That's been the truth for years. It's such a shame to see F1 cars racing so slowly compared with how fast they can actually go.

He is a drama queen, isn't he. Wins easily at Spa and then complains how hard it was. I'd never really noticed before how like Mansell he is.

Daniel was getting very close to what? Certainly not the Mercedes. Hamilton was cruising around Spa and beat the Renault (that was flat out) by 18.877 seconds.

I bet Hamilton enjoyed the second half. No messing, just thrash it and try to get some points. Could have got further up with some more engine modes though.

Because lollol says Mercedes will knacker their tyres and need an extra stop, based on the evidence of 1 bad race in 2020, and despite Hamilton's long-proven knack of making them last longer than other drivers.

That says it all. Top speed figures have no bearing on the race. Bottas had the fastest car on the straights and was utterly ineffective the whole race.

Ferraris 999th GP was more than a bit awful. Interesting stat to show just where they are at right now: Vettel's P17 on the grid was their worst at Monza...ever. Scarfiotti's P16 in 1964 was their previous lowest qualifying position. In the meantime they have produced some real pigs of cars, the gutless1966 312, the gripless1980 312T5, the agricultural 1981 126, and the simply awful1990s 643, F92A, F93A. None of them have been as uncompetitive at Monza as the SF1000. Seems like it was designed for 100bhp more that it hasn't got? Is it a one off, or are Ferrari on the slippery slope to where Williams are, and Lotus never really came back from?

You seem to misunderstand a lot of F1. In the race Hamilton' s Merc was one of the fastest things down the straight all day. Neither Bottas or RB were particularly slow down the straight. However if a queue of cars are all getting DRS, then they all have enhanced top speed and none can pass. Traffic is the limit on lap time and overtaking at Monza. The only way to overtake is to have a big tyre advantage, which the stupid red flag rules denied us, since everyone was allowed fresh tyres - even to the extent of allowing Stroll a completely free pitstop and podium chance and denying Carlos his win.

You fail to mention a certain Max in your bad day list. He was as rubbish as Bottas.

Yeah. But they adjusted the cooling on Bottas car during the red flag. Monza is historically an awful place for overtaking, especially in a DRS queue. Hamilton wasn't in a queue though and picked them off one by one. Have to say Mugello whilst fast and flowing will possibly be worse, with no slow corners to overtake into.

Shouldn't have got away with it but for Bottas being inexplicably rubbish all day?? I mean, he must have been favourite to win from the second start surely?

Ferrari drop RP verdict appeal. RP drop appeal against punishment. Still no-one gets to appeal the FIA vs Ferrari cheating enquiry.

Well Done Pierre. He has really grown up in the last year, and will surely go back to RBR, either in place of Alex, or in 2022 when Max possibly goes to Mercedes?

Not a really useful set of stats as it depends if they got a tow or not in qually. Neither Bottas or Hamilton did as they were running alone. However, Hamilton was hitting 355kmh with DRS on the onboard views during his comeback drive in race 2.

So far this year they've protested Mercedes steering system, protested Hamilton post qually, protested Hamilton in the race, made allegations about Mercedes part in the Racing Point brake duct affair, forced a rule change to disadvantage Mercedes engines etc etc. If they just went away and built a faster car wouldn't that be a better use of their time? Max' comment about his car yesterday - "its just too slow." Approaching the Senna/Lotus divorce point I think. The Verstappens must surely have eyes on Bottas' Mercedes for 2022.

So how big is the real gap between Mercedes and everyone else under the new engine rules? Pole to the first non Merc is 0.8 seconds - but everyone except the Mercedes had a tow on all 4 straights. What do we think - 1.2 seconds faster? The teams that pushed for this must be kicking themselves. As an aside, Wolff has stated that Mercedes haven't even used party mode at all the previous races this year

Monza generally makes for boring races. Desperate fans waiting for anything to happen - an engine to blow up or the leader to crash (Hakkinen, Hill) or just occasionally a massive error from Hamilton (remember him stuffing it into the barrier after Lesmo 2 during the "Nicole" years?). Hopefully watch it tonight on C4.

Pretty sure Hamilton was fastest in Q1 on the medium, but elected not to use it in Q2. Mercedes only wrecked their tyres in mega heat at Silverstone, a high downforce track. Monza is nothing like that and the forecast is only 27C, so we will see. No-one qualified on the mediums because their poor start performance would almost certainly lose places on the run to turn 1 and overtaking here is painfully difficult most years. Who is this Renault-Mclaren team you speak of? According to the FIA entry list "McLaren Racing Ltd" enter the "McLaren F1 Team". No official mention of their bought-in engine - unlike Alpha Tauri Honda for instance.

Mercedes engine development anticipated the party mode ban, so they can actually now run the engine harder in the race than they did before. https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/151913/mercedes-planned-party-mode-ban-contingency--wolff Wolff, like Bo77as, has a little dig at RBR in his statement too.

Ferrari used to put a 3 litre in at Monza during the 50's and the Italian scrutineers never noticed. (It was a 2 1/2 litre formula at the time) They also used to get away with outrageous jump starts at Monza too. The other drivers didn't watch the flag, they watched the nearest Ferrari.

So remind me, which team pushed for the party mode ban? And which team have gone backwards on the grid with the party mode ban? Doesn't look so good for the race now does it? Hahahahaha. https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/151908/bottas-not-sure-how-happy-red-bull-is-on-party-modes Thanks for making my day RB-Honda.

I think it's happy times for Williams that someone has invested in the team. They couldn't have kept going for much longer otherwise. McLaren have had to pawn their historic car collection to raise a bit of cash too I think.

Isn't there a regular fault with the fan switch where the speeds fail one by one? Try searching these forums for previous reports.

At least the team continues. They've struggled for 5 years now with decreasing budgets and a downward spiral of performance. Now there is new money and hopefully the owners will find someone highly capable to manage the team, in the way that McLaren have recently with Andreas Seidl.

Juddering
I had a brand new 1.0Tsi loaner that had serious electrical problems, multiple warning lights, abs failure, climate failure and loads if other stuff, but, like your 1.2 it behaved oddly on the overrun. it felt like the fuel cut-off didn't work cleanly and there was a front/back rocking feeling whenever lifting off the accelerator. Get a fault code reader on it (the socket is above drivers right shin) and see if theres any fuel system codes.
