  1. This. If anything more manufacturers are making them now, but more crucially, people are actually buying new petrols in greater numbers. This same question again will be different in a few years time where the 3-5 year old used market will be less skewed towards diesels. 2014 was part of an era where high CO2 emitting petrols were shunned for diesels. Company car buyers and private buyers both benefitted from low CO2 taxation/BIK on diesels then.
  2. Remapped ones are known to be harsher on the manuals than DSGs so it seems to tie in. The proper Skoda rubber mats are excellent this time of year. As is the rubber boot mat liner.
  3. Hello and welcome! Saw your posts on piston heads as well, looks like a great car! There is a wealth of info in the MK3 Octavia section, if you haven't already had a good browse prior to purchasing What's the spec like?
  4. Weirdly I've actually had very good results with Amazon Music HD streamed over Bluetooth. Source wise it's lossless and close to cd quality I believe, not sure how much it is compressed etc. from the Bluetooth streaming but it sounded fantastic. Excellent sound at close to max volume with no perceptible distortion.
  5. If it's a bit of condensation it's normal. If it's enough to form a puddle, then it's a problem. Those bashing Skoda for this, I've seen it on 2 different BMWs on my road this week, so it's not a cheap brand Vs premium brand thing either.
  6. 096AGM is a perfect replacement, likely an upgrade if anything as most seem to have an EFB from factory. That Halfords is allegedly a rebranded Yuasa which is a great battery brand. I would always advocate coding as that is what "should" be done. Halfords may be able to code, I know AA were able to when they came out to me and replaced mine.
  7. I don't think sound proofing is the issue. Sure it could use a little more, but my MIB1 Columbus and Canton with some tweaking of the settings and a quality source sound fantastic imo. I'm picky about this sort of stuff as well, I have £300 Sennheiser earphones for example.
  8. In the UK, the IV has 201bhp combined and the VRS IV has 242 bhp. 258 lb ft in the IV plays 295 lb ft in the VRS IV for torque.
  9. There has been a massive thread on this in the past. Seems fairly common and normal unless you are seeing another issue i.e. coolant loss or usage.
  10. Quick search online suggests the MK4 is about 80kg more like for like (petrol dsg hatch). Similar to an extra average weight adult passenger in a MK3. Probably not enough alone to noticeably impact mpg. I'd be surprised if similar mpg figures weren't achievable in the MK4 i.e. low to mid 40s on a decent run. Be interesting to know your thoughts once it's run in a bit more.
  11. I've seen a YouTube video of one in another European market where the traffic sign is displayed on the HUD. Can't imagine it should be different here. Isn't the biggest differentiator if you have TSR or not, i.e. you have the rear view camera to do it? It seems like it is possible to order a car with HUD but not have the camera which does TSR. Approx 10:51 the traffic sign on HUD is shown.
  12. Agree it's very subjective and everyone will have their own preferences. It seems in other European markets, there is an option for half leather/half alcantara centres which seems ideal. I'm hoping this will be offered here too. More choice can only be a better thing.
  13. Those with the new VRS, how are you finding the cloth seats? It seems to be a big step backwards there is no leather or half leather option currently. My MK3 has leather (pleather?) on the front seat backs, centre seat in back, sides of the back seats etc. all areas where the kids seem to put greasy hands or muddy feet. Wipes clean no problem and concerned the cloth will be a lot harder to keep clean.
  14. It's not something I've seen personally here in Lancashire or via local police social media, but I'd imagine it should be a short conversation for those with a valid reason. I'd expect it to be targeting those who aren't making essential journeys rather than verifying those commuting don't have an alternative.
  15. There is nothing stopping or banning people from commuting despite lockdown.
  16. I expect it would depend if you have the 340mm front discs or 312mm. Skoda changed them on the TDIs around 2016 but build date will determine rather than reg date. The 312mm are smaller than these clubsport discs and have a different caliper.
  17. Thanks and great to hear. They are reasonably local and have passed it many times but never had a first hand recommendation. I had a quick look at their site and their prices don't seem that much cheaper than dealers do. Does that match your experience?
  18. I agree I think Canton is pretty good. There's plenty of adjustment to suit your tastes. I have boosted the bass on mine as it suits taste and genres I listen to. Treble is already fairly sharp without tweaking. I added sound deadening to my boot floor which seemed to boost the subs "oomph". Setting the focus to driver and turning the sub volume up also had positive effects too.
  19. SOS 999 seen parked in the urgent care doctor spaces at the local hospital. Properly cool. On a Grey Nissan Navara.
  20. The standard LEDs look to be in reflector units which from experience of other cars don't seem to throw light well compared to projector based units. MK3 VRS Bi-xenon has projectors, as does the matrix led on the MK4.
  21. 46 mile round trip commute (or was pre Covid) and usually made low 40s. Long term average 37mpg with shorter trips at weekend. Now it barely goes above 30 but my mileage has dropped massively, a tank of fuel lasts a month now instead of a week.
