I did the same on my VW I assumed I had a sensor for some reason and enabled it. It just lit up all the time. When I had the bumper off I don't have the sensor. VW/skoda tight asses.

If you're sure it is pinking rather than something else only a good long hard run will clear it for a while. Do you do a lot of mainly short start stop journeys this is the main cause and if you drive like a granny or frugally it will just come back. The timing can cause pinking but if your car has an ecu all the timing is adjusted by that. What condition/colour were you spark plugs in..??

I had low compression on one pot turned out to be a gasket blown between two pots. Maybe a broken valve spring, altho this would not improve with a bit of oil. What is the condition of the spark plug ??

Do you think this mod stops the egr clogging (because thats the sludge build up soot exhaust and water vapour from crankcase). Or do you think it just reduces the build up.

I have had this mod on a 06 golf pd since noveber. But catch the vapour in a can and re-route the air back to the air intake pipe. I took is off today and got about a cup of water from it...I was gobsmacked by the amount in the small time frame.
