  1. As part of your agreement you will be given return standards. For my merc it includes things like minimum tread depth and quality of tyres fitted at time of release, detailed guidance on scratches, dents, internal condition of car etc. It is therefore easy to know whether to expect any final additnional charges. By and large these conditions are reasonable for the age and mileage of the vehicle. The charges can be high though, so always best to check it out before hand and if required get things fixed up before you hand it back. e.g. tyres from your local trye fitter will cost you a lot less than merc or whoever back charging you to fit them. hth Pete
  2. Thank you for the detail. As you appreciate the US is a whole different game and I agree it will be a proper can of worms to sort it out. For one I guess the mods in the US will need to acheive far more than they would over here? However... I think I understand that you are saying that there is no way that VWAG can 'fix' cars, whether by remapping or retro engineering changes, without significant detrimental effects on day to day running? My point is that if that is the case then VWAG must already know that. Assuming they do then what does the board choose to do? If I had one of these vehicles and it was proven to be compromised to the levels you expect then I would be in the queue for redress? It is that obvious isnt it? So why would they spend money producing something that will only result in improving our chances of getting redress? That seems most unlikely to me and was the process point I tried to make rather than challenging any technicalities. Thanks again for your input to this dicussion Pete
  3. I have one question. If what you are suggesting is true why on earth would VW spend money on 'fixes' that don't provide a comparable/acceptable data set? That would seem to me to be plain and straighforward stupidity. OK they have proven that they can be stupid but no reason to say they are doing so again. If, as again you suggest, it is clear to anyone with an ounce of intelligence that performance will suffer and that claims will result in full compensation then why dont VW see it that way? I just cannot see the corporate giant not having considered that fact in its recovery plan. So no walkover in my book. Does anyone on here know, based on technical data from VAG, exactly what the fixes are, why they are being done that way and what the predicted deviations will be pre and post mods or are we just second guessing?
  4. Thanks Nick, I have it specced on mine that's why I asked. I also thought it was just the 'spaceship' lights to keep my grandchildren amused-- honest Pete
  5. If it was a regulatory requirement to have that rear wiper it would not have been optional. The wing mirrors give a perfectly adeqaute rearward view. I think it looks as if has been stuck on as an afterthought. On the other hand the light clusters, mirrors and front screen wipers are all part of a pleasing, aerodynamic overall design. I bet the impressive Cd results were cars without that rear wiper. Dont mean to upset anyone; just my personal opinion. It will, however, be interesting to hear from owners how quickly that rear screen gets too mucky to see through . On my C class estate it takes only a few miles before the rear window is covered in road muck (When it is mucky weather outside ) Pete
  6. Thanks for the pics. Did you spec the LED package plus on your SEL? Pete
  7. Probably not but my dealer suggests that they get firmed up about 2 weeks before they build. That makes some sense from a production planning angle.
  8. Firstly let me say that I am not justifying or supporting what VAG have done here. At best very sloppy governance; at worst probably criminal. I don't doubt that people will feel totally justified in seeking redress but I am less certain about what if anything they will actually get. Guinea pigs with false ears is not the problem here; rabbits with different characteristics is. Question is though are those different characteristics see as significant when tested in law. That was my point in illustrating the single set of results from the US. We may have theories but who really knows until either a case is heard and /or all the facts, about what difference the mods will actually make, are in the public domain. As to resale values. They have never been guaranteed and yep there is bound to be some disturbance until the situation becomes clearer but I dont think it will linger long with VAG. To diesels maybe but that is likely to come from a shift in the politics of subsidies for diesels which are alreay on the horizon. See now there is another confusion for you to ponder. If the political view swings, resale of diesels is impacted. VAG says that is why you can't sell it for a price. Not because of the testing issue. Just saying as devils advocate Pete
  9. Pleased to help. The colour has much more depth than you pick up in pictures. Also has subtle tones depending on how the light hits it. Sometimes clearly a metallic green base; other times a bronzy effec. I was also worried that it would not suit the larger Superb but I think it looks fine. SWMBO had the casting vote and she has never got it wrong with all our previous cars. She chose a midnight purple Grand Vitara once. (Gulp) Never had so many admiring comments; it had such depth that it looked 'squash'. Showed every little scratch though and was a beggar to keep looking clean. At least you and I will be easily recognisable to all the other SIII owners on here!!
  10. Ah well, mine is 2.6% which explains why I thought it had gone up. Swings and roundabouts eh?
  11. @Sooty1444. Post #112 I am another jungle green maniac! Not on a 280 unfortunately but I did find these pics from a european blog that show a S111 in the real world. Hope you find them of interest Pete
  12. Not heard anything about getting my existing ring fenced deal amended but I did notice that the interest rate on the config has increased now the charges have been dropped. So depending on what you borrow on your pcp you will be paying something and maybe all the cost through the PCP. Maybe that was the hidden message from the salesman? Pete
  13. The actual figures in the video, as opposed to journo summary of less than one second are: 2011 model from 9.9 to 10.5 and mpg from 50 to 46 2015 model from 9.1 to 9.2 and mpg from 53 to 50 Lets, for the sake of discussion, assume these sort of results translate across the ranges. I can see a strong legal argument that these are not significant differences and would be within the variable results that apply to any published performance figures. It is also easy to demonstrate that most people wouldn't notice either of those accelaration differences. Would a petrol head really notice the 0.1 second difference unless track racing! As to fuel consumption. On a 10k annual mileage the difference in costs is 17 gallons of diesel a year for the 2011 model and 11.5 gallons a year on the 2015 model. This sort of data gives an interesting position for VW when considering claims for loss dont you think? i do realise there may be other aspects here with regard to power output/ misrepresentation etc but I am just trying to get a sense of proportion going here. Yeah VAG were very stupid for getting into this situation but some of the rhetoric floating around is very strange. Social outrage is usually exponentially greater than the final reality is all I would say. Also all branches of the law in the US are very different from the UK and Europe. The final settlements may well be very different on this side of the pond. There should be no doubt that VAG will have the very best legal eagles working for them in this situation. Pete
  14. The newer of the vehicles only lost 0.1 second. I doubt you would even notice unless someone told you.
  15. Copy of post I made in the Superb 3 forum. This looks like a whole different issue. It allows the catalyst to heat up more quickly than in normal driving. This is an allowed system in the testing regimes. The problem is simply that they appear not to have told the US authority that they are fitted and thus their approval to sell is not valid. Nothing to suggest 'cheating' technically in the same way that I understand the earlier problems. Quote from a US source “On the other hand, auxiliary emissions control devices on passenger vehicles are routinely added by carmakers but they are required by law to be disclosed as part of the process to receive the emissions certifications required the vehicle can be sold. Carmakers are allowed to use these devices under deals negotiated with regulators that provide for higher emissions in very specific circumstances.” Pete
  16. I felt the same when I first got into the showroom model SEL. However, when I had the demo for a few hours I fiddled as you did and found a very good position for me. There is a lot of adjustment and it is worth taking the time to fiddle with that and the steering wheel position. The other thing of course is that the seats are brand new. I always find they need to be broken in a bit. All my seats have become more comfortable as they and you adapt to the specific size and shape . I thought the alcantara was much more grippy though and I ddint like that so have gone for leather. They also felt softer than the alcantara but that is very subjective. Pete

  18. There, there ol' chap. A nice cup of Horlicks and a malted milk biscuit and you will be ready to face the rigours of satnav travel again tomorrow.
  19. What can you expect when the computer programmes are doing it. No morals or compassion at all Seriously my guess is just that. The production planning is constantly optimised using software programmes and will change based on latest orders/production achieved. You will be lucky if you get a solid production date much earlier than 2 weeks before. Equally you could be lucky and get a quick build or heaven forbid.....vice versa! Pete
  20. I found a US based article on the issue that includes some tests they carried out. Watch the video for an overview. They allege they know how the cheat works and have tested mpg and acceleration with and without the cheat. Who knows whether this is valid or not; I just thought it worth sharing. http://www.wired.com/2015/10/vw-diesel-cheat-mode-mpg-performance/ Quote from the video “To figure out precisely how “cheat mode” changed those numbers, Consumer Reports hacked its way into a 2015 Jetta TDI and 2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDI, tricking them into thinking they were being tested by the EPA, then put them on the track. According to CR, both cars added less than a second in the 0 to 60 mph time. The Jetta saw fuel economy drop from 53 to 50 mpg, and the Sportwagen went from 50 to 46 mpg. Fortunately for owners, those aren’t dramatic changes. But that’s unlikely to stop the lawsuits or potentially crippling penalties that are coming for VW.”
  21. There is an interesting response to a question raised on Honest John. This is the most straighforward answer I have seen (as a layman that is) to the matter. Any comments about the validity or accuracy of the response? You need to scroll down the page to see the question and then a little further for the answer, http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/askhj/answer/63797/vw-emissions-scandal
  22. Why do they need to change the injectors on the 1.6 engine? I can understand the software fix if it is just to defeat the defeat device but physical changes. I am sure there are some technics out there who could explain it in laymans terms; please??
  23. Good evening everyone. First post on here. I am eagerly awaiting an SE-L exec in Jungle Green/Beige interior. Diesel 150 DSG Hatchback. Yes I am sane and have seen a Jungle Green example beyond the showroom paint ball  Have an unconfirmed week 47 build at the moment but they do seem to be moving about a bit. Original date was week 1 2016. Ditching the prestige badges for this car. I have yet to read a poor review anywhere. Especial thanks to you all. Your input helped a lot on the decision to switch.
  24. Hello all. New to Skoda and found this forum very interesting and helpful in making my decision to ditch the prestige badges!! Looking forward to joining in soon. Have a Superb III on order. P.
