  1. I just came in here to start a thread about Super diesel and DPFS. Not long after i got my Octy VRS170 PD it was noticeably regenning the DPF a lot, every 100 or fewer miles. So I put some posh fuel in it, can't remember what but likely BP Ultimate, and also did a 1000 mile round trip. And no more annoying active regens. I usually run it on super of some kind, with the occasional tank of cheap stuff if it's not available. 12,000 miles later and it's been running great without the excessive regens. Until last week where it was doing it nearly every journey, and I'd just had it remapped and I'd put in bog standard Esso. It's now 1/4 of the way through a tank of Ultimate and it's settled back down and not noticeably regenned. Don't notice any difference in mpg or power but if it keeps the DPF nice and clear then it's worth it. Problem is I don't know if it's just coincidence or if it actually makes a difference.
  2. I have this ready gutted DPF in my watch list. OK it's not the neatest welding but could be tidied up and could be the way to go if you want to keep hold of the original. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=252244415973&alt=web
  3. I did mine last month. Was £35 ish from Skoda and the trim isn't that difficult, just make sure you get something in behind the clips. 30minute job I reckon
  4. Watching this as I seem to have an overly excitable DPF that likes lots of regens.
  5. This isn't Octavia specific but we have similar on our TT. There's a knock on the front, jacked up and inspecting/shaking everything didn't show any movement. It was only once the droplinks were removed that you could feel movement in the ARB (which still needs the bushes replacing). Replacing the droplinks has removed a lot of the knocking.
  6. I use quantum from eBay. Think it was Cardiff Audi that had it cheapest for 29 litres last time I ordered it. We've got 3 vehicles that all use it so buy in bulk(ish).
  7. I hope it's as good as everyone says And I hope the previous owner of my car was nice to my clutch!
  8. Oops. I seem to be booked in this afternoon at Brotek.
  9. Took me the best part of a Saturday. I didn't work flat out though and the rain slowed me down. 4-6 hours like brad says is about right. I followed this guide http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/246754-replacing-aircon-condenser-how-to-put-lock-carrier-in-service-position/#entry2895228 If you're just doing intercooler then ib think there's enough space to swing the condenser out of the way with it all still connected as it's on flexi pipes. And in that link it says about supporting the front panel and pulling it forward. I realised the only thing still connected to it was headlight washers and temperature sensor, so found it easier to take it off and get it right out the way.
  10. I changed mine a few weeks ago (along with my air con condenser). It's reasonably easy if you're handy with the spanners but quite long winded. I found a guide somewhere on here that I can dig out if you can't find it. This is what has to come off
  11. Cheers but I think I've negotiated myself a discount anyway. Will save the freedom membership for another day
  12. Ooh, what's this you speak of? I have a slight hesitation around/just above 1.5k revs. 170PD too.
  13. Will report back. I think I'm going to go for it. Unfortunately missed the 25% off but on the plus side it's not as expensive as I thought for my car.
  14. I've emailed Brotek who seem to be my local Shark mapper and got a reply.... I'm very tempted to go for it for my VRS.
  15. That's very cheap. I just did my condenser and intercooler. If I could have found someone to do it for £100 I wouldn't have spent the day in the cold on my drive!
  16. Can you get a map with standard / power map switch? And switch it off when she's driving it?
  17. Saturday I pulled the front apart and fitted new intercooler and air con condenser. Finished the job off today because I neglected to order new seals for the boost pipes and one of the old ones had stretched and wouldn't go back together. Then took it for an MOT this afternoon - passed with no advisories And back together
  18. Thanks Navman, just putting my bumper back on after following your guide My condenser and intercooler both needed replacing
  19. Cheers I have all the how to threads bookmarked to refer to Mrroberts thanks but from what I can tell the hoses are all OK. The IC looks to be leaking all along the bottom edge.
  20. M5 x 50 here is that's what you mean? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=281862582111&alt=web I bought mine second hand and it came with Allen head cap screws, didn't even think about them not being the right thing. It never comes out so not a problem.
  21. Today I changed my oil and filter. And fuel filter. And found out that I need a new intercooler :( Then fitted my winter wheels.
  22. This is what I did today, fitted the Audi 16" alloys that I bought from someone on here back in the summer. Really doesn't look that nice on them but a lot better than steelies
  23. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=290840516115&alt=web Just ordered 1200x300 of the above. Having just looked at pictures of the genuine protector the diy option looks more useful.
