  1. A very good question! You can "nudge" people, you can BS people, and you can flat-out lie to people, but reality is the bane of idealists. https://archive.ph/k8Fgx
  2. (Bold emphasis in quote added by me.) In that case, you'll love the UK government's behavioural science unit. https://www.bi.team/ One man's "coaxing people's action" is another man's "propaganda". It can be benign, or it can be very damaging. I don't much like behavioural science. I'd rather the government was honest and straightforward, rather than sneaky and subversive.
  3. I'd like to see some data to back this up. I think there's a huge disconnect between the affluent middle-class who can uhm and ahh over which solar panel package they're going to install, and the majority of the population who don't have their savings measured in £10,000s. https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/personalandhouseholdfinances/incomeandwealth/bulletins/totalwealthingreatbritain/april2018tomarch2020 I can't help but notice the people who bang on about "social justice", "equity" and "diversity & inclusion", are very often the same people who want to force everyone in the country to align themselves with the luxury beliefs of those who have enough spare cash to virtue-signal about how environmentally-conscious they are.
  4. The government has a cunning plan to discourage people from buying ICE cars and encourage people to buy EVs. https://archive.ph/pfIOI
  5. Why not contact the previous owner and see if you can't find out what will fit that mount?
  6. This looks good to me, though I probably wouldn't bother with the HUD, depending on how configurable the HUD is. If it's just speed, I don't feel a need for that function.
  7. Agreed. Personally, I find opening and closing a tailgate easy. It takes me next to no time and is no more difficult to me than opening a car door to get in. But I'm 6'4" and in decent health, if not the first flush of youth. But an iced-up/misted-up windscreen is a PITA for me. (The demisting ability of the heated windscreen is underrated, IMO.) The prospect of defrosting a windscreen is far more bother than opening my tailgate, even if I don't have to do it very often. It seems a bit odd for every car to have a heated rear screen, but make heated front screens an option. I go forwards far more than I go backwards. But if I was elderly and frail, with lots of time on my hands, then I might regard an electric tailgate as a blessing, and a heated windscreen something I could manage without.
  8. The tailgate aid I most need is gas struts. The struts failed on my old Chevette, and I had to prop the rear hatch up with a bit of wood when opening it. It was heavy, and there was always the risk of the wood getting knocked aside and having the hatch door come slamming down on whoever was being clumsy putting stuff in the back of the car. But an electric boot opener? I'd have to try one for a bit to see whether it was one of those "must have" options. Having had a heated windscreen on my previous 3 cars, I miss it on my Octavia, but I manage without. To me, that's much more of a "must have" than an electric tailgate.
  9. Well hello front camera! This I like, assuming it is a front camera.
  10. Hello and welcome to you both!
  11. Thank you! I had no idea how the KESSY system worked. I just assumed your car was unlocked all the time until the key fob was out of range.
  12. Oh my! There's a blast from the past.
  13. Yeah, that's what I thought. I was wondering how @J.R. managed to wrangle the insurance company into the prospect of paying him to store their car.
  14. I might be showing my ignorance here. But are you saying, that even after the vehicle is considered a write-off, and a settlement figure for a total loss of the vehicle is paid by the insurer to the insured, the insured is still the legal owner of the vehicle?
  15. Hello and welcome, Adam! Nice profile avatar! 👌
  16. Bless you for taking the posts in the spirit they were intended, @Graham Butcher. 🤝 Now, crack on! There's much to do before you're back on the road in a suitable Superb. 😉
  17. Okay there are a few issues here to unpack. 1) Determine who is at fault for the accident. == Status: Resolved == The third party is at fault, no further action needed to determine an outcome. 2) Determine what the exact damage to your vehicle caused by the third party == Status: Unresolved == A full report detailing the extent of the damage is needed. 3) What is the cost of repairing the damage to your vehicle as a result of the third party's fault? == Status: Unresolved == A repair estimate detailing the cost of repairing the damage to your vehicle as a result of the third party's fault is needed. 4) What is the value of the vehicle if it was undamaged by the third party? == Status: Unresolved(?) == An accurate market value of the value of the vehicle prior to the accident is needed. 5) Determine if the vehicle can be repaired cost-effectively == Status: Unresolved == Cannot be determined until 2), 3) and 4) are resolved. 6) What is the settlement value offered by the third party? == Status: Unresolved == No settlement figure has been stated. I could go on, but these are the most pressing questions. I think it would be really helpful to try and fill in some of the big gaps in information when asking for advice on here, @Graham Butcher I'm seeing a lot of, understandable, moaning about being hard done by, but not much detail as to what you're actually complaining about. Yes, having an accident is unpleasant, even worse when it's though no fault of your own. Yes, dealing with insurers is a PITA. They want to take as much money from you as possible, and pay out as little as possible. You may be surprised to learn that this is not a new behaviour by insurance companies. Do make sure you are methodical in working out the best way forward to resolve this satisfactorily for you. Hopefully my list of issues/questions will help. If you can answer them on here, you may find people are able to advise further. 👍
  18. Ah! Then I'm confused. How is the car locked when you're in proximity with the key? I thought that was the point of keyless entry, that the car unlocks as you approach it. Bear with me as I don't have a vehicle with keyless entry, so I might not be understanding a feature of the system.
  19. I understand the reflexive reaction to reach for the jump leads as a solution, but...first you need to know why you have a flat battery. Is your can being regularly used? Is your battery being charged correctly by the car? Is the battery faulty? Jump leads will get you out of a tight corner, but it's worth making sure your car battery is healthy and the car is charging it correctly.
  20. Hope this helps. This is the lower part, and as you can see there is rubber attached to the glass at the sides and bottom. However the top rubber is a different bit of the door seal.
  21. I asked for my car not to be washed at the Skoda dealer, but I did take it to the garage clean. The independent I go to now probably wouldn't wash the car if I asked them too, though there is a hand car wash place just opposite them, so I expect they'd bung it over there and bill me their cost + a bit.
  22. Having sat and waited for an Extended Scope service at a Skoda dealer, I can tell you they did not conduct a road test. Maybe that was a one-off.
  23. I do like the EA888 engines with direct and MPI injection: Much less risk of gummed-up inlet valves.
  24. I think you should be involving them already Graham. You're clearly not getting the accurate market value of your car, and as car values are unusual at the moment, so insurers may be following a playbook that does not reflect the current state of the market. If you feel you're going to be at a loss as a result of this accident, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask the Ombudsman, "Can you have a look at this, please?".
