EA888 Gen3B - Tuning options for the 2.0 190PS TSI
I've been doing a little studying and I thought I'd give some additional information. The EA888 Gen3B is quite an interesting engine in that it has some very different fuelling characteristics, depending on what driving mode you're in. My headline finding is: ECO mode caps engine torque to 250Nm up to 5300rpm. (I think you can push past this if you absolutely floor the throttle.) Roughly speaking, that looks like this. That's a big old difference! Even in standard drive mode, you use the efficient B-cycle until you get to 3500rpm. So that's worth considering if you feel your 2.0TSI Gen3B isn't a sprightly as you would like: Are you actually inhibiting full power yourself? (I've used red text to more easily differentiate the VAG stuff and my text in this post.)

the truth about electric cars
Oof! Now there's an awkward question. 😄

Fuel additive yes/no?
I use Millers in our diesel Fiesta, but it's pre-DPF and I don't use it very often, TBH. I have found Millers to not cause any problems with pre-PDF Ford TDCI engines. (Mondeo and Fiesta.) Would I use it in a modern diesel? Probably not. I think I'd rather fill up with fancy fuel instead.

Where is the oil leak coming from?
This is the best course of action, IMO.

Points Of Interest removal
Is it possible to delete Points Of Interest individually that were previously added on an Amundsen unit?

the truth about electric cars
They are tying themselves in knots trying to get policy to fit in with the new "global boiling" narrative and the real world. 😄 (Apparently "global warming" wasn't scary enough.) https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/jul/27/scientists-july-world-hottest-month-record-climate-temperatures Life gets very complicated when you have to try and frame reality to fit your political agenda, instead of vice-versa. Good job this is a "crisis" that can be kicked down the road for 5 years.

Newbie Oil Question
Just tried the Opie website for my car out of curiosity, and they didn't link to the correct oil, but the online chat guy gave me a link to a list of suitable oils. Just bung your reg number in and off you go. 👍 https://www.opieoils.co.uk/

Best dash cam ideas
I use the Viofo 129 Pro Duo which I've hardwired in. It's okay, gives 4K front and 1080 rear, but if buying now, I think I'd go for the A229 Duo, which is 2K front and rear, which I think is a better choice. 4K is all well and good, but the file sizes are a bit large, which can make sharing footage a bit of a pain. I could set the footage to 2K front, but then that seems a bit daft to have spent extra on the 4K set-up and run it in 2K. Sadly, the hardwire kit is different for the A129 and A229, or I'd be tempted to buy the A229 and just swap the units while leaving my existing wiring untouched. Generally you can get by with something that records at 1080p and read out number plates as and when you have an event. Nothing's infallible, so the belt and braces approach of reading out number plates is worth taking, IMO.

I've just found this. What an outstanding guide! Thanks for sharing. I realise there may be some tech issues, but the clarity and effort you put into it was outstanding. 👌

PSA: Servicing / Maintenance Schedules & Prices
40K miles it is now for my car. Okay, it's what I was planning to do (at 8 years), but interesting that Skoda has come round to my way of thinking. 😄

vRS Engine Cover Recall
Excellent! Love the under-bonnet insulation, too.

PSA: Servicing / Maintenance Schedules & Prices
Does this depend on which DSG box is fitted? The DQ381 had longer service intervals than some of the other boxes. (My DSG, which is why I'm interested.) It used to be 8 years or 80K miles.

Don't think so, but can't be 100% sure. That's the beauty of OCD. It's the gift that keeps on giving. 😊

Is my Idle sound normal?
What's the oil level like in the car? Also this is probably worth a watch.

When it comes to OCD car concerns, you're in good company. Wain until you find out about the silica bag in your coolant reservoir. 😊

Running In Query
This is a good point that I completely overlooked. The 2.0TSI DSG cars will happily change up at quite low revs, which might not be ideal during running-in. I have no experience of the 220 engine, but the 190 engine is happy to try and pretend it's a diesel when it comes to low down grunt. 😊

Moderate your driving in line with the oil temp, if you can. Oil temp is not shown until the temperature hits 50C, and decent operating temperature is nearer 80C. Don't let the water temp fool you into thinking your engine is up to temperature. 👍

Helpp.....Skoda mk2 tyre size
Have a mooch about on here. https://www.tyrereviews.com/Search/Size/225-45-17 It's important to remember that different tyres can have quite different characteristics, on the same size wheel. Careful choice of replacement tyre may allow you to gain comfort without compromising other tyre characteristics you currently enjoy. That site helpfully rates the different characteristics to allow you to make an informed buying choice. There is likely to be some margin of error, but it's a good place to start. Bear in mind if you change your tyre width and profile, not only will you gain comfort, you will have to pay for that increased comfort by impacting other characteristics of the tyre. If the only problem you have with your tyres and car handling is comfort, you may eliminate that one problem and inadvertently introduce a new problem by changing wheel size and tyre width and profile.

Hello
Hi Bobby! I don't know about the ECO mode being set to remember it was in ECO. (It might be something you can do via VCDS, or there may be some widget you can buy to trick the system?) Worth asking your question in the appropriate Octavia MKIII or MKIV forum.

to have Skoda extended warranty or not?
Warranties give piece of mind. Sometimes they pay out to repair your car, and if you buy something fancy and unreliable, like a Range Rover with a lot of gadgets and gizmos on it, they can be a sound investment. But mainly, it's peace of mind. https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/190724ab-ac7d-4c6b-943a-c80462816d1c
