  1. I doubt you will ever need to top up between services
  2. Thanks for the reassurance Wino.
  3. I used a vacuum tube inserted down dipstick tube to extract oil. Afterwards, I am questioning if there are any sensors that the vacuum tube may knock off alignment? After all you are poking around blind with no visual sighting on where or what the vacuum tube is touching.
  4. It is sad to find the car drives you and not you driving the car. Manufacturers need to know that these safety and driving aids lulls the driver into a false sense of security and possibly dulls the alertness after a few miles being at the wheel. I have never needed them and if offered as options I will ignore them but unfortunately they are being fitted as standard
  5. I believe dealers are now charging £140 odd for both the old R134 refrigerant and the newer gas. Formerly the old gas was £79 for a aircon service so £109 is a lower recommended dealer price. I had my roomster serviced at 5 years old and could not feel a difference. I only had the aircon service as compensation measure for a poor main dealer service. £70 is a more realistic price
  6. Decided to buy a vacuum oil extractor as I wanted to change the oil on my 1.2 tsi and wanted to avoid the removal of the undertray and the possible problem of not being able to undo sump plug. I fed the 4mm tube down the dipstick tube and felt a resistance, so to make sure I overcame the resistance and the tube went further until it came to a firm stop. Has anyone had their sump cover removed and knows where the oil pickup and strainer is in relation to the dispstick tube? I would not like the risk of damaging the oil strainer. I realise the tube can curl in the sump so may not rest on the sump bottom. It took 1 hour to remove the 3.9 litres of oil due to to the restrictive 4mm sucker tube and according to the marks on the side of the extractor the majority was removed as the used oil aligned almost with the 4 litre capacity line. I know there is controversy over suck or drain but I don't want to go there! Hey ho!
  7. Our 63 reg is 86bhp. Skoda ran special editions for £9996 in 2013 but only two colours: Pale Blue and Briliant Silver with the lower output engine. It was a £4400 saving over list price but they came with aircon, panny roof, parking sensors, disc brakes on rear wheels and the lower insurance: great value
  8. My son has a Ford Fiesta which had the ABS light on with handbrake light and traction control all light up at the same time. He called the breakdown service who read the codes as the pump on the ABS Module for the rear nearside wheel was not working. He carefully drove to a Ford dealer who confirmed the fault.
  9. ABS Module? A Skoda dealer would know
  10. It needs a code reader to identify the fault(s).
  11. Does the aircon work? This will show that the fan is working
  12. You are right Glass/repair replacement is covered. Sorry for misinformation
  13. Specifically says that it is general accident cover - not windscreen cover
  14. No previous claim. I have NCB protection
  15. I am very intrepid about my panny roof. According to my insurance company it is not windscreen cover but general accident so if it goes it is an insurance claim so no claim bonus under threat. I am careful where I park away from overhanging trees and away from adjacent skip lorries. It is fixed and not tilt and slide like some and I have enjoyed 8 years of incident free motoring
  16. I have decided to change my oil instead of paying dealer prices. I need VW504 spec oil and found Redex engine oil at half the price of Castrol Edge. Shell Helix Ultra is even more pennies and are we bamboozled by the marketing claims by the large internationals of the miracle additives? I doubt if the average motorist shears the molecular structure by motorway or local journeys. I am trying Redex 5W 30W long drain this time. If it is good enough for Porsche recommendation it is good enough for me.
  17. Our 300 mile trip to Cornwall will be interminable. At motorway speeds I normally get 53mpg so some sacrifice
  18. Toodled home on a 25 mile journey last night at a steady 50mph with no stops and 4 roundabouts and managed from the display 67.8mpg which is the most I have ever got from a petrol engine during my motoring life. OK, if the accuracy is in doubt it is a reference marker on what is achievable. If 10% optimistic I can live with it. The Roomster is not the best aerodynamic shape out there but it competes well with the hybrid and mild hybrid technology on offer today.
  19. Just a point of interest if you were planning a bank job!!
  20. Don't know if my Roomster is a prototype in everlasting bulb technology but I have not had to replace any bulb in 8 years of ownership. When one goes no doubt its replacement will last one year
  21. Skoda don't want you to do it. I don't know what headlamp bulbs my Roomster uses. When buying an emergency pack for continental use do I buy H7 or H4 halogens? That information would be useful merely from a safety aspect. I know a sticker is on the inside of the fuel flap shows tyre pressures but it is not very clear. My handbook is written in almost pidgin English, possibly a translation from Czech but contradictory in places. Skoda, get a grip
  22. I know ABS is a safety feature but how many drivers regularly activate it? In my driving life I have only been in the position me activating it around five times in 20 years. I rarely have to apply my brakes in anger but to know that ABS could get me out of trouble in an emergency is reassuring. When I was learning to drive a Police traffic cop told me to read the road and anticipate what could happen. His advice stuck. No I was not pulled up but he was a neighbour. As a matter of interest he said that they had no chance against a Lotus Elan or Mini Cooper S around London Streets.
  23. Had the fitting done at a dealer, the same dealer I bought the part from. Cost £92 which I thought was worth the hassle free and I have a guarantee.
  24. I had to have the PCV valve replaced because, I believe, that mine was broken during a major service when the main dealer replaced the air filter. The airbox lid was lifted to gain access to the filter which puts leverage on that pipe to the PCV valve. I would imagine many PCV valves are broken this way during a major service as that pipe has not the flexibility to allow for this movement. I am doing it myself now and have the opportunity to practice mechanical sympathy when servicing.
  25. I was clearing out the shed and found a two-thirds finished can of Waxoyl with a sticker £4.95 from Halfords. I used it last on the Triumph Dolomite showing when I last used it. I disposed of it but now wish I had kept it after seeing these reports.
