  1. If the ABS light came on without moving the car, there must be a permanent electrical fault somewhere on the ABS system. Either the ABS block itself, or one or more ABS sensors electrically faulty. You need a scan from VCDS to identify the problem/s.
  2. Yes, that's the one, it comes with a thicker steel blanking plate, so you can replace the baked bean can that you mentioned in your other thread LOL. If you get the EGR emulator, you have to remove the air pipe to the turbo ( just a jubilee type clamp ) so that you can access the EGR electrical plug, located down the back of the engine. You have to work by feel as it's virtually impossible to see it from above. Study the pictures of the EGR valve & you'll find it by feel ok. About a half hour job to fit. Best of luck.
  3. Blocking the EGR will get the engine running but the ECU will detect the non functioning EGR. This will put the engine into reduced performance ( limp home ) mode. Looks like you either need one of these :- 11. EGR Diagnostic Simulator Plate for VW Audi Skoda Seat 2.0 TDI CR Euro 5 | eBay which will disable the EGR but fool the ECU into thinking it's still working. It still allows the DPF to continue function 100%. Or you will need a new EGR fitting.
  4. As there should be virtually no particulates going through the EGR any more, I don't see why it wouldn't last the life of the engine. It does still have a moving flap, which no doubt will have plastic gears, so that might be the only thing that could wear out. 5. I'm pretty sure yours will an EA288 engine, where the EGR concept is completely different to the previous engines. EGR gas is taken after the DPF, so it will have virtually no particulates in it, which is what clogs up the EGR valve on previous engines.
  6. Here is a video from Youtube but don't know if it's the same as your engine. VOLKSWAGEN TDI INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL AND CLEANING| HOW TO ?? - YouTube If you can see/ hear escaping gas at tick over, it will be seriously leaking when on boost. Regarding the throttle valve, larger crud can be removed with screwdrivers. Then remaining crud removed with an old toothbrush, rag & brake/ carb cleaner. Also check inside the valve plastic cover, they sometimes start to fill with oil that has run down from the EGR, this will cause it to eventually fail.
  7. This one says it's for 1st gen engine. EGR valve block plate 2.0L TDi CR VW Seat Skoda Audi Stainless Steel 1st Gen CR | eBay Check it's correct for your engine code.
  8. If the brake pedal goes hard but then continues to sink to the floor, & there are no leaks in the system, the master cylinder seals must be leaking. That is on top of the other problems you have highlighted. Sounds like the whole braking system need an inspection & overhaul.
  9. It's probably either the gauge itself or the coolant temperature sender then. You will need either a test meter to check the coolant temperature sensor resistance, or VCDS/ other diagnostic tool to check.
  10. Does the heater give out plenty of heat after 4 or 5 miles from cold ?
  11. It will be water in the rear exhaust box from condensation. The water will evaporate during a long run, but build up again with short runs on a cold engine & with cold weather.
  12. The EGR is turned off by the ECU during DPF regen, so disabling the EGR won't affect the DPF at all.
  13. It's an expensive job, even more so on the 4x4. You might be interested in one of these, which can be fitted in half an hour or so. 11. EGR Diagnostic Simulator Plate for VW Audi Skoda Seat 2.0 TDI CR II Euro 5 | eBay You won't even have to worry about an Italian tune-up every week either.
  14. You can fit one of these in half an hour, EGR & problem eliminated. 11. EGR Diagnostic Simulator Plate for VW Audi Skoda Seat 2.0 TDI CR II Euro 5 | eBay
  15. It really doesn't matter where you blank it, it's just that where I mentioned, at the front of the block, its very accessible. The rest of the EGR pipework is at the back of the engine & difficult to access.
  16. Having the EGR mapped out means it will be closed 100% of the time. But when EGR's start to malfunction they often don't physically close fully & allow some EGR gas/ soot past. Fitting a blanking plate will be a fool proof way to stop any EGR gas/ soot entering the inlet via the EGR. I wouldn't want the DPF to get gutted, too much risk of failing the MOT. The DPF will function fine with the EGR removed.
  17. If the EGR is clogged up, it might not be shutting off 100%, this is when DPF problems start to occur. I am only guessing that is why. Yes, fitting a blanking plate before getting it mapped or fitting an emulator will result in limp home engine mode.
  18. Find the inlet manifold at the front of the engine. Just above the throttle valve you will find a silver pipe entering the inlet pipe. Trace the silver pipe back to the engine block, it's attached to the block with 2 bolts. Loosen the bolts & slip your blanking plate in. Retighten the bolts evenly to achieve a gas tight seal. That is the easiest place to fit it.
  19. I've only fitted one to the 2l engine, but think the 1.6 is pretty much the same. You just have to remove the intake trunking to the turbo, so that you can access the EGR electrical plug down the back of the engine. The whole job takes about half an hour, whereas changing the EGR is many hours work under the car. Then look forward to repeating the job 1 or 2 years down the line. Also bear in mind that all the while the EGR is malfunctioning, it is preventing the DPF from working efficiently. You don't want that blocking up.
  20. You've messaged me the code CAY engine, so you can add a simulator/ emulator as in the link above. The engine will put out more NOx with this fitted, but will still pass an MOT ok ( as NOx isn't tested at present ) & DPF will work ok. Otherwise the EGR will need replacing.
  21. When you say " wont start again " , did the engine turn over briskly & not start, or fail to turn over ? If it has stop/ start, 13v can be ok with the engine running.
  22. Fault code: P046C Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance. You need either a new EGR valve, quite expensive, or one of these :- EGR Valve Simulator / Repair 1.6 TDI - VW Audi Seat Skoda - CAYA CAYB CAYC CAYD | eBay Edit, Just noticed the cars year, need to check your engine code.
  23. This guy had them on eBay but now sold out. Emulator Sizer Valve EGR For Audi, Seat, Skoda, VW 2.0 Tdi 03G131501P | eBay May be message seller, see if he is getting more stock.
  24. The flashing glow plug is indicating a fault, really need a diagnostic scan to find out what is wrong. You could try jumping a wire direct from battery positive to the starter solenoid with the ignition on. It will force the starter to operate ( unless that is the problem ) & might just start the engine. ( Ensure the gearbox is in neutral first )
  25. As the battery has been disconnected, there will be several warnings up, which should go out once the car has been driven. Perhaps check all the main fuses , especially those at the front of the engine fuse box ( they can crack & look ok so check with a meter or test light ) as well as those inside it.
