  1. Installing Freeview | ukfree.tv - independent digital TV + switchover advice, since 2002 is a very helpful website which will tell you the exact type of antenna you need, its polarisation and the direction it should face. I would wait until Thursday to play about with the BT Vision box because of the major retune with Freeview happening tomorrow (30th Sept) TV Re-tune Also there has just been a major software upgrade for the BT Vision boxes so make sure your box has got it, you will find this forum very helpful regarding BT Vision and the software versions etc etc: : BT Vision HTH
  2. We use Second Copy on our SBS 2003 server in conjunction with windows backup. Windows backup creates the back ups of Exchange into one (big!) file, then second copy runs to copy all the user and file data and the Exchange file to a removable hard drive. Second Copy keeps a log and will email if there are problems. It also runs some scripts before starting to back up the Sage database that's on another server. Second Copy: Secure your data with automatic backup software The removable hard drive has TrueCrypt on it to protect the data from prying eyes but unlike a backup with Windows backup if the server goes down or some other disaster, sticking the removable hard drive on any other PC, installing the TrueCrypt driver off the drive and the password and then sharing the drive over a network means a really really quick back up and running time for everyone's data, which is important to us. Windows backup file has to be written to somewhere before you can get to the data. TrueCrypt - Free Open-Source On-The-Fly Disk Encryption Software for Windows Vista/XP, Mac OS X and Linux By the way, use Second Copy, or any other backup application, as a service, do not rely on a 'click this icon' to do a backup, it will get forgotten and sod's law will come in to play!
  3. Looks like I'm shopping for a new PC as my home desktop is dead - just gives a long bleep short pause long bleep ad infinitum when you power it up, have fiddled with PSU & memory to no avail. Quite like the look of the Mesh Elite Ice 5 LE with the new core i5 750 CPU: MESH Computers - Award Winning Review PCs Since 1987 - Elite Ice 5 LE Just after opinions on Mesh really & whether the PC will be relatively quiet and reliable? My old desktop was a Medion 8383XL which made a bit of a racket but has been reliable for the past 5 years up to now. Not really in to latest games but want speed for photo editing and maybe a bit of video (got wedding coming up!)
  4. Also I wouldn't check email using a POP3 client connection that isn't encrypted, which I think is the majority of them, certainly seems to be the default settings anyway. Interesting that it is possible in theory to connect to the hard drive if the machine is not set up correctly, so short answer to the question is yes... Like the thought about pretending to be an access point, how would you know if it was not?
  5. I got asked "Now what, if anything, stops someone being on a free public wireless access point simply accessing the hidden root c$ share on another XP machine using the access point and looking/copying the files off it"? To which I don't know the answer, so over to the Tech Shed...
  6. I have some wedding invitations to make, 100 or so off, and need to print an A6 size piece of card that will then be assembled into the invite cards. Printing the design on a laser printer looks a bit naff as there's a bit of black area which just looks like it's been printed on a laser printer (if you know what I mean) and inkjet takes a while and of course costs with the ink. So anyone any recommends for printing, online or along the Sussex Coast around Brighton/Worthing area? Ta.
  7. If you have a picture of the typeface try this site below to automatically identify the font. If that doesn't work you can post on their forum for it to be worked out manually. www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ HTH.
  8. Fiancee and I are off to Take That at Wembley on Sunday, standing tickets only. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on what would be a good time to get there as a trade off between hanging around for ages (I presume there are support acts, anyone know who they are?) and not being able to get in to see anything. Gates open at 5pm it says on the tickets. Can you tell that I'm not an experienced concert goer?

  10. Thanks to the MOT query answers, I'll book it in and see! I didn't see an actual thread on fixing it other than a number saying the rod/mechanism was broken, use a screwdriver to release the seat. I expect you have to peel the grey backing off to get to it, or there's some method of prising out the top plastic catch and cover. That's why I haven't time to faff around fixing it. Any pointers about fixing welcome, although I will try and see if I can get a Skoda service centre to sort it.
  11. The release for the rear fold down seat on the passenger side has broken :( - I see from threads on here that this happens - so the seat can't be folded down without fiddling with a screwdriver from within the boot. It is latched securely in the upright position. Haven't got time at the moment to faff around with it to fix it, but the car is due an MOT soon, would this be a failure? Hmm, just thought, guess this still be covered under warranty (got about twenty days to go till the three year mark)... Anyway, will it pass the MOT? Cheers.
  12. Browsing the web and a tab in IE7 seemed to get redirected to this http: // www . sg10scanner . com - spaces in URL so no one clicks on it. with an annoying dialogue box with OK or Cancel wittering on about Spyware Guard 2008. Now I hit control alt delete and killed iexplore because I assume that pressing any button would start downloading some rubbish to my computer, but it also seems to work in Firefox 3.0.5 with the dialogue box. Anyway, look out for that URL, anyone dared ventured to see what it actually does? How can you stop it if other sites do this? I've entered the address into my local HOSTS file so it redirects to 127.0.0.1 so won't see it again but of course other sites could do this... Screenshot below:
  13. Most likely that a cell has gone in the battery, replace.
  14. Now with Windows 7 have Microsoft changed the massive mash of operating system and user data files scattered everywhere that is XP, Vista and everything before? Why do I think not but love to be proved wrong, this is a feature I would dearly love. O/S files on C, Application Files on D, Program Data on E, Scratch/Temp on F, User documents/data on G. Seperate partitions. That is how an operating system should work IMHO. Be SO much easier to support and maintain.
  15. Just as no one has mentioned it as it's the fuse in these cases, if the bonnet switch that detects the bonnet is fully closed fails then the wipers won't work. Mine failed on my old 04 plate VRS as it had a crack in the plastic which let the damp in giving intermittent faults. It's located near the bonnet catch.
  16. Now this is where it might be worth paying the poor student fellow at Halfords the fiver with penny change to fit it...
  17. AFAIK activating rear wiper when selecting reverse with front wipers on is part of EC directive 94/68/EC and so is fitted to all cars with rear wipers manufactured from around 1996 onwards. If so it is cunningly a piece of legislation that is marketed as a feature Bit like 'now available with hand operated parking brake' might have been on very early models of cars last century Back on topic - it tells you about the air circulation and reverse gear in the operating manual Like most people for me the book just lived in the glove box for ages but was very interesting when I actually read it!
  18. If you make a 'big' purchase, between £100 and £30,000, make sure you pay either all the amount or a deposit towards the amount on a credit card - but not credit card cheques - because then the credit card company will have equal liability under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
  19. How did you get to it then?
  20. FYI the notices in the Brighton Zavvi store said the 10% didn't apply to 'games hardware'. This could just mean the actual consoles though...
  21. You can also get a replacement disc for Gears of War 2 for a tenner via the Microsoft XBox Disc replacement plan, see here: Disc Replacement Plan The order form tells you all you need to know. HTH
  22. You might like to browse the 'Gear & Electronics' section of the Runner's World forums, lots of 305 users there: http://www.runnersworld.com/community/forums/index.jsp My fiance has the 405 and has it linked to Google Earth which is very cool... You can also export the plots from the Garmin software as a GPX and upload them to EveryTrail - GPS Travel Community, Share your GPS Tracks, Geotag your photos
  23. Hmm, it appears that my original attachment can't be retrieved off here? Anyway it was this one attached that caused the trouble. A clue is that I think it is badly drawn.... PM me for the answer if it's doing the rounds again and done your head in....
  24. 10/10 That score didn't impress the missus though for some reason?
  25. Does anyone know of a reputable source for preferably an actual Panasonic 'official' battery for my digital camera? I'd like a spare but looking on the internet all I seem to find are copies and clones, not really interested in these as who knows if they are safe but maybe there are some good ones out there if you can't actually get an 'official' one? The battery is a CGA-S007A to fit a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. Ta for any help
