No I use a microfibre cloth and apply several thin coats the leather just soaks it up, then another clean dry microfibre to buff the leather after about 10/15 mins

4 years ago I enquired at Timpsons for a new fob for my MK1 Octy and they were the cheapest @ £80 for a direct copy in the end I bought a fob & virgin immob chip off eBay and with VagTacho read the immob PIN code then with VCDS cloned the key myself
