  1. Loads of excellent examples of both for the OP's £13k budget...
  2. Thanks for posting, read that thread for the harmonic damper a few weeks ago and added it to my parts list👍🏻 I'm still torn on whether to keep the car or change it so any additional spends for now are off and if I recall it wasn't an especially cheap part?
  3. Scotch Gard should do the job, there may be better/fancier products out there but if you want a solid and cheap solution you could do much worse.
  4. Lovely car! How does it compare to the Octavia? Been looking at Arteons as a potential replacement for my VRS. They look incredible imo and there's something a bit left field and uncommon about them, don't see many about.
  5. As you have the rain sensor, in my opinion there are two possibilities. 1: automatic wiping is not enabled in the infotainment, therefore leaving standard intermittent wiping in the 1st stalk position. 2: Rain sensor is faulty and needs replacing. I had to do this on my 2013 as mine reverted back to intermittent wiping instead of auto. If you have a fault code reader you may see a fault for the RLFS/RLHS depending on which variant you have. It's reasonably easy to swap if required, I bought one used from a VW Tiguan with same part number. Mine has the humidity sensor with the part number in the image below
  6. Absolutely cracking post, thanks for sharing the guide and pictures! Quite fancy having a go, may order a new trim tool set first, had one ages ago which was great but can't seem to find any of the tools now! I have that guide on my Dropbox so will pull that up, it's a good shout, especially with the order of the clips. I like the idea of testing it with a track before reassembling, to be honest my door is mostly rattle free, hopefully won't introduce any more in the process! Let us know how you get on with the boot, should be a doddle compared to the doors 👍
  7. Great thread revival from a 7yr old thread! But yes it will just continue where it left off.
  8. We did from mid 2014 but only in L and K trim if I recall correctly. As per this 2015 example. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202108116113358?atmobcid=soc3 Not sure many 1.8 TSI Octavia were actually sold here though, autotrader only returned 1! Seat Leon FR were sold in much greater numbers here with this drivetrain combination.
  9. Thanks for that, useful insight and i will definitely take a look at your thread Do you have a petrol or diesel? And did you have the factory deadening mat on the underside of the bonnet? I added that a few years ago and that seemed to make a nice difference from the engine area. My guess is that adding deadening sheets as well may not make that much difference, the TSI is fairly quiet anyway, at least when warmed up.
  10. Definitely do it in warmer weather if you can. Not only is it more pleasant to be out in for a few hours, I think the deadening material is a bit easier to work with too. Likewise thanks for your insight on the doors. Did you break any clips in the process or did you order any spares just in case? I've still got quite a few deadening sheets left, so unless I find a suitable Superb in the near future there's a good chance I may tackle the doors.
  11. Thanks for your comments, to be honest I tried it and no luck. I think the seat bench may have been out before prior to my ownership as it was definitely not as tight as it is now it has the new grommets in. Agree on the reduction of noise, makes the front seem noisier now so this may be my next plan of attack! On the subject of removing the old ones though... Absolute nightmare is how I can best describe it. Tried prizing them out using some old credit cards (couldn't find my trim tools) and no luck. Resorted to breaking them a bit and trying to pull them out, since they were being replaced anyway. On both sides I managed to drop the grommets into the hole, first one dropped directly below and was easy enough to pull back out with some long thin pliers. Second one fell into a section further across the car, out of reach of pliers and over a slight bump. Had to get creative and get a long screwdriver with some blue tack on the end to get the clip back underneath the hole.
  12. Boot floor definitely made a noticeable effect and I would recommend doing this if you haven't already done it. I've seen some people have deadened the sides of the boot too behind the carpets but this isn't something I've had a go at. Had a couple of trips out since doing the rear seat bench and it seems to be quieter which is good. I think it now emphasises the noise coming from the front of the car. I may tackle doors at some point as I think that will make a huge difference, just as you have found.
  13. Nothing like a slow burner... Nearly 3 years later I finally got around to tackling the rear seat bench. Only started at 6pm so was a bit of a rush job before it went dark, but hopefully this should improve things slightly. Had the materials from last time, so this was purely an hour or two of time. What I will say is it's much nicer doing this in summer than when I did the boot in winter last time! As per previous 1.8mm dodo deadening mats, doubled up in the area that slopes downwards from the centre seat on both sides as this bit sounded especially hollow when tapping it. Just got the seat bench to put back, need to figure out how to remove the 2 grommets as the front hooks don't stay in them. I have some new replacements, but didn't figure out how to remove the old ones before it went dark. If anyone has any tips here then I'm all ears
  14. Possibly, depending on condition, service history, price and more importantly what you are looking for in a car? Maybe need a bit more info.
  15. Kessy keys seem to get through batteries quickly but getting no warning is odd. Mine warned me this morning to replace the battery but kessy was still working fine. When it starts to get really low keyless entry usually stops working but it will still start the car. Never had a kessy key battery just die completely and unexpectedly.
  16. Expect the 190 to be slower (less power and torque) but better on fuel, also has the better 7 speed DSG too rather than the 6 speed. It will be fine fully loaded up for this size of car, just don't expect it to set your pants on fire. I'd expect the change was mostly economy/emissions related and the fact that the 220 eventually became 245 elsewhere in Skoda and VW group cars, which puts it too close to the 272/280 whilst leaving too big a gap between that variant and the 1.5 TSI. People swapping what would have been 2.0 diesel (150ps-190ish) purchases in the past, for petrol now, don't necessarily want 245ps. The bulk of Superb sales are under 200ps.
  17. In a similar boat, 8 year old MK3 VRS petrol and fancy something newer, sat in a MK4 VRS and a MK3 FL Superb Sportline and the Superb was a far nicer place to be. Better materials, better build, tried and tested tech which doesn't have issues. Some of the material in the MK4 Octavia feels very cheap, especially on the door cards and the full cloth seats. I wish you could get the 245 petrol in a Superb though, 190 doesn't seem enough and the 280s are over 40k list which puts them in the daft VED bracket without ticking any boxes (which imo the Superb does need). The MK4 VRS does at least have a very good standard spec and is decent value.
  18. Canton definitely does fare much better with higher bitrate audio and lower bitrate stuff can sound pretty naff.
  19. Another vote for Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 5. Great value, perform well, reasonably quiet. I don't think any tyre of the same size will produce a night and day difference to what you already have though.
  20. You need to remove the smaller cover from the housing, releasing clips either side of it with a thin tool. Then, you can slide the cover housing downwards towards the dashboard.
  21. Should just be able to copy all that to the SD card or usb stick to the root of whatever you are using
  22. .7z is a 7zip compressed file. You'll need to extract it's content first before attempting to do any update.
  23. Updated my MIB1 Columbus last week to ECE 21/22 and used it last week to route to somewhere about 30 miles away. Worked fine as usual.
  24. I think with the Octavia it's not a car that you fall head over heels with immediately. It's not a car that you swoon over but one which makes a lot of sense on paper and one which slots effortlessly into life. I think it's these qualities that you only begin to appreciate over time rather than in the beginning. Mine has gotten under my skin far more than any other car I've ever owned has. I've owned it longer than any other car and I've come close to changing it a couple of times now and bottled it. It's still more than enough for what I need, perfect for tip runs, family holidays, day to day driving and the occasional fun spirited drive. Add in reliability and cheap to run and what more could you want. Even the tech is still decent given its nearly 8.
  25. The new model year kit changes on the VRS look good to me. Skoda appear to be offering 0% on a 3yr PCP too. Adding rear view camera seems to suggest you lose virtual pedal. Is that a quirk of the configurator, seems odd.
