  1. Pretty decent job. I've repaired many light scratches in a similar way or by first filling the scratch with clear and then flatting just that back. A rotary or da makes light work of removing 3000 grit marks
  2. First line of text on his original post... Although I didn't believe the story on wathdog about the 500s on hills until I saw Ben Collins fail at it! And yeah I've had smart cars fly past me when I'm doing 70!! Haha can imagine an isetta is intereetig in modern traffic, but that's only just a car :-D
  3. They must be rubbish then. My first car which was a 1.1 Peugeot 106 could easily have got me banned instantly on a motorway and an 850cc reliant kitten I had (don't ask lol) would nearly keep up with afriends robin that could do 90 (he was a nutter)... I have never driven a modern car that couldn't easily cope with excessive motorway speeds. I can't imagine the OP would be that interested in a 1.4TSI if he likes the performance of his TSI VRS
  4. I use soft white paper towels and glass cleaner or isopropyl alcohol to clean my glass and it really does help with condensation. I use white towels and it's surprising how much muck is picked up and how many times you have to turn the towl until it stays white.
  5. I must admit to owning a few beat up cars in the past... And parking them on purpose next to really nice cars at the end of the carpark. But I was secretly protecting the nice cars although the owners might not have known it ;-)
  6. I came back to my last car and someone had put a bag of shopping on its roof whilst they were trying to put a big box in through the rear door as they had parked too close to the wall to open their boot. I put the bag on the floor and had a go and asked why didn't they put it on their roof? They said they didn't want to scratch it!!! It took all my will power to not boot said bag as hard as I could across the carpark! Utter ****er A friend said someone put a hot coffee on his car while they were loading theirs. Apparently that went flying lol
  7. I have a year on my PCP left and I'm seriously considering moving from my VRS TSI estate to a golf R estate or a superb 280 at the end of it as I want more speeeeed. OK well really I want 4x4 without loss of speed so TDI VRS is a definite no go and I do feel the golf feels more premium and I'm guessing the superb will too. Although really it all depends on if I can afford the extra outlay. The loss of space to a golf won't bother me that much as the performance and handling should make up for it
  8. LED lights transition from on to off instantly. It's halogens that you can see softly turning on or off as the filament heats up/cools down
  9. Wife has just got 4 eagle f1s on her car and they are excellent all round tyres. Will probably replace my VRS fronts with them shortly. Never read anything good about efficientgrip only bad but I'm guessing the performance ones are newer/better?
  10. If the cylinder walls were marked and they bored the engine oversize to suit then it could also gain capacity. Don't know if you would notice this when driving though on a small displacement engine. Felt an improvement on some of the v8s I've done in the past but they were also tired when before I started. I have rebuilt bike engines that have thrown rods before and they make just as much power after a proper rebuild with new internals even though the insides of the crank cases are a bit battered
  11. Glad to hear it's all getting sorted, just so you know lane assist and stop start are standard on VRS models. All I know about remanufactured engines is that I had a 2.0 pd140 one in my Passat along with the turbo and it gave me many years of good service and made a car with 100k on the clock feel fresh and pokey
  12. I'm reply to the original post 1litre in 15k sounds fine. In reply to some of the other comments... Checking the oil is easy just wipe and dip its not hard? Also the hand book states the oil must be checked at operating temperature not cold. Worth reading it when you get a new car
  13. I changed the oil in my Octavia VRS TSI at around 3k when it was 6 months old as I had the oil much like you do... It's now done 14k and not used a drop at all. Can't do it any harm
  14. I didn't think they made a VRS 4x4 TSI yet only the TDI... Not in the UK anyway
  15. Just plain pulling away rapidly will be much easier as with my current VRS its very easy to loose traction on one wheel and then if you don't back off it will just light it up. If it's wet or bumpy then wheel hop and loss of traction can also be an issue. Obviously if its like this I have to be much more careful. With a limited slip differential this effect is much reduced so you can just mash it and go to some extent.
  16. I get this all the time on my VRS combi. Has done it since new and that was two years and 14k ago. Never used any oil or water. It's just to do with the way the air moves around the rear window and pulls up the hot moisture rich exhaust gases over the cold glass.
  17. I've never had a front wheel drive car with a LSD or electric variant however I have gone from a UK to a Japanese spec rear wheel drive car(mx5) that was the same in everyway(bhp, gearing and suspension) other than the Jap car had a torsen LSD and it made a hell of a difference to being able to power out of corners without the car trying to light up an inside wheel... The mx5 only made 130bhp at the flywheel so I can imagine the fancy diff in the 230 would make the cars power much more usable although the extra 10bhp isn't worth worrying about
  18. I doubt it was down to the oil being dirty or bad in any way. More likely a manufacturing defect to let go at that low mileage, if the previous owner had done more miles it would have just failed sooner. Short journeys don't do any engines good but thousands of cars are driven this way and last for many many miles
  19. My previous car, an 06 Passat 2.0TDI had an engine fitted by vw at 86k when its oil pump failed(BKP engine woo). This was 6 months before I bought the car and one of the reasons I bought it along with the receipts for the £5800 the previous owner paid to have it done I only paid 6800! It had an exchange engine fitted which was a reconditioned one. It's pretty common practice from what I've heard from a guy at work that used to work at a vw dealership. The engine then gave me 40k worth of miles without issue before I chopped it in for my vrs however I can see with 4k on the car it can seem a bit of a shame to not have a nice new engine it will be fit for purpose
  20. Love my TSI, wouldn't swap it for a diesel its just so much nicer to drive and has the extra go the TDI really lacks
  21. I agree with what people say about not trusting the auto lights and it's worth checking they are in fact on but what is all the nonsense about no indicator light... there is a simple warning light on the dash isn't there! It's just on the switch not the instrument cluster and it's not exactly hard to see? Do you really need a huge bright green 1cm³ light right in the middle of the cluster instead of the pretty obvious one on the switch? I can understand that if your very short the seating position might make it akward to look around the steering wheel at it but come on! Suppose if this is the only thing that winds people up about the car then the rest of it must be good :-D
  22. I presume the superb is the same as the Octavia in that you loose all adaptive lighting functions and the coming/leaving home lighting if you switch the lights on manually? Another reason to just leave it in auto and check they are on with the switch indicator. I've only driven in fog during the day a few times and my lights came on every time...
