Thanks. I just bought a new one. I was going to buy a pair from a 2012 that was being broken on eBay but decided just to go new to save the hassle of it potentially not being in any better condition than mine.

Old topic i know but I've just had to cut mine off my VRS Rear. Also just ordered new pads and a new caliper to replace a seized one. I'm considering just cutting the backing plate to fit it back on, how easy is it to get the hub apart to do it properly?

Any one know if all rear calipers are the same on all Mk2s? Will a set from a 2012 FL fit my 2008 Pre-FL? Complete with carrier if that makes a difference. Ta

My old XType snapped a front spring. Someone I work with has just had a new spring and tyre (shredded by spring) on her 1 series.

It's not attached to the engine. If it was then it would flap about when the engine moves on its mounts.

Today I fitted the new inlet manifold. Took me about 3 hours including cleaning everything up before refitting. Was reasonably straight forward, worst bit was cleaning up the egr gunk. The leak on the original manifold had got really bad over the last couple of thousand miles and made a bit of a mess. The good news is the car runs exactly the same as on the old manifold, hasn't stuttered yet between 1.5 - 2k revs and if anything is slightly smoother under light throttle. And no more swirl flaps to worry about.

Not sure what the Halfords one is but always use proper G13 (or G12) for all VAG vehicles. It's pink and not that expensive from TPS.

Just incase anyone comes across this with the same problem I'll keep it updated. I've just ordered a BKD inlet from Darkside Developments. It's aluminium and has no flaps. They say it bolts straight on and engine cover still fits. They supply a second hand but cleaned up manifold with bolts and gaskets. Not the cheapest way to get one but hassle free and I don't have to do any cleaning Will take some photos when I come to change it and report if I notice any difference in performance.

It's alright, I'll just keep them closed! It was just a light hearted moan/observation

Yeah it did get better with the fronts cracked open. Both rears open was just as bad I think.

So have I but this is the worst I think! It's unbearable as apposed to just being a bit noisy.

The handbrake light on my dash is intermittent, I assume the switch for it is somewhere on the handbrake itself? So jumbo box out for access? Cheers..

I need to change my inlet manifold, to this I need to remove the EGR valve unit. I had a quick look and can't see how I can access the bolt above the exhaust gas inlet - there's no space to get a torque bit onto it. How do you get on it? PD170 BMN. did they at no point open the rear windows while on the move?? Just done a long journey with the dog in the boot, thought it was a bit warm for him so opened the back windows to give him a blast of air - I think I deafened him and burst his eardrums instead!! :no:
