  1. I should have mentioned that the five days of rest required to drop to 12.4 V are after a standard 35 km trip to the shopping centre, with start/stop disabled but with the last leg of the trip going uphill. Also, the permanent voltmeter consumes 8 mA on its own.
  2. All these electronics that shut down only to a standby level seem to drain quite a lot. KESSY, especially, is a relatively high load and that's why the passenger door handle shuts down by design after about three days of inactivity. Another problem is the fact that the alternator won't charge the battery to full unless it can do that last part without causing extra fuel consumption, i.e. on deceleration or while going downhill. I have a voltmeter connected permanently so that I can read the display through the closed driver's window. Turns out that after about five days of rest the voltage drops to 12.4, where sulfation starts to deteriorate the battery, so at that point I connect it to my external charger.
  3. Auto brake automatically converts to parking brake upon parking and back to auto brake again when the car is restarted. (Would a moderator please fix the recurring spelling error in my previous post? Thanks!)
  4. The green "shoe on break pedal" icon comes on when Auto break is on and the gear selector lever is on Neutral. That's to warn you that in Neutral the Auto break feature is temporarily disabled and you need to press the break pedal if you want to hold the car stationary.
  5. Do you get Skoda in Australia? Never heard John Cadogan mention this brand.

A bit of advice from someone who has gone through that same adaptation: - don't try to jump into fast-moving traffic gaps yet (you need to learn how to compensate for the turbo lag), - don't fret if DSG doesn't shift exactly when you manually would (meet the greenish driving style), - switch to Sport mode for overtaking and boldly smash the gas pedal. Enjoy your Karoq as I enjoy mine.

  10. On the inside of the battery cover on my KESSY keyfob, "CR2025" is engraved. That was also the button battery size originally installed in the factory.
  11. The transition from working state to dead in a disposable lithium battery (primary cell) is typically sharp and may easily take place entirely while the key is away from the car. In that case, no "battery low" warning is issued. With some battery brands, the above transition may be somewhat more gradual, giving the car system a better chance to detect the approaching battery death.
  12. The real point is that an AC line in the menu of an existing infotainment system is substantially cheaper than three physical commands.
  13. True. To assess the remaining operative life of a battery, the voltage must be measured with the battery under an appropriate load. Either using a dedicated battery tester or the particular testing mode that some multimeters offer. Not to be confused with the testing method for assessing the state of charge of the car's conventional lead-acid battery, which is done by measuring the battery voltage at no-load.

  15. That explains why on the homologation certificate for my 1.5 TSI 4x4 the approved wheel assemblies are listed as follows: (incomplete specs) 225/55 R17 97V ... 225/45 R19 92W ... 225/50 R18 95W ... 225/55 R17 97V ... 225/60 R16 98V ... ... ...
  16. I admit I did ponder over that. I decided I'd keep an eye on signs of incipient wear. On the other hand, a folded (otherwise well-protruding) mirror is less likely to get damaged in the car park. Disabling the function when parking at home seemed too much pain. Another - very personal - consideration is, that whenever I bought a spare part in advance, certain that it would be needed soon, that spare survived the main item.
  17. On my previous Octavia, I had the chirping enabled, as it wasn't illegal in Slovenia. On my present Karoq, the folding external mirrors are replacing that and more (can be re-checked from a distance).
  18. So I just did. With the driver's door open, the Lock command is ignored, either if given through the KESSY sensor or keyfob button.
  19. If any door is open when the "Lock!" command is issued, it will be locked when shut.
  20. Adding here a precious bit of info, found on another Karoq forum: "Starting the car with the key against the start button worked, but took several attempts while the alarm was sounding." (posted by Milfmog, on karoqforums.co.uk, Oct 12, 2021)

  22. I've heard that term too. I might approach that mod with more confidence knowing that it's a designed setting, rather than a bunch of parameter hacks.
  23. I often do, but from standstill the gain is pretty small on my car. Although in overtaking the difference is relevant.
  24. Of course, with manual shift you can rev the engine up to turbo-efficiency before engaging the clutch. Not so with DSG (unless you "launch").
