and something i wasnt aware of until today. So yes, knowing that, it would make sense to keep updating. However, you also have to take into account that I am stuck with a 10hr download time. Is it surprising I just couldnt be bothered before? Anyway, all is well this time. It eventually downloaded and the Sat Nav is working just fine. Next time I will set my laptop so that it doesnt go into sleep mode, and let it go overnight again.
  12. It isnt. One of the reasons I havent bothered any updates since the first time, is because I noticed errors soon after downloading it. Roads not appearing on Sat Nav that werent exactly brand new.
  13. Only 40mins to go. Not convinced it will work, as the download stopped an hour back claiming it had failed. Luckily it let me just carry on, and it seemed to be OK. Doesnt fill me with confidence that it will work once on the SD card though. This just reminds me why I never bothered updating the Sat Nav after the first time.
  14. Left it downloading over night but laptop went into standby and it stopped. Carried on this morning. Still around 7hrs to go then. That's the problem when everything is designed for the fastest internet available. Here we have the slowest internet around barring the old dial up.
  15. Well having decided not to bother updating it the last couple of times, I will give it a go this time. Only 10hrs to download. Up from 9hrs when i first started. See you on the other side.
  16. Nice? Would be boring if every country was exactly the same. Also, there was benefit to Sweden changing. For the UK there is no benefit. In fact, the opposite. We would be driving on the different side of the road to a country we border. Ie Ireland. The reason Sweden changed is the reason we shouldn't. An awful lot of cost for no benefit
  17. I was tempted to put a sign in my rear window. 'Beware, diesel car. I am responsible for killing everybody in my wake'
  18. Am I the only one to laugh at some of the consumption figures given on here for the petrol. Both ACT and conventional. You arent just in diesel territory, you make the diesel seem thirsty. Some of the figures claimed recently actually beat the official diesel figures. Sorry, I really cannot believe that.
  19. So does this mean we will shortly have very few new cars being sold? We will pretty much be left with electric and that's it. When it first came out that cheat devices were fitted to what is a minority of diesel vehicles sold worldwide, taking all diesel vehicles into the equation, a few people tried claiming that would be the end of diesel. Now we find that a minority of petrols may be affected in a CO2 scandal, assuming VW have been up to something similar. So based on some people's previous comments regarding diesel , I can only assume this means the end of petrol?
  20. The super fuels can make a difference power and economy wise on petrols. especially economy. I've experienced it and so have others.
  21. Isn't it more like a thorough Skoda advert? They even admit to Skoda asking them to make the video. After 3 parts I have yet to see a single negative point mentioned, of which I know some exist. Sorry, that wasn't a fair review. It was an in depth advert for the Superb. Yes it was quite good in that respect, but don't get the two mixed up.
  22. It all depends whatever suits your driving. For some an electro petrol will be an awful idea and use more fuel. For others it will be a perfect choice. As for cost, adding in the 5k Grant is skewing it slightly. That could be removed at any time, plus the real cost is still high. What is the list price of the car? That is the best measure of car costs. Yes you may get that reduced, and the government may be nice to you, but originally it was an expensive car. Oh, and some people do pay list price thanks.
  23. It seems to be quite random. For example, I dont have the problem on a 63 plate Elegance hatchback manual. But some Elegance models do suffer from it. Likewise other trims are a bit hit and miss.
  24. Ive got zero guilt as it is :-) I am quite happy in the knowledge that im killing everybody in site by driving a diesel!! Plus I refuse to drive around London as it is busy enough as it is so I dont add to the particulates and NoX above London. That would be the only thing id feel bad about.
