Start Stop Issues after new battery
Whilst I agree that it would be best to do it if you have the means, the car will surely recognise pretty quickly that the battery is different & restart the adaptation itself. Charging or changing the battery is a pretty common task that many will do themselves & im sure VW would take account of this in the software? Particularly in the case of the OP, battery coding shouldn't cause the problems he is reporting. Even if the coding was wrong, I'm sure the car will charge the battery even if the charging profile is perhaps not optimal for the type. As the battery was changed at a battery specialist, it's perhaps worth asking them to check the coding as you suggest which they should know how to do. I'd be also asking them to check the battery connections, battery voltage & alternator output to try to discount them from the cause.

Firmware updates questions
Another reason to get an OBD11 kit... Is there a changelog anywhere for the issues fixed by each new firmware version? I have had a problem for the last 10 years with my Octavia MIB1 Columbus that at start-up it forgets which song was playing & always starts from the first track on the SD card. It's been updated 3 times by the dealer but none of the updates corrected the problem. I know there are several others with the same problem so was hoping that eventually it would be solved.

Winter Wheel Pictures & Recommendations
I've emailed Borbet customer service to ask why they are certified differently. Their first reply was yes V has ABE+ECE and the Y only has ABE certification. I responded to ask them "why" the Y doesn't have ECE certification. I've tried to find the relevant information on nonOEM tyres officially in Switzerland but I need to compare the type approval on the cars registration form (when the car is first registered) against the wheel certificate info. I'll ask my colleague for his approval code & post back when I've compared it. Gabbo

Start Stop Issues after new battery
I replaced like for like batteries on my mk3 Octavia without coding & stop-start was working within 500m of the first drive. I noticed no problems with charging since then. A good software should be able to recognise quickly the behaviour of a new battery and relearn. I'd expect the coding to be more useful if you change the type or capacity. If the car occasionally doesn't start but starts well some time later I'd suspect a bad connection on the battery or perhaps a ground terminal.

Start Stop Issues after new battery
When you try to restart what happens? The starter turns the engine but the engine doesn't start? Nothing at all? Do you have the normal dash lights when trying to start? Have you checked that the battery terminals are tightening correctly?

Start Stop Issues after new battery
I don't suppose you know what kind of battery was fitted before? AGM or EFB? And how many AH it was? You only need to recode the battery if you change the type of size of the battery. If the coding is wrong it will mean that perhaps the stop start might not stop the car when it could do. It shouldn't mean that the engine won't start unless there is another problem. Without understanding why you changed the battery in the first place it's difficult to suggest a cause. Did you have warning messages I the dash saying "battery low" or were you having problems starting before?

Current Factory Delivery Times
Thanks, I saw your other post about your new order & 20 week delivery time. When I ordered my superb, the guy brought out the usual printout (dated april 23) showing 6 month delays for 4x4 transmissions so the only commitment date he would write on the contract was Jan 2024. My colleague ordered pretty much the same car as mine in april (but petrol instead of diesel) & they told him 6months lead time because of the 360 camera modules. I dropped into the dealer last week to ask about wheel prices & after a month there was still no VIN or preliminary build date from the dealer bit I'm still hopeful for a delivery around October...

Is the battery dead?
Just a quick update for anyone arriving at this topic at a later date. My car has been through the Skoda garage twice since the battery change. for an annual service & brake change & there were no complaints or comments from the dealer about DTCs or requests for battery recoding. So I'd say, if you change like for like the software will "learn" quickly the new behaviour of the battery & doesn't cause any problems.

Timing belt shenanigans
On the Octavia (and I'd guess the Superb as well ?) there is an electronically controller sleave on the water pump. When the engine is cold, the sleave is closed & the water pump circuits water round the internal engine circuit only (for faster warm-up). As the engine coolant temperature increases, the sleave should be opened slowly to blend the cold coolant in the reservoir & radiator with the hot engine coolant (better for emissions & prevents that drop of temperature when the wax thermostats pop open) On the Octavia, the sleave would get "stuck" for a short time because of different expansion rates of metal & plastic causing a coolant temperature warning. As the temperature of the components equalised it would pop open & everything would return to normal. However, Skoda were offering the change under warrenty & or with a good-will contribution of 50-60% for people out of warrenty. They replaced it with a new part with the same materials to prevent the expansion problem.

Current Factory Delivery Times
Does anyone know the current Superb factory delivery times? A colleague ordered a Sportline 280 which arrived a month ago after approx 12 weeks (contract to dealer). When I ordered a month ago they told me it would likely to be Jan 24 which I assume was just the standard "6 months" reply like my Octavia. I was hoping for Sept/Oct.... 🤞

Timing belt shenanigans
Assume this was a similar issue to the Octavia 2L TDi where the water pump sticks closed due to different expansion rates to between the metal sleave & plastic parts? My Octavia is at ~210k km & I'm assuming the "original" timing belt. My dealer recommended to change it at the last service but I rejected as I said I'd had the water pump changes around 120k km as a "warranty repair" & they would have changed the timing belt at the same time. However, the dealer couldnt find any reference to the change in the system. I'll probably get in done in the new year during the service. should be around 230k & 10 years young by then.

I'm not sure its so extreme that the police will ask you for the documentation at roadside. But here in Switzerland when you take you car for the equivalent of the MOT, they will check the wheel dimensions & tyre sizes conform to the manufacturer homologated sizes. With my Octavia I ordered the wrong offset by mistake ET45 instead of ET48 but I've been lucky that in the almost 10 years of ownership, I've been called for a check only once & it was during summer time so the OEM wheels were fitted. The Borbets are really top of my list at the moment for the price.. Just waiting for a delivery date before knowing when I need to jump for the winters.

I found here an english explanation of the difference between ABE & ECE approval certification: Better safe than sorry! | DEZENT (dezent-wheels.com) However, it doesnt explain why the Borbet Y with exactly the same dimensions as V has only ABE but not ECE approval when they appear to be exactly the same spec.

These actually look really good & from my preferred website PneuExperte.ch they are 124CHF each (7.0 ET40 R17) The Borbet Ys are 142CHF each Do you understand why the Borbet V is given TuV "OEM" status where as the Y which is available in exactly the same dimensions is not? The other wheels that I am concidering at the moment are from AEZ TIOGA 17" but they are a bit more at 184CHF (still 50% cheaper than the OEM wheels though) AEZ TIOGA 17" Borbet V 17" Borbet Y 17"

The have an English version of the same website: https://www.skoda-parts.com/ I will do some research. They also remove the VAT when shipping to non European countries so there is another 20% reduction shipping to Switzerland (Although I'd pay the tax through customs here which would add 7%) Thanks for the hint.

The part numbers I gave to the spare parts guy were the ones from the catalogue you provided (I printed out the Superb sections & highlighted the Anthracite one). e.g. TRITON: 3V0 071 497B FL8 Do you have a catalogue with prices included ? 40% cheaper would obviously be much more interesting... I asked at the Skoda dealer & they only had the Superb Accessories brochure (which doesn't list all of the available wheels) & it didn't have any prices. I will maybe try to call one of the independent Skoda garage in the north to see if they can offer different prices. All of the Skoda garages in my county are from a VAG franchise.

Finally got some prices back for the official Skoda wheels (without tyres & fixing kit but including center caps): Pegasus R18 - 440CHF each (400gbp) Zenith R18 - 420CHF each (380gbp) Antares R18 - 455CHF each (410gbp) Zeus R17 - 375CHF each (340gbp) Triton R17 - 365 CHF each (330 gbp) While some of them are great looking they are at best 2x the price of 3rd party wheels. e.g. Dezent R17 are 110CHF & AEZ R17 185CHF

Superb Mk4
On my side the car is a keeper so reliability was a big reason for choosing the mk3 over waiting 6 months for the new mk4. The next few months would be a good time to negotiate as here they already had lots of incentives to keep the superb sales going. There was an additional 6% discount on the superb and another 8% on the sportline/l&k (high spec models). At the beginning of next year the dealers should also be clearing the showrooms of the mk3 to make place for the new model so perhaps you could grab a bargain.
