  1. It's a MK3 facelift, not a MK4 Octavia. Sorry, but someone had to say it.
  2. I think the issue is explained. You need to plug in and charge your car for best MPG, @mccririck.
  3. Just an addendum to this, but the DSG service intervals are 40K miles or 4 years & 80K miles or 8 years, whichever comes sooner.
  4. I thought the Octavia PHEV was not self-charging, and requires you to plug it in to recharge? You get regenerative braking, but AFAIK, it's not self-charging. In which case you basically have a very heavy 1.4 petrol Octavia if your battery is discharged. Can someone confirm or correct me?
  5. Hello. That's a great-looking car!
  6. It's funny you should say that, as so far, the MPG hasn't been much different, given the usual vagaries of day to day driving. This morning's 48.9mpg on the way to work was pretty good. I'm still highly sensitive to changes, so I need to just get on with it and forget about it, but so far, so good. I did some calculations, and for my car, assuming a long-term MPG of 42.4 for 97RON, so long as the 95RON stuff gives me 40MPG, there will be a small cash advantage to using 95RON, while there's a 10p/litre difference in price. By my reckoning, depending on the actual price of regular unleaded, a 10p premium for super-unleaded is only around 6% more than regular, so as long as the MPG difference is 6% or less, I'll be better off using regular. But if it's more than that, then I'll get better value from Super Unleaded. But as you said, @Rooted, the reality is far more complicated than my somewhat crude experiment is set up to unpick. That said, I think a rule of buying regular when the price difference is 10p/l or more, and super unleaded when it's less than 10p/l more expensive than regular will probably be my general rule, going forward.
  7. Glow plugs would seem to be the obvious culprit. Maybe there's some carbon on the glow plugs that needs burning off? Have you given it a good run up a hill with a car full of people? Get it good and hot and working hard for a bit.
  8. I imagine his mum being happy in one of these, but probably because I have quite happy memories of one.
  9. I think speed bumps are one of the causes of the surge in SUV sales. SUVs can happily bowl over quite nasty speed bumps. We have some very nasty ones on one of my commute routes, and I see SUVs blatting over them without a care in the world. I've been trying to work out what the next car trend will be, and I'm guessing it's futuristic-looking EVs. I never understood the SUV craze, or the MPV craze either. I'll take a hatchback that will fit me and my family and our luggage. If it needs to be an estate, so be it. My rules are that it has to be able to fit a washing machine (in box) in the boot, has enough oomph for overtaking safely, has a big engine, and is acceptably economical to run.
  10. Experiment time. The long-term MPG on my remapped car (reset upon remap) for time since the remap (only about 3700 miles), running exclusively on Super Unleaded since the remap (apart from the first tankfull, as I wanted the car mapped running regular unleaded, was 42.4mpg, according to the car. I'm now going to run it for a few months on regular unleaded. I've reset the long-term MPG and I'll see what sort of MPG the car returns. I'd tell you what my initial impressions are, but I don't think they're worth much as I'm sensitive to apparent differences just at the moment. What will be more important is when I forget that I've made the change, and the car behaves noticeably differently.
  11. These guys are excellent, however I felt they were expensive. https://www.vw-retrofit.co.uk/ A cheaper solution might to be replace the wife for one who does not require heated seats. 😋
  12. Have a look here. https://www.tyrereviews.com/
  13. What was the source for your new "Zimmerman" rotors?
  14. Hub-caps!? Nah, they're 'aerodynamically optimised plastic covers'.
  15. I want to completely agree, but presumably regenerative braking will reduce brake pad wear? Suspension, tyres, and EV shenanigans such as "Oooh! See this graph here? That tells you that this hot summer has cooked your battery, Love. I'm afraid it's going to need to be refurbished with our battery conditioning service, or else your range will drop to next to nothing, and you'll need a new battery because your car will be worthless with a dead battery, won't it?. We're very busy just now as this heat has damaged a lot of EV batteries, but I'll see if I can squeeze you in next week."
  16. Welcome to the buyer's remorse club! Make sure you haven't just got cold feet after committing yourself, but don't tie yourself to a car you don't like. What was the deciding buying decision for choosing the 1.0? Do you really have a problem with your 1.0 that the 1.5 will solve? How long is the decision window that allows you to return the car open for?
  17. Hello and welcome!
  18. I can see local councils providing a cable channel service in much the same way they will drop the kerb outside your house for a fee and if they agree to do it for you. Doesn't stop a variety of DIY ramps getting put up by people to get them up the kerb more easily, but a proper dropped kerb is handy.
  19. Bear in mind ECO mode may do more than just enable coasting, depending on your engine.
  20. Hello and welcome!
  21. I checked mine yesterday and it was remarkably clean. In fact the only evidence of soiling I could find on it were grubby paw prints left by the mechanic who fitted it. I removed it, tapped out any accumulated particles that it had trapped, vacuumed out the bottom of the air filter box (what a weird slatted set-up that is) and replaced it. Quick and easy job, and I don't know why something so cheap and quick would be omitted from a service plan. EDIT: Come to think of it, I probably need to add some more silicone spray to the torx bolt heads to ensure they don't rust.
  22. Could be a CR2025 or CR2032 battery. (20mm wide, 25mm thick or 32mm thick.) Open it up and see what you've got. It's not difficult to open the fob and you can then buy the battery you need. Personally, I'd replace it with whatever is inside at the moment, but if you want a long life battery, fitting a CR2032 would give you a longer battery life. Have a look at the 50 second video here and you'll see how to open it up.
  23. He takes a new approach to "drifting". 😋
