Bike rack (3 bikes) Octavia 2019?
Having tried all the various options over the years across a few different cars I can honestly say that a tow bar rack is the best overall. Easier to get the bikes on and off, doesn't affect the fuel economy too much (the roof mounted guzzles a load of extra fuel) and they're very stable. You also have the advantage of a tow bar should you need to tow a trailer at any point etc.

Bluetooth connectivity
Nope. There is a base model that has no trip computer and no buttons on the wiper stalk. Hence why the OP also has manual climate control. So literally all you can do is reset the trip counter and set the time. That's it. It then as above just shows the outside temp. It can be retrofitted with new wiper stalk and coding though.

Bluetooth connectivity
Like I said before. My guess is he has a base model (S I think) which didn't come with a trip computer. I also thought they didn't come with remote locking either. Manual A/C and just front electric windows. Also no fogs etc.

Bluetooth connectivity
I don't think you have Bluetooth then. You need the full Maxidot display to access the phone module. I'm almost certain the pairing can't be done through the stereo.

Bluetooth connectivity
Then you must have the buttons on the wiper stalk if you have a trip computer. Does your display look like this: Or this:

Bluetooth connectivity
Yes but I'm trying to determine which instrument cluster you have. The Bluetooth pairing isn't done via the stereo. Did you watch the YouTube video I posted? If your screen is like that in the video then that's how you pair your phone. If you don't have that screen then your car doesn't have Bluetooth (and judging by the basic spec with no climate control I'd be very surprised it if did). But if you don't have any buttons on the wiper stalk then k assume you must have the very base spec Octavia that doesn't even have a trip computer or remote locking etc?

Bluetooth connectivity
Which screen do you have in the instrument cluster? The full Maxidot display? (Like the one in the video) You should be able to get into the menu with the buttons on the wiper stalk.

Bluetooth connectivity
Says bolero but the pairing procedure should be the same since the Bluetooth module is separate to the stereo: https://youtu.be/s_IV-rEfOgY

I think you have to pair your phone via the instrument cluster first. Long press the up or down button to get into the menu and select phone. There should be an option in there to manage phones.

automatic transmission
All automatic transmissions should have the fluid changed at some point. I have in my head that it's an Aisin Warner gearbox in the Fabia. Pretty sure they also recommend a change at some point.

VDU change
Yes it can be done. Depending which you have at the moment you can also upgrade to the Maxidot. You just need to find the correct part (pre-facelift or facelift, diesel or petrol etc). It can be a used cluster too. The immobiliser, programming and mileage can all be transferred over but requires specialist software (can't just be done with VCDS).

DSG remap?
The pedal box doesn't change anything other than it gives more accelerator input than you are pressing. So you press 50% and it send 75% etc. I'd save your money and not bother with a pedal box. With a DSG remap they can change the shift points in both D and S. The shifts can also be quickened slightly and they can also increase the hydraulic and clutch pressures to handle more power.

Columbus Navigation System 2012 - Maps not moving in real time
It's quite common for the GPS antenna to break inside the roof antenna. The easiest solution is to buy a cheap aerial that has the correct fakra connector and just put it under the dash (under the top storage box is a metal bar it can be placed on). The SD is only there for music on the Columbus. The maps are stored on an internal hard drive and are updated via a DVD. It's just a standard SD card and up to 32gb I believe. Look on eBay for map DVDs. Many have had success with them. You have to put the DVD in and it copies the new maps over onto the hard drive. There are some less official ways to acquire maps but they can't be discussed here.

Is my coolant temp normal?
As long as the coolant temp is being read correctly via VCDS (a max of 89c sounds spot on) and as long as the fans actually work (the fan relay etc is ok) then you shouldn't need to worry. And as long as the fans kick in when you turn the A/C on. The diesels run very cool anyway. You may even see the guage drop while idling and the heater is on and this is normal. Even my 1.4 TSI I've not actually had the fan kick on unless the A/C is running (although it has an uprated radiator apparently due to having a factory tow bar).

6 or 7 speed DSG?
I'd still maybe get it checked out. How many miles has it done? They can check the clutch thickness via diagnostics too. My oil and mechatronic were also both slightly under-filled although there were zero signs of any leaks.
-
6 or 7 speed DSG?
The 1.8 TSI definitely got the 7 speed gearbox. It does drive a bit different to the 6 speed since the clutches are basically like standard clutches whereas the 6 speed clutches are multi plate oil lubricated and so tend to slip more to smooth out drive uptake etc. It's funny how much false information floats around out there. Definitely not dry sump. Lol They actually have 2 oils in them. One for the gearbox (actually just standard manual gearbox oil) and one for the mechatronics (the green power steering/hydraulic fluid). It's possible yours needs the oil change but also possible it doesn't. Was a bit hit and miss! I just did a precautionary change on mine. Oil was fairly grotty and it's definitely driving super smooth (did before the change to be honest).

Follow me and coming home
The only way is to have a RLS wired properly into the car. The car has to be able to receive information from the sensor. I believe the cheap eBay auto light switches are basically a light switch with an external light sensor which just triggers the switch to turn on the headlights. As far as the car is concerned there is still a standard light switch fitted. Since again the proper auto light switch has an additional wire for the auto position and tells the car that auto is turned on which then uses the info from the RLS to determine when to turn the lights on.

Active cylinder management?
We had a 1.5 TSI ACT DSG Golf estate for a few days last year. 3 adults, a dog and the boot full of gear and it felt far from underpowered. Up and down hills with no problems even just taking it steady. And our 1.4 TSI DSG Octavia estate with just 122bhp/200nm still pulls really strong with 3 adults, dog, boot full and 3 bikes in the tow bar.

Retrofit reverse camera
Yes. Since I had to run the wires to the front any way (via the headlining) the it wasn't any more work and saved faffing about at the rear. I just happened to see the wire. It was connected to the same port as the video signal cable. It comes from the stereo and not the car (Chinese Android stereo). I measured it and it gave 12v when in reverse.

About to buy an Octavia MK3 1.6 TDI DSG.
One advantage the DQ200 has over DQ250 is the lack of a DMF. The DMF on the 6 speed is a given that it will fail at some point.

Retrofit reverse camera
So I got my camera fitted. But I ended up not using the relay and didn't have to tap into the reverse light or anything. I discovered a cable from the stereo that has +12v when reverse is engaged. Since I had to run the video wire to the front anyway then I fed a twin power cable too and used ground behind the stereo and used this +12v connection. Works perfectly, no interference and means the camera is only powered on in reverse.

Retrofit reverse camera
My camera has arrived. I've also decided to use a relay so I can use a clean feed from the wiper motor power but also not have the camera powered on all the time. Thanks for your tips. Hoping to give it a go at the weekend.

Is a 2013 1.4 TSi with a timing chain likely to destroy itself if the chain slips..?
Is this the 122bhp CAXA engine as used in the Octavia? The chain and tensioner was revised from I think 2010 or 2011 onwards. But this could differ on the Yeti I'm not sure.
