  1. Sounds strange. Don't know to much about that sort of issue, but hopefully someone with more knowledge of this sort of thing will be along shortly. If it is your ECU then I can reccomened ECU Testing in Derby. May take a while but good work. Good luck with the fix.
  2. +1 here for the ezzibleed system. Been around for years.
  3. Windows media player will rip from CD to MP3 if you don't fancy downloading additional software. I also use a YouTube comverter to get my music, there's one that does it online. Again saves downloading software. Torrents can be a bit hit and miss, but easier if your looking for full albums as opposed to you tube.
  4. Found one on the floor today, Reading the other thread they come from above the pedals, which makes sence considering I've had the lower trim out today. Has anyone found exactly where they come from? Can't for my life find anything obvious as to where it belongs.
  5. If you take the resistor to somewhere like Maplins you should get one for a few pence. The lines on the resistor tell you the level of resistance, take a photo of it and someone in store should be able to help you.
  6. Picked some up from my local TPS the other week. Something like 79p each
  7. Rear wiper motor is probably in need of replacement. It's a common fault and plenty of us have had them fail. Clocks, could be something to do with the processor In the clocks. I've had some clock issues myself recently and they are now off for repair. Windows, I'd be checking that the switches are working. If they work off the remote, then it's probably something switch related.
  8. Cut a long story short, but I need to send my clocks off for repair. Has anyone had their clocks repaired? Any reccomendations / feedback? Always good to hear first hand experiance.
  9. Well, I've gone through everything today, ECU out, checked wiring etc.... So turned out attention to the clocks due to some faults the car was throwing up on vag com. Ended up giving the clocks a few wacks to see if it was a dry joint. Now the maxi dot display is doing some very strange things and is generally unreadable. So 2 options, 1 send them off for repair, anyone got any reccomendations as to where to send them, past experience etc..... 2 obtain another set of clocks. If I get another set of clocks, I know I'll have some issues with the immobiliser, anyone know what I'd need to do to programme them to my car? 2008 VRS diesel pre facelift. Thanks in advance. Ted.
  10. What clocks have you got? Looking for some maxidot clocks mine are fubar!!
  11. Don't think its a battery issue, car would and still does turn over with ease, turned it over lots of times with the AA. Spoke to a friend who's in the trade and has worked the VAG contract in the past in customer assistance (like the AA) and he said he has seen problems with the oil pump causing similar symptoms, so I might need to check the oil pressure which should be about 15- 20 lb. I have a feeling this is going to be a costly exercise. :(
  12. Driving to work this morning and as pulling out of a junction the ABS light and the Slippery Road sign illuminated. Moments later some bonging and bleeping from the car, initially thought wheel speed sensor. A little further down the road, the Air bag warning light comes on with a message on the maxidot warning me about the drivers air bag? At this point the dash clock lights (illumination lights) went out. Thought id pull over and restart the car just in case, just before pulling over the maxidot displayed that the oil pressure was low. Pulled over, turned car off for a few minutes and it wouldn't start. AA arrived, cut a long story short gave the P1640 and P1570 fault codes from the ECU. Cars now in the local garage down the road. Any ideas? Reading the forum, someone had a similar issue with water ingress into the ECU via the wiring loom. It was raining last night and this morning.
  13. I did the same a few years back to a Passat I had. On comparison I found the Ford oil to be thinner / more runnier. The Passat was prone to burning some oil, but the ford stuff went even quicker than normal. I just changed it at a later point, did a few thousand miles before I changed it.
  14. Thanks gents, looks like it's a trip to euro's Shame it so chuffin cold outside,
  15. I had to phone the dealer to get the correct part number recently. ECP will be able to identify the correct part if you give them the part number. My local dealer didn't want to give me the part number, but I phoned the original dealers who sold the car and they were very helpful
  16. Top mounts are knocking so it's time to change them. Are there any up rated ones on the market that are worth considering? I'm not after anything like powerflex, I'm just looking for something made from better rubber but maintaining the the ride quality of the car. Or do I just go to TPS and get some genuine vag ones?
  17. As others have said, sounds like the wiper motor. Mine did exactly the same as yours. The motors on the rear wiper are very weak and they simply fail. Just get a replacement from euro car parts / GSF / TPS Got mine from euros for about £70, check to see if they have an online deal first as you can save money by pre ordering it on the internet beforehand.
  18. Everyone makes mistakes, it's how you deal with those mistakes that counts. See what happens, it may be the best customer service you ever receive. Fingers crossed for you, let us know how you get on.
  19. I've had 2 passats with pelum chambers blocked in the past. Water in the rear footwell was always the problem. Might be worth a look. Haven't checked my octavia for blockages as yet, but I've found that a net curtain wire is very useful in reaching and unblocking the holes.
  20. Did my oil change today, but getting the cap off the oil filter housing was a royal pain in the backside! In the end I had to disconnect the throttle body to get enough room to remove the cap. Does anyone know an easier way to get the cap off? Also what size socket is it to remove the cap as I had to use an oversized AF socket to get it off and I'd like to get the correct size for next time. Thanks.
  21. When I was looking for a fuel filter from ECP this week I was told VAG withhold the part number information. Indeed in some cases this does seem to be true as when I phoned my local stealer, I was told they can't give that information out. I phoned the original dealers who sold the car and was issued with a part number with no problem. ECP was then able to cross reference the VAG number with the Bosh number. If ECP have given you a fuel filter just from your reg number, then I think they are just taking a guess. Looking at the site there is 2 possible filters for mine. For mine when I clicked on part details or does state in the other information line. "Manafactaurer restriction Mann-Hummel" others state "manufacturer restriction UFI- system" I can only assume this is VAG not supplying the information to enable part suppliers to correctly identify parts.
  22. Phoned the parts department today which was answered by a grumpy chap. I asked for a part number for the fuel filter and was told "we can't give that information out" My argument was its my car and I'd like to change the filter, but because skoda withhold the information I couldn't identify the correct part. After a few grunts and puffs he said "very well, hang on a minute" a few taps of the keyboard I was told, he couldn't identify my car as it was an import? I did ask was that because it came from the chec republic like other skoda's? As to which there was no reply. I called the original dealer who sold the car, very nice and polite and very helpful. They gave me the part number almost instantly. I asked if they could give me any history on the car, they confirmed all the work that they had done on the car, (I'll look their name up later and give feedback, somewhere in Wales) They couldn't understand why I'd been told it was a non UK car. Personally I think the chap at Kings Norton simply couldn't be arsed. Cars due for a cam belt change soon, needless to say it won't be going to Kings Norton.
  23. I can only echo what others had said and the above is sound advice.Had a 2.0 20valve sport for about 10 years and it was faultless it all that time, well apart from consumables, exhaust etc. Wings are an issue, I believe the plastic inner arch rubs on the wing, causing it to start rusting. Cambelt tensioners seem to pick up some crud on the face of the wheel and are worth replacing with the cam belt and water pump. Check the drain points under the battery and the one on the drivers side, I found a wire from some net curtains is enough to unblock it without having to remove the battery. Check the trim under the windscreen for splits, easy to damage it when removing the battery and will cause wet feet in the car, less than £20 from the dealers. Mine was a great car, did loads of miles in it and never let me down once. Quiter than the octavia to drive too.
