Superb 2019 2.0 TDI overheating
£1k seems a bit steep, genuine parts can be had for around £200 so that's a nice little earner for a couple of hours work but i guess its london so half expected. As for a mechanic saying he doesnt have the specialist tool required, £20 or so buys the specialist tool required so if he cant afford that, he's probably better avoided anyway. what kind of water pump are they fitting? original with shroud or aftermarket without, some people prefer shroudless as it removes the same thing happening again, however be prepared for longer heat up times

Time is running out to buy good repairable cars
It seams that older cars are in high demand and prices are up for good early 2000 - 2010 cars, people are getting pi$$ed off with unreliable modern cars and there high repair costs, Get yourself an old honda jazz, toyota corolla or rav while you can. You can get a whole car for the price of a modern dual clutch gearbox plus change back. The guy in this video knows what he's taking about

Lost Communication With NOx Sensor "B"
nox sensor b is the sensor at the rear sensor cost from skoda around £550 plus fitting cost on top cheaper to get it coded out and you can get it remapped at the same time, no more adblue filling costs either adblue systems are more problematic than dpf and egr valves imo

Gearbox in emergency mode
https://www.ecutesting.com/common-faults/volkswagen/dq381-mechatronic-causing-tiguan-dsg-gearbox-problems/ if you have a look at the above, it suggests that the problems are with earlier cars, so you would think that VAG have addressed the issues ? the 2nd link you posted about the improved dq381 is not from VAG though, but the above link suggests VAG have done something to fix things

Gearbox in emergency mode
most of the dq381 mechatronic failures seem to be on cars around the 2017/18 year or so if failures are not happening on newer cars, you would think VAG must no about it and replacement parts have been modified. they wont admit it though as no recall and owners are still having to part with there hard earned ££££

Kodiaq 2019 horn issue
normally the horn is wired via the bcm [ body control module / basically the bcm is a pcb which controls things. if you can, check the wiring diagram to confirm the horn is wired via the bcm as that is normally the way VAG do it. as with all intermittent faults though you will need to test things while the fault is actually happening ie look for a live feed or lack of a live feed to the horn from the bcm

should i change my oil in 200k DQ250?
might save you a bit over the skoda price but not gonna be as cheap as the diy route for me though, it's more about, if you do it diy, you know it's done right and with the correct parts any ££££ saved is an added bonus

should i change my oil in 200k DQ250?
£25 - £35 for a set of ramps and £70 for dsg oil/filter kit [ ebay, ] ramps are handy for future work anyway no need for vcds, easier to just drain and refill through filter housing, although can take 45 minutes or so to get all the oil in there, kit comes with 6 litres oil but you only need 4.5 litres, easy job not sure what skoda charge but i'd imagine it will be at least double the diy cost

storing second key
best to alternate keys, ie use key1 with a new battery for 1 year then use key2 for 1 year with a new battery the key not in use can sit with the year old battery in it just in case you need it and the key being used always gets a new battery this way you spread the wear on the expensive to replace keys
- NOX readings - do I replace sensor?
-
Water pump question
you would need to replace your pump with a modified pump which does'nt have the sliding shield [ non oem pump ] if your car has done 140000km it probably makes sense to replace the timing belt and pump anyway

Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI 150 DFGA engine - NOx Sensor fault
NOx sensor 1 is the front sensor near the engine , NOx sensor 2 is on the exhaust near the back of the car. if you get them coded out they will both be disconnected, you need to go to a remap /tuning specialist unless you want to replace the sensor
-
Thinking of changing, these are the things I love and will miss about the Superb...
EV running costs might well be cheaper but your 10 year old superb still has some value in it a 10 year old EV likely to be worth £0000 because the batteries are done and cost 70% of the cars cost to replace, so scrap yard time 😭

Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI 150 DFGA engine - NOx Sensor fault
it's likely the NOx sensor that needs replaced, they are expensive to buy the best option is to get it coded out, usually along with a remap it will save you buying adblue, so depending on the mileage you do, you might get a fair bit of the remap cost back but more importantly no more adblue problems 😀

Coolant loss issue 2.0 TDI 150PS

Recent safety recall 47u5 [heat protection mat]
thats exactly it, the inconvenience made even worse with the 2 local dealers being parks and arnold clark and there's no way my cars going in there 😂
-
Recent safety recall 47u5 [heat protection mat]
there's lots of cars out there that should have had recall checks but for various reasons it never gets done. for insurance purposes, the insurance company would need to prove that you actually knew about the recall and refused to have it checked. the letters that vag send out to owners are not sent recorded delivery with a signature required, so there is no proof that you actually got the letter and if you did'nt get a letter how would you no about any recall.
-
Recent safety recall 47u5 [heat protection mat]
i'm not gonna bother taking my car in to get checked as i've checked it myself i had a look at the crimped connection coming of the tank , which i believe is the problem on some cars and it's protected by the heat mat but it all looks a bit heath robinson to me it stinks of cost cutting to use tanks which are designed for manual cars , they could have at least used a proper blank end or cap your right about the access, i was going to put a bit of heat proof wrapping tape over the crimped connector just for extra protection but it was difficult to get in there so i did'nt bother.

MOT Advisories, thoughts?
is it expensive to get your car tested ? in the uk testing stations are told by the government that they cant charge any more than £54.85 for an mot test, so if they where only doing tests and no repairs they would end up working for a lot less plus they lose the mark up on parts etc
-
MOT Advisories, thoughts?
Was a lot easier back in the day for traders needing an mot £30 or so at the Barras market got you a blank mot and a guaranteed 1st time pass with no advisories 😇
-
MOT Advisories, thoughts?
My comment about checking things over before going for an mot was just a general comment, not aimed at you. When i got my last mot done , I was speaking to the tester who seemed a decent bloke . I asked him what where the things most cars fail on and he said tyres snd lights, which to me is crazy because visible things are easy to check beforehand. As for advisories, I just don't like the paper trail they leave, , so for me I always do my best to double check everything I can myself
-
MOT Advisories, thoughts?
I'm a diy type of guy , so car/ van always kept in good order so mot only /no repairs places suit me. I don't need someone to tell me my brake discs are corroded Nowadays with mot's you always want to check everything you can beforehand as any advisories you get are down in the cars history for life and the whole world can see them. Always amazes me how cars fail on something like tyres, or wipers etc ,ffs do they not check them before going , or maybe should have gone to specsavers

MOT Advisories, thoughts?
not sure about in england but up here in scotland local council mot places deal with the public as well as there own vans/cars. i take mine every year to the local council mot place, there's no incentive for them to fail you just for the sake of picking up work as they dont do repairs
-
MOT Advisories, thoughts?
yes ,some of the advisories listed are probably better done but it also looks to me like they are also looking for work as well i wonder if it was a mot's for £20 sort of place 😂 i'll bet if you took the car to the local council mot place who dont do repairs, the advisory list would be a lot shorter
