  1. phev's might well be part of the problem but pricing obviously is coming from the top ie VAG , then there's brexit and euro exchange rate before vag got involved, skoda dealers where attached to back street garages that done the repairs and sold the estelles etc, with no fancy showrooms to pay for. i can remember when the euro first came out, you could get a 1.9 tdi octavia from ireland for £9995 , the way things are going it will soon be £9995 for a service 😀 i wonder if audi dealers charge even more for service work etc
  2. better to just charge it given that you already have a charger , its only a few days so imo its not worth spending your hard earned £££
  3. i believe the recall is only for dsg cars i'm wondering why dsg and not manual, they both have master cylinders, the manual cars will have a connection off the reservoir for the clutch which the dsg doesnt have or need. otherwise they are both the same
  4. i got the recall letter from skoda about the heat protection mat possibly been fitted incorrectly. i've had a look at things under the bonnet and taken a few photos, All looks good to me, even after a long run there's no heat getting to the brake fluid reservoir , the protection shield on the manifold side and the shield on the reservoir side all look correctly fitted to me. so dont think i'll bother booking it in 😊
  5. yes , euro 6 diesel engines will regen at idle and the old way of taking the car for a blast up the motorway like you did in the past is not necessary and in most cases a waste of time. if the car is not ready to regen, then you cant force it to regen by going for a run at speed.
  6. yes there is always a way, the latest vehicles are different though, i changed the oil on my 2022 superb and used the you tube video method which changed it to fixed intervals although i do have obd11 and vcds so could have kept it on variable servicing
  7. what make of timing belt kit did you use ? and i know you said they gave you the wrong pump but could you not have gotten hold of a new pump just seems like a big mistake to me to refit the old pump which has done 168000 miles, as you say most of the work doing these timing belts is stripping all the bits to get access so i think i'd be wanting a new pump while i'm in there but each to there own did you already have that laser tool kit or did you have to go and buy it ? , just asking because you can get the chinese timing belt tool kits on ebay for around £25 or so like the one below
  8. it a bit strange that vw/skoda have different spec oils for the 150 tdi v 200 tdi, they are both evo engines as far as i'm aware my 150 tdi has a label in the engine bay which says vw 508/509 oil and thats what i used a few months back
  9. yes but my reply was not to the op but to dieselgate who said he used 507 oil in his evo engine , which may or may not be ok if it's not ok to use 507 oil, it's probably too late now though
  10. i believe 508 and 509 is the same oil spec because you cant buy 508 on its own or 509 on its own , all the oil tins say vw 508 / 509 you could be right that 508 is for petrol and 509 is for diesel though
  11. both the 150 and 200 tdi in the facelift superb from 2019/20 on are evo engines not sure about other skoda models like the karoq, but i'd take a guess that the superb was the first skoda model to get the evo engines and the 190 tdi's are not evo engines
  12. facelift superb onwards, so 2019/20 on lots of new bits in the engine, i've had vw tdi engines since they first came out and these new engines are the best yet, noticeably quieter and quicker the original tdi's always needed around 10,000 miles before they loosened off but that's not the case with the new evo engine regarding the oil, i done a diy old change a month or so ago in my 2022 superb tdi and i've just had a look at the oil spec i used and it was 0w -20 [vw 508] https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/press-kits/skoda-superb-press-kit/engines-premiere-of-the-first-evo-generation-diesel-engine/
  13. i hope you did'nt use vw 504/507 in the new evo engines, you are correct about it being 0w-30 but it must be vw 508 vw 507 oil comes in 0w -30 but it is not the right oil for the evo engines, not sure if it would cause any issues though
  14. https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/skoda-model/superb/superb-sportline/
  15. also standard wheels on sel v sportline is 18 v 19 inch , so 19 inch wheels plus 15mm lower = firmer ride but better handling sportline is more sporty for sure, i get lots of people complementing on how good the car looks, imo i dont think the sel would get the same attention
  16. i pretty sure the sportline sits 15mm lower
  17. if everything else is working ok and booking into a dealership is a problem, you should be able to reset the service and/or oil change interval yourself by pressing the right buttons on the steering wheel or dash google is your friend i could tell you how to do it for the superb but octavia maybe different
  18. i have the same tdi engine and same year car, registered april 2022, so a good comparision i've just done a diy oil and filter change 3 days agp at 9000 miles ; [ around 14500km ] oil level had dropped to close to the min level on the dipstick , i never had to top up over the 9000 miles done. i've had vw tdi engine cars since they first came out , [probably 30 years or so ago] and i find they can loose a little bit of oil when new but it then settles down to almost zero after you put a few miles on them. keep your eye on things, but you might find that things will settle down after a few more miles the one thing i have noticed with the latest new tdi evo engines, is that they feel lively right from new, previous tdi engines always needed to do around 8000 - 10000 miles before they loosened off but that is not the case with these new engines
  19. keyfob batteries can fail with no warning, only £1 for a new battery once a year
  20. modern diesel engines like the tdi only rev to 2500 rpm or so before the revs cut off they use to rev the engine to max 6 times during the mot test, but they obviously cant do this now, the only problem you might have is if in the future if the mot test gets stricter if manufacturers would make emissions equipment more reliable or lower cost to replace, most people would'nt need to gut / disconnect etc but they keep making them ever more complex, adblue systems on some engines are even more unreliable than dpf and egr valves but there's an easy fix for that 😄
  21. better to change at 1 year, even although not showing signs of needing changed i changed mine at 1 year and key fob was still working ok costco do a pack of 12 duracell 70% extra life , i think roughly £1 per battery
  22. maybe i'm just old skool, but i think if you asked most people , they would prefer metal to plastic for most things. As a heating engineer for the last 40 yrs or so, i see alot of boilers nowadays with plastic waterways / manifolds cracking etc, worcester bosch being one of the worst, it would'nt happen if they where still make out of brass but cost cutting seems to be the norm nowadays with everything.
  23. i would'nt worry about advisories, alot of garages use advisories as a means of picking up work 😄 next time get your mot done at a council run mot place, you rarely get advisories when you take your car to a council run mot place as they dont do repairs, says it all imo
  24. fair enough, just had a look at those plastic sump plugs and if vw using plastic sumps as well, it stinks of cost cutting to me, no doubt they will claim it all to do with weight savings but they aint fooling me been using ptfe on the metal threaded tdi engine sump plugs for as long as i can remember, i wonder if the tdi engine now has a plastic sump, i must have a look at my 2022 plate superb which is due for an oil change shortly
